Stuck in Lab Under Big Glowing Tube

I am in the small room with the large glowing tube on top of two pylons (shortly after you start this level). There are four monsters still behind a wire cage. I see no exit from the room. I can't jump up on the pylons or the boxes and I can't kill the monsters because of the wire wall.

How do I get out of this room?

You've got to get some damage done to the guys in the cage before you can go on. Once one of them gets hurt a bit, the cage door will open and you can kill the rest. Then there's a ladder to go up over the cage area and continue the level.

You can move one of the exploding barrels over near the cage and blow it up to damage them, or use the flamethrower weapon through the cage. I don't think any of the other weapons will get through the cage to do any damage.

Oh yeah - if you're trying to get the Tarot card for the level, your only option is to use an exploding barrel. If you've already blow them all away, just reload from the last quick save and make sure to save at least one.

Well, You also can shoot some Heater-bombs (BoltGun's secondary fire) to the cages, and they will disappear (the bombs hurt the enemies inside too). But be careful with the bombs..they can hurt Daniel badly if they reach Him...

Indeed they can.


I did struggle on this part, and the second post pretty much settled it. It's odd, I shot them with shotgun, chaingun/rocketlauncher, even stakes and grenades, no luck. Seems only boltgun/heater's grenades can do it, unless I was just buggy.

Every time I've been there (all of twice, so far...), the cage door has been sorta hanging by one hinge, with a gap at the top. I jump thru the gap, and...

...I've always seen it as an explode the gate/fence thing, by pushing the barrel over by it, shooting it, and if that doesn't work, one heater blast opens it.
