Hey RR...How you been bud? Thanks for the info...

Was in GameMecca forums chattin with SAL about SS2. He said he is beta testing it, but doesn't expect it to start until late summer. Think I'll hang around Croteam and GM forums and try to get in the test. Would be fun! From what I've read, they have been working alot on MP...they needed a better netcode.

Wish I could get my name back...wont let me join because it's in use...WTF...LOL Take care RichmanRush... ;) :D

Good to see ya Harley! Yea, the forums here got redone and some accounts had problems (mine did, took em a while to get it fixed).

I wouldn't mind getting in on the SS2 beta (put in a good word for me on mecca forums hehe). Me and my buddy have been playing co-op of the second encounter the past few nights, but the servers keep crashing on us. We've crashed 3 the past 2 nights LOL. Still fun though.

But as you can probably guess, not much happening on the PK front. Think I'm one of the few, if not the only, beta tester that still posts. Anywho, maybe I"ll make my way over to GM and chat with ya guys over there.

Dont know if a good word from ME will help you , RR...LOL

Just went back to visit GM myself and there big on SS-SE over there. I'm sure they could help you with any of your crash problems...sounds like PK beta sh*t...LOL

I have also been visiting your Q3 site RichmanRush...been thinkin about playing some Quake and see why you guys were crazy about it. Good to talk to you again bud...maybe i'll install SSSE too...

Looking forward to seeing it at E3!

I just picked up a copy of Computer Games Magazine with Serious Sam II on the cover. There is a 7 page story about the game with screenies.

The article starts with "Son of Sam, Shinier than Doom, Funnier than Half-Life, Trippier than Painkiller, and dryer than Far Cry. Croteam's take-no-prisoners grand mal shooter fires a supercharged cannonball straight between your cajones and out the top of your shredded pleasure center." Kelly Wand

Great story, well worth the $5.00 for the magazine.

i think bgaum meant the core gameplay itself, as developed in the game :)
not the game's "system requirements"

i dont know, thats what 'i' was talking about,
but other than that, i think my system can run it pretty smooth,
but i'll have to just wait and c,
serious sams usually r not so demanding to perform well in my experience,
this one might be different tho,

anyone knows if it uses the same engine?

CHFlagg,

what other new titles the magazine previews ?!
any chance u c a name "PainKiller 2" in there ?!:D

RichmanRush
05-15-2005, 02:12 AM
Croteam developed an all new engine (Serious Engine 2). I'm sure it's 'similar' much like all of idsoftware's engines are similar, and Unreal engines are similar.

But the first engine was pretty demanding for it's time, and I'm sure SE2 will be pretty rough as well.

[ThePact]
05-15-2005, 02:16 AM
well i hope it wont be as demanding as DOOM-III, because that sucked !
but UT's r really good and smooth in gameplay,
when SS1 came out,
i remember i had gotten this 16MB ATI and i was having so much fun :P

but since there r large areas invloved in SS games, then its likely to be demanding specially with toomany colors and effects being there in the basic gameplay.
hope they'll make it as convenient as they can :)

if shes not into games or computers,

u can pick some 'point & click' adventure ones for her,
she might like the extreme graphics tho,

but i guess then u'd need to make a HUGE sacrifice and play PK less than now :D

She's been into Neopets BIG time for about a year or so, to the point that, when she's w/me for the weekend, I have to drag her kicking and screaming off my machine so we can do something together (not REALLY, but you get the idea...). Her idea of gaming is her GameBoy.

She's trying to convince me to build a new machine for myself ('Dad, you oughta think about upgrading...') 'cause she thinks that, if this happens, she gets THIS machine.

Ha! Kids are great arn't they? My 5 year old son has seen me play PK (for about 30 secs), and he can't wait 'till he's older. I freaked - I thought, oh no!, what will he think? will he have nightmares - no! - he wants to use the rocket launcher soooooo bad... He has been playing Star Wars: Battlefront and he does pretty well too. He had tried and tried and tried to beat Geonosis (for those of you that know...), and when he did both of us were leaping up and down, arms in the air, shouting at the top of our voices.

My Firewall is open, the Game tryes to connect 2x & then sayed something like: Connection is closed. But when i look in the Serverlist, the same Server is still online (with 2 or more Players).

If its not a Bot, then its a PlayerCunterBug, like when im crashing from a PK-Server & try to join (after restarting the Game) again & see myself still on the Server.
Result: CD-Key is in use
After some Minutes the Server deletes my "Ghost" & i can join again.
I saw in the Giga-Forums that other People cant join to, so imo MP dont work & the 2. Player is a PlayerCunterBug.

Played the demo , this is funWell I just tried to play the demo, and the game runs like an absolute piece of SH!T on my system, which is plenty fast enough for it.

It specs an 1152x864 res, everything maxed, and even 2xx AA and 2x AF on the auto test, but there is more lag than most online gmaes I've played!

It probably is a result of them exaggerating about how extensively they've tested for compatability.

I do have an M-Audio sound card, but they're fairly common now, and it works with all the other games in my 50+ game collection. I disabled EAX just to make sure, as it doesn't hardware support it.

I did just reinstall my MB controler chipset drivers, but since doing so, my Doom 3 expansion actually seems to run smoother now, so I don't think it's my sys.

I even tried lowing all the settings pretty low, but still just as much lag.

The game really plays just as corny as the screenshots look IMO anyway, so it really doesn't bother me. I just hope it will uninstall without leaving crap behind that will screw up my PC.

The game runs not-so-smooth-yet-smooth in my PC . The game doesn't stutter even though there are lots of enemies in one tiny screen . What suprise me is their quick loading (I nearly dozed off while waiting for FEAR to load) . I still cross my fingers and wait eagerly as demos don't really reflect the full version .

The final game will be a piece of **** just like the demo. I canīt imagine that Croteam will use the cool animations, mindblowing graphics and environments in combo with bassy and awesome sound effects/music like the SS1 games had.

SS2 is nothing but a joke thatīs not even funny.
The quotes and some of Netricsaīs messages in SS1 were hilarious and I enjoyed them, but adding the humor to the enemies, descriptions for them, and just to everything in the game, killed it for me.

The game is fun. I haven't made it to the first boss yet, but it's still got that Sam feel, but it also reminds me of PK (so far). Huge levels, but they are sectioned off into smaller areas. I haven't come across the huge flat maps where you could run for miles, but I still have 95% of the game left to go probably. I also find it a little bit harder than the first/second encounters.

Quirky humor, fun secrets (though I'm missing a ton of em), nice engine and it's pretty scalable (I could run it at 1024, but chose 800x600 to keep a consistent 30+ fps). Currently running it on a xp 2200+, radeon 9800 pro 128M, 512M ram on everything low or off, shaders 1.1, AA/AF max'd. Again, I could play it at 1024, but it would dip down to the 15-20fps if the action or explosions were abundant. Over all though, I think it's worth the $30. I haven't tried it online as I'm waiting to get the "full" experience when I put my new computer together this weekend. And of course, Croteam still takes it shots at the competition in a fun and lighthearted way (one weapon is called the PayneKiller... another DNF joke... I'm sure there are more to be found).

I dig it.

Serious Sam 2 doesn't require a high graphics card, does it? It doesn't have Doom 3's requirements, does it? Cause if it does, I'm not going to get it. I never really considered getting it, and I haven't really looked at it either...
