well guys we knew this might happen and it did, when i first put my pre order in the price was 39$ few change. When i went in today to pay the rest to get ready for release they told me the price had changed to 49.99 but the release date stayed same.

well i didn't know about the first price, but i must admit i am relieved to see the new price still isn't that high, it's really actually the average price of most games..it means i can still afford both this game and guildwars without having to wait a month to buy this one:) i feel for those who may not be able to afford it, and i'll admit when i say afford, i mean barely afford..the earlier price was a bit cheap for a new game. i hope that everyone can still afford the game.

i just checked Best Buy's website, and it still list the price as $39.99..so if you aren't stuck because you preordered, shop around. Baltharius Altos, preordering can be a pain sometimes.

gogamer.com (only place i ever order) is still 34.99 plus shipping (1.99/5.99)

yes i know Preordering is a pain at times but i've been following this game ever since i found out about it and i had only put 10$ down at first but after playing the demo over and over even thow it has ALOT of flaws i loved it.

if the price change's again i'll pay the diffrence again if it dosn't woot for me i'll just walk in and pick it up either way i'm geting it hehe

as for when it's comeing out *20th still* if it still has major Flaws i could care less i'm haveing loads of fun with the demo as it is. only things i want fixed are the sound and the sliding up hills bug since i have found out HOW TO DUEL WIELD MEDIUM weapons in the demo and have picks to prove it ;) just can't post them *sigh*

hehe sorry for caps, anyway my chara is lev 15 with 10 light and Medium weapons and 10 light Medium off hand. but that has nothing to do with why people can't get it to work, turns out there's types that work best in off hand

Bladed Mace 3-6 damage Medium weapon works as off hand weapon
kinda low damage and i'm still trying to get a better one

Narserke

well i am sure anyone can dual weild medium weapons can't they, as long as they put at least three points in light dual wield..the problem is finding two medium weapons, but i am sure if you explore off in the woods you can eventually from a drop off a tough monster.

as for if they will make the reported release date, we will know if they will if the game goes gold between now and the end of the next weekend at least, because they still need to ship the game two days before the release date to get it to stores on time.

The price will be $39.99 - not $49.99.

Thanks.

34.99 plus shipping&handling.... plus waiting for it to arrive...
or
39.99 at Software Etc... same day it's released... no need to wait/wonder on the shipping

EBgames.com has it for 39.99 and free overnight shipping. That makes it similar to gogamer's deal.

the free overnight shipping sounds nice, but ebgames/gamestop charge me taxes, so forget that :)

besides, i paid for the cheap/slow shipping, so am not in THAT much of a hurry to start playing. my WoW emulator (or the 20 unfinished games next to me) will keep me entertained for a while :) about time i finished that armies of exigo...

well i am not going to preorder since as far as i know it doesn't get you anything special as with the guild wars preorder, so i will just wait and get it from best buy or media play, or walmart event..since the price will be all the same.

Every forum I go to I see people mentioning Guild Wars like it's the second coming of Christ. All the references I see are "Yeah X is cool and all but Guild Wars does that so much better, I think I'm just gonna wait for that". And now even a pre-order of the game is better than the pre-order for any other game... what gives? Did God Himself design the game with every feature that every gamer could ever possibly want?

...city/county's going to start charging taxes this upcoming year for my new house (i.e. mortgage payments up a few hundred bucks every month), we're having our first baby this september, wife wants trees and rose bushes in front of the new house, i need to finish the basement so the baby has a new room (me and my computer junk get to have a big office in the basement) and wife has her office upstairs, spare bedroom has to be changed to a baby room....

i'm going to be bleeding green for a while, so guess what, i'm going to be counting pennies for a while as well :)

Y'know, I live on the border between Massachusetts (5% sales tax) and New Hampshire (no sales tax), and we regularly shop in NH. Why not - if we can keep $5 in our pocket for every $100 we spend, the better for us.

That said, I'll go to my EBGames near work and pay $42 incl tax rather than going the long way to get home and stopping at EBGames in NH for $40.

I did a beta (not the weekend stuff, but a longer one) for GW last year. I wasn't impressed. The controls were awkward, PvP was essentially chickens running around with their heads cut off and the questing was too scripted and uninteresting. Just like WoW, which I also beta'd, I don't get it. They're pretty and all, but the core gameplay seemed rather dull. Maybe GW has been greatly improved since last year. Maybe GW and WoW just aren't my kind of game. *shrugs*

personally i love guild wars, at least all the weekend events over the last half year. but i'm not looking at it as an MMORPG (probably to the dislike of the publishers) but instead as a single player game with episodic content (via probable frequent expansions - but at MY timeframe for purchasing) as well as extremely easy on the fly multiplayer if you so choose (without having to quit singleplayer and join a new game in multiplayer which is the typical implementation).

i've been hoping for a game like that forever.

can you imagine playing along in Dungeon Lords and going into some Inn and deciding to join up with people to explore the woods beyond the gates? on the fly, wihtout having to quit out of one and into another. then when you're done and want to go back to soloing around, you go back to the inn, have a brew, seperate your ways, and the game continues for you in singleplayer mode, no loss/change in anything. THEN, a month or two later, HP releases additional dungeons/caves/island/etc to continue exploring, whether in singleplayer or on the fly multiplayer...

brilliant! (i see that english beer commercial with the 1 guy inventing stuff and the other just saying 'brilliant' all the time).

now don't get me wrong, i don't think guild wars is THE pinnacle of this, but its probably one of the greatest steps toward this since i personally can remember, hopefully further games will pick up on this trend (that not EVERYone is either singleplayer or multiplayer ONLY, nor that every game has to seperate the two so fervently) and figure out they can sell more games when they give people more options.

at least that's what >I< think, or the kinds of games i'd be developing if i had the power to do so.

@araczynski: Good point. I wasn't really looking at the big picture and was focused on the gameplay and mechanics. Maybe I should see if I can get in one of those weekend betas and give it another look with a fresh perspective.

Still, though, I found the infrastructure, for lack of a better word, uninspired. What I mean was that the quests seemed to lack any depth or nuance. It was "get on the rail, kill the scripted boss monster(s), get off the rail", if you know what I mean. And the setup for each quest seemed rather contrived. Another thing was how the towns were set up. They were basically just vendor stalls with pretty scenery. So prefunctory. Where's the variation? Where's the personality? WoW suffers from this as well. If the towns are really just supply depots, save me the trouble of running from vendor to vendor and just give me some menus. Look at what we know about DL: The first town you go in has problems and challenges specific to it. As an example, the Troll that breaks free. That's good stuff. Gives Fargrove a sense of place. Morrowind is another example. I can't get everything I want at every town. I have to learn where to find what my particular character needs. I need to learn something about the land I'm in. The towns have unique characters with unique stories that sometimes result in you getting quests that are actually interesting. How many NPC's in WoW have a variation of "blah blah blah, get me X number of Y animal part"? After you get you 5th or 6th quest like this, it's hard to care what the lead-in is anymore since it's just a weak variation on the same theme.

OK, back to work for me...

chamr: what you say has a lot of truth, but this game has the luxury/capability to focus on crafting a very nice story/game atmosphere with a lot of nuances because they have the option to control a lot of things when they let us play in singleplayer, whereas guildwars and the like has a lot of focus put on multiplayer, so i think its harder for them to add as much of the 'niceties'(?) of the singleplayer experience.

i wasn't trying to say that guild wars should be at all compared to dungeon lords or the like of morrowind, they're different styles of games obviously, even if they're all rpg's.

but all that aside, guild wars should be a fun play, ESPECIALLY because you can choose how to play at any given time (singleplayer/multiplayer/henchman aided) without having to end any play sessions to get into the other. the gorgeous graphics are also nice :) i will (personally) most certainly enjoy it MUCH MUCH more then the drivel that was D2.

apparently they did a major interface revision for this weekend's last beta weekend even, so something new to look forward to when i try it out again :).

i'm not saying everyone will like the game, that is never the case for ANY game, we all know that, but i do like the direction that the game is taking things in, for that alone, i wish them all the luck in the world in their venture, which others will hopefully pick up and improve a bit at a time...

as broadband becomes more prevelant, the game mechanic of on the fly/seamless SP/MP gaming should be much more prevelant, and i can't imagine that being anything but good :)

just the thought of a dungeon lords experience with episodic content/expansions and seamless SP/MP gaming makes me want to squeal like micheal jackson at a kids carnival :)

As you say, this aspect of GW certainly is enticing and represents a move forward. I'll try to find some time to check out the latest build, if I can...

Sales tax here = 15%. :(

Sales tax here = 15%. :(It has to do with the extra color (that's colour for you wrong-side driving types) in your play money ;)

But I was in EBGames, and saw Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was $55 ... that seems to be the new AAA standard - soak 'em for $55 for a few months, then the price plummets.

It wasn't that long ago that games had a shef life ... I remember how Jedi Knight II was at $49.99 for 15 months before it saw a drop ... and it was still selling - that was just three years ago. Demon Stone, just out in December, is already $19.99. Of course, it is crap, but that's besides the point ...

some of these prices they come up with are just pathetic. i don't know if i would bother playing splinter cell chaos theory even if i got it for free :) but that's more about game tastes then game prices.

but i did pay the 80 for half life 2 gold, plus 35 for a retail :) so i guess it all depends :) aside from that though i usually won't touch a game unless its under $40, even if i really want it, i'll wait it out.

Even if the price went up, EB and Gamestop at least use to honor the price you pre-ordered it at. However Hueristic deserves the extra 10 for their hard work!!!

true, but sadly their compensation has been determined long ago, i highly doubt they see a penny more whether any retailer charges 35 or 75 for anything.
