View Full Version : Sorry, having hosting problems...

...I'll have to delay my video submission. After trying YouSendIt as Luigibuddy recomended, I found the link in my email box would not rtransfer succesfully to the post here.

I've uploaded the vid to a Google video hosting account I opened, bu they have to "verify" them first.

I can see now why not many people make videos, besides the work itself being tricky and complex, the displaying of them is best done via your own website.

Hey Frag, looks like I managed to download it before it went off again. Like I said above- it looks fine. Cool!

...a glimpse of it, I think it's a better way to get that sucker, and it might just help those that have had big problems with it.

Anyways, it's probably better not to get a thread started touting a better way to do one of the toughest jumps in the game, then host the vid to it with a lousy site that only displays it for a week.

Hopefully Google will come thru better for me after they "verify" the video for others to view. They'll no doubt be wondering why all the fuss to host something you can't even make any money on.:D

Well, I'm amazed you managed to get it below 3MB. I took a video using Fraps once - the tower secret in City on Water - 12 seconds at 384MB! That was at 1024 though. It was like a dream where you're trying to run for your life, but the air is made of treacle ;)

...editing, 19.25 after. I did the other one I recorded in 21 seconds too, it shows me getting hung up a wee bit longer getting off that first balcony and onto the arched skybridge, but the jump on the balcony where you go around the corner was better and faster than the one you saw, as I did not turn around and hop onto the ledge of the balcony and back up to get a running start. I actually jumped from down in the balcony 1 hop forward staying down in it, then a hop from there clear out to the corner of the balcony railing, and straight to the secret balcony after taking just one hop at the alcove where the figurine is. If you'll notice I used the window ledges between it and the secret balcony in the vid you saw, as I kept losing momentum coming around the corner, I simply had a hard time duplicating that first video in that part of it.

The vid you saw is better as a tutorial though, because using those window ledges is easier, and makes more sense for showing as a "how to".

My fastest time without Fraps running was 18.5 seconds, but if you were to put the solid start of the one you saw, together with the ending of the other one, it'd probably total about that or less even with the Fraps running.

This method is doable in well under 20 seconds consistently once you get the hang of it.

...here's the other one, catch it quick if you can.

Two videos of a slight variation of the COW jump. I can't see anything on these links, but BloodBuster said he got one of them to work, so more power to ya if they work out.

...the slower start but faster finish?

Hey Blood, if you could, sample the links on the "New City On water video" thread I just submitted and tell me how they compare to these ones from YouSendIt.

I think I'll probably stick with putfile.com, the site I used for those links. You don't even have to register, no name, email, nothin'. They allow up to 2 MB image files (nearly twice as big as Image Shack), and 10 MB video files. They'll also keep them as long as they're viewed once every 6 months.

After hearing Kalme's advice on a few things, I may be able to juice as much as 3:20 into a 10 MB file, by going with the 512 x 384 res recording, half size video capture and 500 kbps sec settings in Fraps.

It'd look a little grainier than the one you saw, and be best viewed in a 320 pixel picture size, but hosting a video that size for free ain't bad at all. I first have to learn how to use the editing features of Fraps better though.

Another thing that's cool about putfile, is that you can select which pixel size you want to view it in (320, 480, 600, 800), so that means you can vary the size and quality of what you display, according to it's length and file size.

The quality in both is fine. The only difference between them appears to be that you don't seem to be able to save them from putfile.com

Frag, the videos are great! It seems You're just laughing on that Secret, what still cause problems for me... :D The links work fine, but I had to remove the single quotes from the link... And the hosting has been solved already - check Your PM... ;)

"It seems You're just laughing on that Secret, what still cause problems for me"

Sometimes is all about just finding a method that's simpler, even if only slightly so.

Hopefully I can spread that laughter to others that haven't been able to do this jump Sys. It's all about taking pleasure in "easing the Pain" for others as you have done yourself on many occaisions.

You can see the vids now via the "New City On Water video" thread I submitted. There's some links to a hosting site called putfile.com, Kalme told me about them, great site.

I won't be using YouSendIt anymore at all, as they only display them for a week, and Google's video hosting is a hurry-up-and-wait process while you await their email confirmation that your videos have passed their screening.

...a voice from the darkness.....

I'm glad about Your problems finally has been solved, Frag! :)

Yes, the video is amazing for me. I myself often use to choose the old and easily workable ways against these hazardous situations: my system is a bit poor for PK, I have only 384 MB SDRAM, and reloading the game takes ages for me. I could be more "virtuoso" with faster reloading times... :D

But anyway, I'm going to try that jump soon. Momently I'm playing on Nightmare, and I'm on "Castle", so I'm going to reach "City On Water" soon. And then I'll try Your method too. I also have tried some of Cyody's tricks, and I was success with some of them whilst I wasn't success with some other tricks. Sometimes it depends on luck, and practice makes perfect, therefore I used to force myself to try the new ways what I see in the newest videos from the Fans... BTW, it's great to reach some Secrets (where it's possible) in different ways for every single completion...

...community thing. You make use of them where you need to, then try to give back a little by contributing yourself.

It's also good to stay in tune as we do, and assess whether there's really a need for doing another video of a particular part of the game. As I told complit when asked if I could make a video of the castle secrets, I said I didn't think I could improve on the ones I'd seen from painkillerhell and you, even if I were set up to do them, which I wasn't of course at the time.

Now that I am, I'm hoping I can learn the right way how to make them well, and efficiently, I can't even get the sound to record yet.

I'm trying not to go at this too fast, so I can leave some time to look for the most affordable and easy to use software for it, without sacrificing video quality.
