X-Play's Preview of Dungeon Lords

Last night X-Play previewed Dungeon Lords..this is a show with host that know what they are talking about, and have never given a review that wasn't honest, and didn't actually point out what was wrong or what was right. That's for those who don't know. I know I already posted this as a similar thread, but this time I found a link to the review. It's a text review, not the video from last night, but it's still overall positive. Take a look.

I sure hope this was a joke thread. Are you talking about thee X-Play. That show is a joke, and it gets worse every year. Adam is annoying as ****. And Morgan is attractive, but thats it. She can't act and knows very little about games.

Besides the reviews are mostly console and everything that sucks gets a 3/5 and every big name title that sucks gets a 4/5. They need a better numbering sytem.

ps the whole station sucks. Ever since it became G4TV from TechTv they have tried to become MTV. It doesn't work. Cool people don't sit around playing video games. They go out and act cool. Bring back Patrick and Leo.

Does anyone actually look forward to Arena? Besides one of the host is funny the show is stupid.

no, this thread wasn't a joke. If you find Adam annoying, well that's an opinion, most of the time I think he's funny. Morgan isn't just a pretty face, she and Adam know plenty about games, Morgan has been playing them since she was a little girl. She started playing so she could compete with her older brothers, and she just got good like everyone else who's played for as long as she has. This info is in her little bio on the xplay webpage. What leads you to believe she doesn't know what she's talking about? As for the rating, so far I've found it to be consistent, and accurate. Gothic 2 and Hordes of the Underdark both got 4 out of 5's, and neither of those were really big name games. I've never felt, based on their reviews, or my own experience with a game, that their reviews were biased at all. What game reviews don't you agree with? I have always felt that the reviews were well done, they point out the good and the bad, honestly. You see examples of what they are talking about right there.

However, I agree that as a network G4TV is not what it used to be. The merger was a bad idea, and it's ruined a lot of shows, most notably Screensavers which is now gone and basically turned into Attack of the Show, which from what I have seen is basically the same idea, except they don't take calls as much, and the calls they do take are asking for help. They still do a lot of the same stuff. I know from a blog that Dan posted after he was fired that changes were made and demanded that really hurt the show. I I also know, that at least on the surface Patrick left because he wife didn't want to move to LA, and he didn't want to commute. Don't really know why Leo left, probably didn't like the direction the show was going, but that's only speculation. Have no idea why Alex Albriect left.

Gothic 2 and Hordes of the Underdark both got 4 out of 5's
with that i don't agree. for me gothic 2 gets 6 of 5 stars

I only had TechTV for about 3 months before it changed to G4TechTV, in that time I watched every single episode of X-play that aired. IMO almost all of their reviews were objective and honest, indeed their jokes were pretty lame but I really enjoyed all of their reviews.

my only gothic two complaint, and i don't remember xplays reasons for not giving it a 5 out of 5, i think they had some minor graphical complaints dealing with clipping..but my complaints was that magic swords and weapons just were not magical..they simply had a name and did more damage...like stormbringer..uh..just did a lot of damage..didn't have extra magic damage or bring storms...i wanted to rain out my enemies so they had to plan their attacks for another day, then i would make it rain again and keep raining them out until they gave up;)

First Adam has admitted on TV that he hates RPG's... that's obviously going to influence his opinion of these games. It's like finding a car mechanic which refuses to get dirty.
Second... from what I remember... they would preview every SkateBoarding which was released! Not the best ones... every single one no matter how rare it was. Even if it was a TBS skate boarding game they would find it. The point... they were not reviewing popular games or ones which were selling well.... just their own personal interests.
Third... they would preview these wacked dating and dancing games from Japan! Apparently these are a big hit in Japan... but in the USA these are a joke except for a few young teenage girls. They even previewed this one japanese fish game where you'd take care of fish which had the face of humans! Yuck !
Fourth... The majority of games they would review were console games.... we would be lucky to see 4 mins of PCGames. It's bizarre 90% of this channel involves the internet, home computer(PC) and gadgets which work with your home computer(PC). Yet most of the game previews are console games.

To your point that Adam hates RPGs, he rarely if ever reviews them, Morgan always reviews the RPG,s but she does so honestly, and she's a big fan. They are both biased based on the reviews they do. I mean even though Morgan Webb loves rpg's, and while the preview was positive, she didn't give it "oh my freaking **** this is the best rpg ever in all the world times a million" type of review...also, they both loved KOTOR, even though as you pointed out Adam generally hates RPG's..but KOTOR 2 only got a 4 out of 5, they pointed out it's flaws honestly..becoming uber jedi by the end being one of them. So i don't think there is a problem with bias on there part.

Second, as to the reviewing of games that only they like, and Japanese games..well they review everything, I don't know how they select the games to review, I don't even think Adam and Morgan select the games to be reviewed, mostly I think the producer chooses. Usually though, while they give the Japanese games an honest review, I think they review them for the fun of it, to make fun of them, something like that.

I will admit that PC games are reviewed less often, far less often, then console games, and I don't have an answer as to why they would do that. Bias, maybe, they seem to play them more. Since some computer games require high end comptuers or different specs, that might somehow limit them in there ability to review computer games. While console games only require a console..but that's just a guess obviously. However, they usually review the a lot of the more common and popular computer games, and they've reviewed most of the computer games I've played, and I've found that I agree with their review, so I am fine with them.

I really wish they were here to argue your points about them instead of relying on me. They could speak for themselves better then I could.

Ok, firstly - like Narserke said, Adam rarely ever reviews the RPG's (although, even he can keep an objective opinion about a genre he hates as seen when he reviewed the MMORPG City of Hero's .. he also gave WoW a comment as "An RPG that even he can like" when previewing at E3 2004. Sometimes weighing the good/bad of an RPG came with a dual review where Adam states the bad and Morgan states the good as seen when they reviewed FFXI)

Secondly, and no offence when I say this, but everything else you said about them is absolute bull (except maybe about their lame-joke antics).. They reviewed tonnes of games all popular and non-popular, in fact I never saw any episode where they reviewed a skate-boarding game or a dating game, and I saw more PC reviews than Consoles. I've seen episodes where they reviewed specific genre's, best of e3, games with crates, worst games ever, games with 'hoes' .. and god knows what else.

Maybe you just saw 1 or a couple of episodes and made a premature judgement or maybe they improved after you'd had your fill of them but I honestly enjoyed all of their reviews and found most/all of them fair and un-biased, they always put things in perspective and stated everywhere a game went wrong and everywhere a game went right.
