View Full Version : Cyody's PK-Videos!
...a voice from the darkness.....
Well, a few weeks ago, Cyody (http://www.dreamcatchergames.com/forums/member.php?userid=64559) from Austria contacted me and He shared some of His nice PK-videos with me. He's a Member in the German-section of this Forum, however He said, He just wouldn't like to post into the English section, due to His English... What is not bad at all, I think! :) Therefore I would like to post His videos, because I think, they are impressive, and He deserves this. They are mainly Secret-videos, and they can be helpful for Others, and some of them just..hmm, stunning! Feel free to watch any of them, and have fun! The videos are small: usually around 1.5 MB, but the biggest is about 9 MB... Kudos go to Cyody for these awesome stuff! * thumbs up *

Great to see these up again and made available to a wider audience. Some of his clips contain stuff you haven't seen anywhere before, like his discoveries in the wall-climbing movie (yeah, it works!) or alternative ways to some of the secrets.
Thanks for hosting, I'm sure people will enjoy these.
Edit: It's off-topic, but I thought you'd like to know that I got answer from gamestar.hu. They apologized and promised to give me credit in their next issue...

There's some good stuff in those vids. I was impressed by the precision with which the secret in the Train Station was secured. Flipping that light must have taken an age to perfect. It was also gutting to see the ease with which the armour was got in Abandoned Factory - the one where the player runs up the side of the tank. I say gutting because I'd tried that method several times without success.
Top stuff.

Being sure I saw what I think I saw - he used the PK blades to help him climb up the wall?

Yes, it works. But only for those gates that close parts of the level as soon as new monsters spawn. There were some intense discussions in the German forums what might be the reason for it, but unfortunately all these threads are deleted now (DC syndrome).

...tried it Cyody's way tell me if the set of parallel vines he uses are less slippery than the one that goes diagonally between the two arches?
I seem to vaugely remember trying it the way he shows in #1A, but after falling down the first time or two with that method, I assumed it was just as slippery, so I gave up on that method, thinking it would be harder jumping up on not one but two vines, and at an angle. You really can't tell how slippery they are until you get on top of them though.
...a voice from the darkness.....
In the meantime, we're doing the earlier mentioned challenge with PK. I already finished it today, but Cyody is on "Ruins" now. LOL, He lost His patience, and that was very bad for poor Guardian-guy! :D Look what Cyody did with him, in His Guardian-video (http://tombraider.central-game.net/sys/painkiller/cyody/guardian.zip)... ;) It's also a good demonstration about how to kill the Guardian with no cards and "no scratch", but still under 1:20. I recommend it for those who try to get the "Iron Will" card there...
Frag, I only tried the newest method from Cyody, it's "forest_1". I have the same experiences with You: those lians are too slippery, I very often fall of, so I hate them very much. However Cyody's latest method is more or less safe at least: if You fall down while You're trying to climb up onto the first arch (what isn't easy, I know), You usually don't get hurt. But of course You still can get hurt when You're tring to go along the lian up there, from that arch to that what contains the Secret... To answer to Your question: hmm, actually the highest line is a bit easier, because it's not a diagonal line... But the lower..hmm, therefore I haven't tried that way yet (#1A-solution, as You called, if I understand You right), that must be very hard to stand on that lower lian...

...wall. If Thor hadn't gotten hung up on it like that, he may not have made it in time. BTW, I could not see the scoreboard well enough to read his time, do you know what it was? Also, did he tell you, or have you experimented yourself to see if Thor gets hung up walking towards that wall without striking every time like that, or does it rely heavily on luck?
I assume you have to be carefull to try and stay between or in front of his feet with that method too, I could hear a lot of bunnyhopping going on. That is a part of the map that's less cluttered with stones though, so the hopping's not bad there. I think I like that method best of all, it's pure genius really.
...a voice from the darkness.....
Yes indeed, it's possible, I also experienced this: if You can trick the Guardian very close to the "rock-wall" (anywhere), he will somehow "stuck" and will stay in one place for enough long time. It makes much easier to destroy his hammer...
Cyody's time was 01:11, You can find a picture in the ZIP too, what shows the whole Statistics... :)

Sometimes I wish I did, I am 1/4 German and had a full blooded German grandmother whom was one of my dearest relatives. Very sad was I when she died while I was young. She used to teach me a few words here and there, if she'd lived longer maybe I'd be fluent in the language. The translation software just doesn't do it justice unfortunately.

Besides English being the "universal" language, there is also music and slang, which seem to unite cultures more than any one language.;)

Esperanto was created in the hope of producing a common world language, one without any 'political' strings attached. It failed utterly. It IS still studied, in the same way other dead languages are studied.

I know only one single word in Esperanto: "dormi" means "sleeping"... :) Anyway, Hungarian is also one tough language, because it "operates" with many suffixes and cases, and other totally confusing things... :D I was learning German (and Russian for a year) too for years, when I was a child, and I think, it's not a hard langauge, but indeed it's harder than English. English is actually not a hard language, I think, and I like to speak it... :)
OK, enough of the OFFTOPIC from me now, I'm here to share a new video from Cyody in this topic too... It's about the 1st Secret in "Castle"... :)

...that video to complit. The poor guy is going stark raving mad over those secrets, and I'm worried he's going to burn out on the game entirely.
He has never asked about or suggested he might try cheats, so at this point anything would help. I don't know if I can offer him any more descriptions or screenshots to help him.
Ive been improvising a bit on the Docks crane jumps lately myself. The first jump to the two Holys on top of the crane I now do by hopping around the little area atop the crane you jump from in circles, much like the fire pits of Colloseum.
This method has allowed me to jump farther than ever before, and it's so easy to see and anticipate a good takeoff it practically assures only one attempt being needed.
The physics of the bunnyhop, the complexity of the armor, the many ways to descend, shortcut, battle, gib, and improvise in this game make it truly one of a kind. It'd be so pretty with Anna's art too, proof even one of the best game's can be improved upon.
...a voice from the darkness.....
Yes, I also posted the video on that topic. Complit already saw that, but He says, it doesn't help either. I'm afraid, He just doesn't understand the technique: You know, changing Daniel's trajectory while He's in mid air, for example. Since not only the "straight-forward jumps" what Daniel can do, but there are these special jumps, like at that Secret. Once He understands how Daniel jumps when He's moving the mouse while Daniel is in the air..then He'll make those jumps... Maybe that "trajectory-technique" is too weird? Because as we know, it's not possible for us humans, in real-life... :) So we still can control Daniel in mid-air, that's what Complite should understand or rather feel once, and then things will be much easier for Him...
Frag Maniac

...the frustrations, and all along the way never asking about cheats.
His last words seemed to indicate he might have been trying to jump from so close to the edge that he just fell, rather than jumped. I've done that before by mistake in some places, you know, where you get kind of a flat, or "dead" jump (no pun intended).
Anyway, I hope he gets it sorted out, I'd hate to see him lose his love for the game over it.

Sometimes you can try too hard. It took me many tries before I was 'comfortable' getting those secrets under the bridge.
I enjoyed the Guardian video too. Another high score!
...a voice from the darkness.....
Cyody uploaded two new video yesterday: they are about "Tower". He has almost finished our challenge (Trauma, no cards, 5-starring every levels), but He's still fighting with Alastor. The biggest problem is the last high fall, as we all know, and You must survive it, since You must collect the ammos and the armor down there... His first video shows that it's possible, if Daniel is enough healthy (however He missed one ammo somewhere, so He had to reload), and the second shows how good is Alastor in rock-climbing... :)

These vids are all of a sudden DLing very quickly and nicely for me, I don't know if Cyody's using a different method of linking them or what, it may be that they fixed my net connection prob, it was wavering for a while.
I finally got to see that Docks one you were talking about, very skilled indeed, but unfortunately it's not an easier way, the ledge is pretty simple to use.
I can't imaging climbing that crane beam so steep like that in Fraps, I tried it once in game without Fraps, and gave up.

Well, Cyody joined to me with finishing our challenge: He managed to beat Alastor with no cards and 5-starring Tower on Trauma. And although I promised that I'll record the "how to" (and I will), He already recorded a clip about His Alastor-fighting. It shows the main things: collecting everything, completing all the levels of the building and getting down there, onto the "ground floor"..ALIVE... :)

Holly molly, holly shi... That is possible? After seeing his videos in www.darkscorner.de i knew he was a hardcore gamer, but after seeing this...
My quote is that i find Cyody the best player in our forum (i don't consider Kalme, SYS or Frag to be lesser, but hes is just so attentive to detailing, and what i like the most, is his painstaking charisma. He plays definitely better than me, since he does notice such trifles on those you can hang on to make a frusty jump, he pays all his attention to such details, for those i would not have the eye to check on!
He is amazing!
I am graetly thanking him for the vids, since it inspires others and makes them strive!

Indeed: I remember, once Dark said that Cyody is a "PK-Scientist" (if I remember well), and that definitely wasn't random: those unique ways what He found so far..amazing, I have no idea about how can He find out these tricky/odd/unique ways, but these surely need thinking and many-many tryings too. He must be very creative and open-minded, that's sure..and tenacious enough to keep trying these ways for a very long time. :) And besides, He's still so modest, I know it... :)

Somehow i get the feeling that Cyody's spec's are the secret places. In fact that's what i like in PK most, not the monsters, not the graphics, not the story, even not the tarot cards, those are an unique founding in the history of first person games, but the secret places; though there are a lot of games in first person mode shooter those contain secret places, but just not like in PK, for PK's secrets make the game what it deserves - best 2004, i do believe that not only for the engine and the graphics. I am also a secret place maniac, like Frag is the maniac of making "frags in fraps", i guess..che che. And i swear: when it comes the time, i will show you some of the secrets in MY WAY, for i have not seen such ways in the forum.
Glad to be a part here.

artas, that is very nice from you, but that is not correct! since you are a new member in this forum you cannot know the facts!
there are so many people here which have awesome skills, like: kalme, sys, frag maniac, peti and much members more, that i must contradict you! these guys handle (play) the game almost perfectly! and i am - if we regard the skills - only an average player! i'm only good in grabbing some secrets....but that is only a small part of the game! a good player must be more complete.....but i'm still working on it ;) :)
I am also a secret place maniac

Because the default converting on those pictures those have been made by clicking F12 = bitmap type.
And what about Painkiller/Data/Models?
All of them are converted to HKE output, and i can not open it.

Some uploaders don't accept .bmp, and it's pretty unnecessarily large anyway. You can save your pictures as .jpg in Paint, if nothing else.
But you can do it faster with IrfanView, which is also a nice and fast picture viewing program.

Click File, Batch Conversion/Rename and you can convert a bunch of images at once.
As for posts, I have a lot of smaller ones. ;)

First to this movie - again a wonderful tactical fight by Cyody - I like the ways he goes...
and SYS: I see you know Nightwish ;) :) "Over The Hills And Far Away"....cool !!!
...a voice from the darkness.....
Well, I don't want to hijack Cyody's thread, so just a short OFF-trivia: I first heard Nightwish last year, while I was watching Varus' old Atrium on Nightmare (http://www.shuto.ch/users/adre/aGe/Varus/Pain/Atrium.htm) video (it shows basic tips and camp-spots for Beginners in FPS), what is sill a classic in my book. The clip contains my all time favourite song, "Ghost Love Score" from Nightwish. I was so impressed on that 10 minutes long mini-opera, and also about that how well it fits to Daniel's attitude and the Atrium's environment and situations, actually. So He must fight for seeing Catherine again, and He must stop the trouble around Him and all those monsters who want His blood and to bring Him down to H3ll. But He's strong, and He's doing it, since Their love still lives, and Daniel would do anything for His wife. He has Iron Will, literally. Especially the end of the video shows that to me (nice tough fight) - an awesome, tenacious human mortal, who's fighting against the dark on His own... :) Laugh at me, but I care of the storyline and Daniel's fate too, when we're talking about PK... :D A few weeks later I bought the "Once"-album from Nightwish, and I still listen and enjoy it, when I want... So thanks Varus: I know Nightwish and Their best song ever from Your old Atrium-video (BTW, the track called "The Siren" would fit very well to some nice actions in "The Palace")... ;)
Sorry again, for being OFF in this post... :) BTW, one last thought: that video was actually the first what impressed me to make my own PK-videos for giving something back to the Community and Varus too. And that's why I chose a Nightwish-song ("Wish I Had An Angel") for my Experience #1 video...
