Help me please!!! another newbie question

Have not gone very far into the game before I have run into a puzzle I cannot solve. I am in the catacombs, and have gotten to the room with the hellfire and the big scary brute who seems immune to all my weapons. I have not seen any way out so I am sure my only option is to knock him into the fire pit....am I correct in this? I admit I have tried but he dosnt seem to lose his balance and I have not been able to do so as of yet... gettin a bit frustrated!!
Hate to admit I am stuck this early in the game but sometimes a real guy has to ask directions....thanks

Catacombs Mini-Boss
Two ways to defeat this vampire
Way #1 -- Collect 66 souls right before you enter the fire-pit lair and blast him away in demon mode.
Way #2 -- Shoot the wooden boards that are covering the hole in the pentagram in the ceiling above the fire pit. This will reveal a source of light to which you must lead this vampire into to kill him.

WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!

So anyway, you need to do two things - I'll tell you how to do one, and hint at the other (I'm a jerk that way... :D). First, noticed the boards in the ceiling over the pit yet? Shoot them. This will allow sunlight in. Now, bear in mind that you're battling a Vamp - what might he not like?

I really just wanted to say this sounds very amusing:

...especially when you consider the levels are also called "maps", and you were first given "directions" by one of our female members.:p

Well, so much for us men always being able to find things.:rolleyes: I'm surprised the ladies are so willing to show us when we sometimes refuse to admit we need their help at it.;)
