New Quake 4 Details!
We get the word on the story behind the PC's next huge shooter.
by Eric Biessman, Project Lead, Raven Software (http://pc.ign.com/email.html)
April 15, 2005 - Well folks, we know you've been waiting for new info on Quake 4 for quite some time now and thankfully we can finally help you out a bit. Activision sent out this little bit of information today about the back story that players can look forward to enjoying. Along with this blurb comes a screenshot as well showing off the warrior Strogg (think along the lines a Borg from Star Trek on speed). Check out the info and then click on the screen for a better view of a character many of you will undoubtedly become very familiar with!
Earth is under siege by an alien race. The Strogg are cybernetic warriors--a mechanical frame and decaying body parts stabilized by flesh consumed in a systematic annihilation of other species and civilizations. In a desperate attempt to survive a Strogg attack on Earth, an armada of Earth's finest warriors is sent to take the battle to the Strogg home planet. Earth's initial assault force is nearly annihilated immediately, but one marine manages to infiltrate the base, bring down their planetary defense systems, and kill the Strogg's collective brain and leader--the Makron. Earth assumed the destruction of the Makron would end it all, but it didn't.
That's where QUAKE II leaves off and QUAKE 4 begins.
The Strogg are quickly regrouping. However, with the Strogg's planetary defenses still destroyed, Earth's forces can deliver a full and final assault. This time, you're not alone. You are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, and part of Earth's next invasion wave. An army of soldiers are fighting with you and an arsenal of weapons and vehicles are at your disposal in this heroic and epic battle between worlds.

The main character is Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, and part of Earth’s next invasion wave against Strogg
Sending us a hi-res screenshot, Activision unveiled more details about the story behind Quake IV, the FPS with DOOM 3 engine in the works at Raven Software. If you remember Quake II, the Strogg are cybernetic warriors made by mechanical frame and decaying body parts stabilized by flesh consumed in a systematic annihilation of other species and civilizations. In Quake II, in a desperate attempt to survive a Strogg attack on Earth, humans sent an assault force to the Strogg home planet. Earth's initial assault force was nearly annihilated immediately, but one marine managed to infiltrate the base, bring down their planetary defense systems, and kill the Strogg's collective brain and leader: the Makron. Quake 4 will begin with a full and final assault of Earth's forces against Strogg’s planetary defenses. The direct sequel will consist of a combination of solo missions and battles, part of this military campaign against the Strogg homeworld. The missions will be both indoor and outdoor and we will control vehicules from time to time and will use weapons like blaster, machinegun, nailgun and shotgun.

as u noticed, the second part of each article is the same, but the first one that usually comes from the editors of each website, magazine, etc, differes.
but i thought wouldnt hurt to have it all collected in here.http://dreamcatcherinteractive.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif
