A well crafted game! along the lines of Diablo ?

There does not seem to de a 1st perosn mode. I know this is a long standing issue with games but is there a patch/ cheat/ hack/ setting that allows the game to be played in 1st person?

It seems such a shame, I have looked for a setting but have not found one yet.

The demo is very very very good except for this.

Please allow us 1st person gamers to enjoy your product too.

Thankyou.

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure given time, like you said, there will eventually be a hak or whatnot.

Someone probably will figure out how to make it 1st person perspective... But I think it's really going to work better in the third person.

What? No 'lol' ... I'm disappointed ;)

Seriously, no reason to bash a game that you know others here really like. I may not like Diablo, but respect that others do.

I also respect that some like a 1st person perspective for everything, although I find it hard to reconcile ... I couldn't understand it for the Jedi Knight games, either. I just like seeing choices around things.

I agree with a first person mode camera or at least an exploration mode key (just a key to hold down and look around) this game *could* be perfect.

They made a great looking world, sadly we will be forced to endure our fat backs in the front all the time.

its not about liking a certain game its just melee combat in first person isnt right and isnt fun compared to third person.

When playing in first person with weapons it feels like your swinging a baseball bat and you dont know if your gonna hit the person or not.

Third person is the best for melee weapons some ppl like it in first person but if you compare the two there really is no contest its like picture dungeon lords your doing those combat and spinning attacks and you can see them etc what if your forced in first person combat you see the sword swings and maybe the hands but not the person and it doesnt look as neat and jumping and doing backflips would also be boring because you cant see the character oding them its just like a invisble person doing them.

and i hate diablo too.

Vampire it all comes down to preferance. Some people prefer either 1st person or they prefer 3rd person or they adapt and enjoy both. I used to be a 1st person perspective only gamer and kept away from 3rd person games. Then I tried Heretic II and now I like both.

i've played TOO many 3rd person games that have atrocious cameras, haven't you? y'know?? when they go swinging wildly all over the place and no way to change it? i like seeing thru my character's eyes for the most part. makes me feel as tho i'm the one having the adventure.
but, if enough attention is paid to the game's controls, i like 3rd person. currently i'm playing WoW and loving it. great, intuitive camera controls for swooping around and watching myself fight or sleep. :p

anyway, based solely on the demo, i'm gonna enjoy DL's 3rd person play style.

That is true... many 3rd person games have dumb cameras. Like you say DL's 3rd person is done right, thank god. It was one of the first things I was worried about before we got the demo.

I prefer third person myself but don't mind 1st if it is an option :) In morrowwind (at least before patches and addons) it had both but its poor style forced it upon you, even for ranged combat. It was just so much harder to play third person than first. I got used to it, but I hated it being forced upon me or else struggle to kill anything....

I just can't imagine playing first person if they have third person done right, which DL does IMHO. You don't get to see as much around you and you vision becomes so limited, yes that is more realistic but hey I don't need to SEE something in real life to tell they are coming up behind me, but without surround sound and such I DO need to see them in game so... I hate spinning 360 degrees every few inches to see if I missed a button, lose brick, were the enemy that keeps hitting me is, etc on a wall... If a game is designed with 1st person in mind then it isn't as bad but I can't see playing DL that way...

OH and if my wife tried to play in 1st person....We'd need a waiste basket beside the computer....She doesn't like spinning in circles...

That is the whole thing - Morrowind, Arx Fatalis, most FPS games, are all designed with 1st person in mind. Ever try playing Elite Force II in 3rd person? You *can* enable it, but it is awful. Likewise, games like Gothic, JKII, Rune, Blade of Darkness, etc - incl Dungeon Lords - are designed with 3rd person in mind.

When you cross the design, you get unexpected results. I have no problem with a command-line switch or whatever to enable it, because that maximizes the appeal for little or no cost.

TES 4 Oblivion is first person and the combat in that is better then any third person, more fun more in depth more kinetic as they describe it....

This game could be fun in First person....

Generally speaking, I prefer playing 1st person perspective games. In fact, for the longest time, that's all I would buy.

Now, after playing a few games with a well done 3rd person perspective, I've come to appreciate them as well.

However, any game with a party system, or that horrid top down view, or the "distant" 3rd person view I've seen used in some games is automaticlly disregarded. (No disrespect intended to anyone who enjoys any of the above) :-)

The bottom line is that different people have different preferences. No one's preference is better than anyone elses. But by giving gamers the choice, developers help make their game appeal to a wider audience.
