Need help on the door with the spikes. Have the key and the guard is dead. Got the fog to go away and have moved that column everywhere still can't get in. Help

I am totally new to this forum and don't even know if I'm putting this in the right place. I am playing Curse: The Eye of Isis and am having problems. I did get to the door mentioned, but there was no fog and I have no key; the guard was going to open the door and the spikes kill him. There is nothing to take from his body. I'm getting tired of walking around this **** museum and haven't even met the woman who wrote to me yet. For some ridiculous reason, there is no solution guide for this game. Can someone help?
