You need to note each compass reading around the balloon then enter them on the wheel in that order

So far I am now in front of the arch infront of the big black pod thingy. I am so close to finishing the game but for some weird reason, I cant get the key to work. The walkthroughs tell me that once I get off the trolley then I go along to the platform step up, turn to the left to the arch where the key should go, turn it and those metal plates should open and give me the code to get back to the ship I think. Anyway, in my game hannah has the key, I think, oblong silver thing? Is that the key? anyway, I have studied that darn arch and all over the area and cant find anything that responds to my mouse in terms of being able to put a key anywhere. I have scoured the metal rusted arch and see where it is indicated in the walkthrough but in my game it just looks like a big bolt and nothing happens when I try to click on it or the key. Also, I am not allowed to advance any further either. So I dont know what to do. I passed through every other test but this has me stumped. Is there anyone out there who can help me please???????
