Sorry Primal, but the AI issues have defeated me. I never experienced any of the technical issues I read on other people's posts (I started with the 1.2.5 patch) but the AI... oh the humanity...
Once the game reached the stage that the dwarf and centaur heroes couldn't easily kill the waves of attackers, it became too painful for me. Your troops are just too stupid and I am spending 85% of the game micromanaging those two heroes, with the small gap between them defeating one attack and setting for the next as the time I improve my base. I don't even think I am that far into it. They are only about level 13-15. If I don't micromanage them, the **** centaur stands next to the dwarf and gets slaughtered by the hammer's area effect.
Up until this point, I have really enjoyed the game. A few teething problems that a lack of a good tutorial or a -helpful- manual would have solved. Visually, the game is just gorgeous. Some innovative ideas and clever maps. The camera is nice and flexible, but does need some work. It tends to get "stuck" at ground level when you zoom over a hill, and that was truly a nightmare on the "ogre collecting" level in the airships.
But the troop pathfinding. Ye gods. I cannot see any way to give constructive criticism, as feedback for you, on it. Hopefully that sentence alone will suffice.
If you release an AI upgrade patch, I'll be head of the queue to download and reinstall. Until then, I'm going back to Spellforce (in which, after the Besieger camera, I am now constantly trying to zoom out or tilt the camera to see more. *sigh* I don't suppose anyone has a camera-hack for Spellforce?) for some more of the worlds worst English dialogue acting.. huzzah!
So close to a great game, so close...
