View Full Version : Mouse Movement Delay

Just got Painkiller today and everything seemed fine (i.e., normal mouse movement) until starting the first level. When I moved the mouse, my view moved a good 0.5 seconds after I had moved it. By default, most of the graphics options were set to High. I changed them all down to Medium (not messing with the Advanced) and the mouse delay persisted.
Again, this doesn't happen in the menu.
Suggestions?

I figured out that it applies to keyboard movement, too. So if I press forward, say, I don't actually move for 0.5 seconds.
Graphic options do nothing. Great graphics, horrific graphics - the delay occurs under them all.
System specs:
Windows XP Pro
2.4 GHz P4
1 GB RAM
GeForce FX 5700 Ultra

try lowing your video settings and make sure all your drivers r up to date and defrag the hardrive, check for ad/spy ware, shut down programs in the task manager u don't need for the game run
what keyboard and mouse r u using

Any chance you both have analog joysticks/gamepads connected which are miscalibrated? Don't know if this affects Painkiller, but I had this problem with another game.

Hi,
i once have posted a possible solution for that in this "Forum". Thx DC for deleting many important posts...
www.pkeuro.com have a similar solution in their FAQs, maybe you want to try that:
(was the only way to help myself, lowering grafic settings and adjusting nvidia settings did not help me)

Thank you very much. Turning off prerendering via RivaTuner did the trick!

I've seen a few post with this problem and I'm also experiencing it. The Mouse also lags. I jhave a fairly powerful system 2.4Ghz Processor 1GB ram
128 MB Graphic Gard Nivia Gforce FX5200. Download all the lastest drivers and patches. Played around with all the settings in PK and also used RivaTuner tool to set the pre-render to 0 and also turning off the anti-aliasing. I shut down almost everything that's running that is not needed.
Anti virus, firewalls etc... I've done a scahdisk - I go a 200GB hdd and there **** load of free space. What the **** is wrong Unreal Tournament 2004, Medal of Honour, Starwars Battlefront Need for Speed Underground 2, Flatout etc.. (and yes I have taken out all gaming devices) They all play perfectly.
So is this just a poor quality product or what is wrong and can it be fixed ????

There is your problem, the GeForce FX 5200 is quite a bad card. I recommend you to get a better one.
In which levels does this happen anyways? The first level(cemetery) has the fog-ish effect on the ground of some sections which the 5200 cannot handle very well, thus making it lag and making the movement slow-ish.

Hi Thank for the reply - what doesn't make sense is that other top games play perfectly and the Demo versions 2 & 3 of PK also play fine. Sure maybe I could do with a better card but up until now it has been just fine. And if other are also having simular issues with "better" video cards then I can't help thinking it is the game and seen as it is the only one doing this. BTW what card would you suggest!

I never downloaded the demos. It depends on the levels they have, back when I had my FX 5200 I had solid fps in most levels with the exception of some like Cemetery and the Castle level were I had some dramatical perfomance drop.
BTW what card would you suggest!
After the FX 5200 I got an ATI Radeon 9800Pro and the game works perfectly.

eKaRi = What can't you figure out ?
Lugigibuddy = thanks for the recommendation.
Let throw this open - If anyone reading this would like to recommend a Graphics card please do and state your reason for your recommendation.
The Radeon 9800Pro looks good but I like some other opions before I make up my mind. I not only want a card that will be good for playing PK but other games like Doom3 Unreal tournament Need for Speed and future games - SO basically I want to replace my existing card but don't want to be stuck with the same problem I have now with a different game.
