I've experienced Painkiller corrupting saved games, so that the game crashes to the desktop when trying to load these corrupted saves at a later time. If a save is corrupted, nothing can fix it--you may as well delete it.
Also, the game does not always save checkpoints successfully. It saves less than half of them.
This whole saved game problem is likely the most widespread bug out there, affecting all users.
