View Full Version : Is it *really* safedisc? or maybe bad installer?

I just bought the game yesterday. after putting in each disk until it worked to fix the disk 3 and disk 1 issues (which is from a poor installation script as it has nothing to do with the copy protection) I got game installed OK. After the install i started the game and got some error, checked the forum last night and followed info to turn off hide-cdr in clone cd (i just recently dl'd v4.3 which actually reads 'cloak-cdr'). after that, i re-launched the game it's worked fine ever since. I also own far cry and prince of persia...all work fine and from what i've gathered, all use safedisc. (i didn't have clonecd installed back then but have been able to play all 3 games with that setting unchecked.

so i'm a bit confused that the blame seems to be pointing all at safedisc when it works fine on other games. kinda like cops zeroing in on a suspect because they may not like them and not contine investigating with an open mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's _not_ the CP, i'm just saying given the very poorly written installer, and the fact other games that use safedisc seem to work, maybe it's DC, or the way they added the CP. there are quite a few of us that are able to play so maybe it's just certain configurations. has everyone sent in their .nfo's to DC? that can be a huge help in resolving (i had a past life in tech support)

One more thing that may help (i discovered with prince of persia that solved issue). My kids tried to install POP and it failed. now i have them in user mode, but when i logged in as admin was able to install POP OK.
