I just bought this today and I have to say..
It may be the best game I've ever played. Anybody played it?
The graphics are insanely realistic!
It's a total must have.

Agreed, especially at $20 (VU website and EB Games). I played it when it came out for Xbox. It's an outstanding game (though not much shooting), both in graphics and gameplay. Even if you don't care for the Riddick movies, the game is a must play. All of the Riddick media fills in a different part of the Riddick story timeline. (Game) Escape From Butcher Bay precedes (movie) Pitch Black. Then (anime) Dark Fury, and finally (movie) Chronicles of Riddick.

Played the demo. Nice graphics and fun gameplay. I think the movement was a bit weird though.
Anyways, I'll be getting it soon

"Thumbs way up"
u should have read the thread i posted a while ago back in 2004,
complaining about how poor DoomIII was compared to a similar graphiced game as Riddick, have u noticed how much looking alike is going on ? but c how great the performance is in thisone? or atleast thats how it was for me,
on a card that couldnt run DoomIII on any higher resolution than 640x480.
but it perfectly ran Riddick on even 1024x768.
overall its one of the most unique games i have ever come across, its not a cheap work and thats what alot of game developing studios need to learn from it in my opinion.
great gameplay also, nice tactics to defeat enemies, the comments that come as his tone r pretty cool too, like the start of the game in the facility where he says,
"look around the corner to c what this pieca meat is up to " lol
did u like the atmosphere in butcher bay? get a shiv if u wanna live ;)

Yes I loved the atmosphere.
The Aquila Territory was brutal, one of the cells had a headless body staked to a wall.
Made me really want to kill Rust. And yes, Riddick's comments are really badarse.

The game was short but kicked major ***.

Thatīs odd, Riddick ran much worse on my system than Doom 3. You probably can run Riddick better because you use shader 1.1. I did that and it ran fine at 800 x 600. Doom 3 hitches alittle at 1024 x 768 for me at High quality.
Maybe itīs just a matter of system.
This game is one of my best experiences since System Shock 2.
But imo, no game will ever beat System Shock 2 gameplay-wise.

It runs almost flawlessly for me.
And in some places I think it looks better than Doom 3.

I think it looks always better than Doom 3. :D
Starbreeze is a modified Doom 3 engine. Offers more quality and better optimization, like beeing able to choose shaders. (I think Voodoo 3 can run Riddick by using shader 0.5...:p)
Doom 3 looks plastic imo. But Resurrection of Evil fixed that. (things still look plastic if you use the Flashlight tho, imo)
Other than that, Riddick as a must for every FPS player on the planet. :)

...they did save some money making it by not including a MP version.
Last time I played thru it I used a lot of pistol shots to the head, and found it great even from a fair distance.
That last time thru it I didn't realize the mega health machines you sit in boost you incrementally, in increasing amounts as you go, so I skipped the second one I came upon, thinking it wouldn't add any health, which made it a bit tougher at some parts of the game, but more challenging.
That battle suit you climb into is a bit reminiscent of the one in Red Faction, but the graphics are WAY better in Riddick.

And they're to be commended for that. Far too many developers waste their time tacking on an awkward multiplayer mode to what is otherwise a good single player game.

"Far too many developers waste their time tacking on an awkward multiplayer mode to what is otherwise a good single player game."
....and commented on that point several times to those working in, and shopping in the game stores I frequent.
Unfortunately, it would appear our words are often falling on deaf ears, as the developers are tempted more and more to play up the hype of online competition, because making a game with no bots and AI scripting is much easier and no doubt higher end profit because of the much smaller overhead.
Of course they always excuse it by saying "MP is so popular lately, who plays SP anymore, except for a few weeks after buying a game?" Well I say to them, be a bit more creative in making the SP part, and you won't find that's necessarily true. Then they always answer with the money thing, even game support techs on the phone have told me this.
Where it gets tricky is when they say advertising the MP helps sell the game, and selling more copies means more that can be offered in expansions or future installments of the SP as well. Fine if they stick to that thinking and don't let it lessen the quality or support of the SP comitment, but I don't see that happening in many cases.
What gets me is that many of the employees in the game stores I meet act like they wouldn't care if MP took over completely. They don't seem to see it as a risk to their retail business, then again, working in a game store isn't exactly your typical long term career position anyway.

This is SO true. Why do we HAVE to have umpteen different flavors of what basically come down to running around shooting your buddy in the back?
As far as Riddick goes, I played the demo, and yes, it's something to see! I just can't get past playing as Vin Diesel, tho - yeah, it's his company and all, but still...it kinda smacks of wanton self-promotion, or something.
