Why can't PKGE work on my computer!!

Played all of the demos when they first came out. All of them worked perfect. I beat HL2 and Doom 3 on my computer without any visual problems. Both looked sweet!

Buy this game and it looks like complete a#*!!!! It doesn't run smooth at all!

I even bought the Gold Edition and it sucks royal gold!!!!

I have a:
HP Pav AMD 1800+
2 Ghz
1 GB DDR RAM
128 MB Radeon 9600xt

I get major slow down and the main menu and load screen has tiled boxes of textures instead of the cool graphics i remember from the demo. Most of the time the words are tiled textures. I have to guess where the Quit button is.

Any Suggestions?? Or do I have to wait for the Xbox edition???

Update your video card drivers. It fixes the "tiles instead of menu buttons/words" error.

Did it this morning. Drivers are all updated...

DirectX updated?
Run dxdiag.exe and run the tests.

Might have fixed it! Uninstalled and reinstalled it. This time I left everything at the default settings. Including the resolution. I always set my res for all of my games at 1280+1080 or 1600+1300. It is just a habit. This time I didn't even touch the default resolution which was at 1280+760, or whatever. And it works!!!

Your CPU is the weak link. An 1800 is not anything close to 2 Ghz. As you've already done, you'll need to reduce the video settings to get the game to run smoothly.

And your video card isn´t the best one for max settings either.
AMD 64 3000+ and above with 256 Mb Geforce 6800 series or X800 series should do the trick for max settings, even after 1.5 or 1.61. :)
