View Full Version : Thinking old school and treasure...

... all the talk about this game being old school got me to thinking about the old PnP days (and I do mean OLD). You didn't have crates and barrells and pots and pans and whatever lying around with stuff in them. I think that's one of the legacies of D2 that I'd like to see die off. It's so hoky. And time consuming. And dull. I remember the thrill of getting to the end of some big fight or whatever and finding some real treasure. I know it's too late for DL, but I'd love to see it go in that direction. Perhaps the very, very rare occurence of a crate with something acutally in it. But for the most part bring back the excitement of finding a treasure chest or being rewarded for a big kill. As it is now in the post-D2 world with crates and chests everywhere, it's more at the excitement level of slot machines. Sure, every pull of the arm could bring something big, but it's kind of dull to just sit there and pull, pull, pull, pulll......

What do you guys think?

as with everything else, i would say give an option (slider) to dictate the frequency of drops and to an inverse degree the quality of those drops?

i like that idea a lot. some chests/barrels/shelves/etc. around containing mundane items is fine, but a big fat payoff makes tons of sense (after defeating a dragon, for example).

it also makes sense that you might discover a secret room or niche while crawling a dungeon, or come across a dusty room left over from a powerful mage who left in a hurry forgetting a tome on the old bookshelf in the corner.

onewolf, they already have that, as evidenced by the demon ring you found and the skeleton key.

The game itself already is like this.. just with the D2-like crates everwhere. Whilst there are a fair amount of chests lying around everywhere .. the really rewarding chests are harder to find. Also I believe its a large possibility that maybe chests are situated generously in the demo because its the first dungeon in the game, I imagine it will get harder to find them all in other dungeons in the full version.

as long as the boss chest, the chest that are guarded by one hoss monster or a larger army of something, drop stuff comparable to the monster guarding it, then i can live with a lot of chest.
