I was really psyched for Painkiller after watching all the previews, etc, and I'm sure it would be killer on my P4/FX5900. But, jeez, after reading the gamespot story and this forum, I have to say no thanks, to the PC version that is.
My solution is I'm going to wait for the XBOX version of this game. Sure, it uses a controller instead of mouse/keyboard, but at least it will run without crashing or making you uninstall half the programs on your PC :) I know it may be disappointing for some, but playing the game for XBOX is better than crippling your PC's software or buying a new CDROM drive just to run this single game.
Just a thought for the frustrated ones out there who have an XBOX, you might want to return the PC version and wait. Even if the game does get sorted for PC somehow, who would want to support such a controlling copy-protection scheme? This is hurting the paying users far more than it hurts any pirate.
