I don't typically like their vids for tutorials, as they use difficult PK jumping methods, but they do have videos of some secrets that others don't.

I tried doing a Google search but found nothing, I'm trying to remember the name of the company that used that site, it was NWS videos/games or something, anyone know?

NWS is Not Work Safe...

A lot of people use that site as far as I know...

Yeah, i know, there use often very difficult ways to get to the secret areas and so on, but they got a video to every secret & that helps me (sometimes) more than some explaination or something.

Any1 knew a similar site, with good explainations and/or videos :) ?

When I type painkillerhell.com, no PK hell appears.
Did the new admins and mods here ruin PK hell too?

I guess people are still angry about losing all old threads... :)

Seriously, maybe it was too expensive. It's not only the costs for the domain, but the traffic, too! My Battle out of **** videos are ~100 MB altogether, and I'm burning > 50 GByte traffic each month. Painkillerhell had almost one GByte of videos and tons of screenshots. I wonder if some of you have an idea of how much it costs to provide such a free(!) service...

And about the admins thing: I'm glad to see someone is around these forums again, and I think most people share this opinion. Please don't go away :D

...the lack of their prescence, and sad to see them go, myself mostly for a lack of good referals to those needing help. I hope my Docks vids can make up for at least some of that loss.

I agree with Kal totally on the missplaced blame, both towards painkillerhell and DC. Webpages are very expensive to run, and time consuming to keep up on. In seeking free hosting for videos that realization is firmer in me than before. There are a lot of ads for starting your own free webpage, but you can't do something of the size of that sort free.

On that note, I'll echo that it's nice to finally have some more presence from DC here lately. Sadly though, they're still taking baby steps and need to step it up a bit. There's much more we could use help with other than peeking in once in a while to say hi and advertise the MP, without any support for the SP. It's barely more than lurking IMO.

The price for painkillerhell's site was 15$ a year. I now it's still a cost to provide without getting anything in return. My point of view is that the people who made the game has to provide these kind of service. Even if the price was 100$ a year this is nothing in compare to what the profit of making a sucsesfull game can be. Providing SDK would make it even more succesfull.
For me this game is brainless and rapid action with a lot off exploring, this is more that most games provide.

Yep, this game is the best.

As for the 'right' to a site, didn't painkillerhell.com specifically state that it was NOT officially affiliated with the game? I agree this is a great loss to the community, and it is a shame to see it go.

I have several of the brilliant videos saved on my PC (as I expect several thousand other people do too), and am quite prepared to email them to anyone who would like to make them available, assuming they can get permission from AtaRi to do so.

Don't blame the moderators. Their only job is to make sure the message board is a decent place, they lock threads, etc. But they have no control over the swear filter, forum look, blah blah.
On the other hand administrators pretty much are the ones with full control over the message board, they could easily change the forum look and disable the word filter if they wanted. Oh well. :/

Like BloodBuster said, the site was not officially related to the game. And again, it's not just the costs for the domain. If the site had anything near the visitors count of mine (and I bet it was more), then it would cost ~40 to 70 bucks a month of traffic around here (if you take a low price offer). Pretty much if you don't have a sponsor or something and pay this out of your own pocket "just for fun". Of course I don't know how that worked for AtaRi, just a guess here. Maybe someone should try to contact him. Anyone has an address?

Edit: I dropped him some lines, hopefully we'll get some answers soon...

:D

Hello everyone, glad to see that this forums is still up! I thought it had dissappeared for some reason!

Concerning PainkillerHell.Com, it will be back up very shortly. I own and operate the site and had let the domain expire, but am in the process of renewing it right at this moment. My family and I have been super busy with moving and other things and in turn had forgotten to renew the domain like a dummy. :D I apologize for leaving anyone hanging, I honestly didn't even know so many people checked out the site or cared honestly! I'm flattered! I can't believe after all this time and effort I *still* can't get listed as a community site on the official homepage! Cmon DC! ;)

I'm also thinking of a few things for the site:

#1 A forums. Would this even be neccessary? I thought I could provide yet another place to talk about the game and more specifically, address any issues or concerns folks had about the videos or the secrets at hand. It would be moderated to ensure it's not full of trolls.

#2 More videos! I am working on getting a copy of the expansion pack and making videos of this as well along with just some other things from the game. I know it's only $20 for the expansion, maybe even less so this shouldn't take long.

#3 User submitted videos? Does anyone have videos they need hosted? I have near infinite bandwidth and hosting space and can host others videos for them. We could have a whole gallery full of user submitted videos giving credit to the submitter of course. Maybe even a cool screenshots gallery as well where folks can submit those.

These were just ideas I was going to implement if I felt the site was still looked at by at least 3 people. It seems we have around 4 or 5 checking it out so perhaps I should get to work? :D I'm working on getting the site back up right now, thanks for the support from the community out there, and again I apologize for the trouble.

Your pal,

Andy "AtaRi." Goin

Hi!

Glad to hear that this is only a temporary thing and that painkillerhell will be back online soon. I'm not sure about the forums. It sure is a nice idea, but the forums available (here, pkeuro, cpl) already suffer from having not enough people that post, I don't know if another forum will have enough visitors... about the expansion pack videos... I compiled clips of all the secrets already on my page (http://www.kalme.de/booh -- reworked at the moment), not sure if you know about that. User submissions would be great, because a lot of people started to make their own videos and search for hosting opportunity at the moment.

Yeah, I agree about the forums. This place seems to be the most frequented. PPK's forums do not seem to be attracting much attention and PKEuro seems dedicated to multiplayer. Another forum may be overkill.

I'm very pleased that painkillerhell will eventually be back online - it helped me out enormously when I was initially playing the game.

...I'd been planning to anyway, and we have more screenshot submitters, mostly BloodBuster serving up hot stuff just about every day here now.

One request though, although I know it's hard to get sponsorship in using a good site for displaying your stuff, I have to say I was very apprehensive about seeking out your current PK material via that NWS site. It's pretty riddled with weird porn and stuff, hopefully there won't be too many ties with them, or risk of Spam on your new venture. Not a slam, just something I thought I'd throw out there for any others that may have stumbled upon it.

I'm really getting into the audio end of the movie clips lately, and am able to go beyond the built in mp3 tracks of the game now, with a wide variety of high quality WAV to mp3 conversions I'm doing.

Keep us posted on how your new location is coming along.;)

The problem with Painkiller is that it has a small community. I think that at the moment you should not bother with forums.

"The problem with Painkiller is that it has a small community. I think that at the moment you should not bother with forums."

...judge the size of the PK community by forums that don't offer what others do.

I think it would only be a risky venture in the sense of the age of the game, and the lack of forum support/advertising it has gotten. Many of the PK community have gone on to other games/forums because of this, that is not to say they wouldn't be enticed back if it were advertised well, especially if DC were to come out and say there is to be a future release of a PK 2, or even another expansion, maybe this time Daniel returning to fight against Eve's army of all new generals. (Hint hint:D )

It has a small community because of lame forums that are supposed to build a community.

Tech support is the most alive forum, cīmon!

The lack of advertising killed the game(this is why I doubt there will be a sequel). Shame on you, Dreamcatcher.

If you compile as WMV then is the sound in WMV like WMA. But anyway...if you have a sound or music it could be never better than the original you have. If you have the Golden Master record of it then you you can what you want. If you have a pure sound as basic in 12Kbit/s then you will never get it better with compiling in 192Kbit/s. The same procedure like for pictures or movies quality.
The resume of all? You can make all more worse... :D ;) but you can give your best on this :p ;) :D Keep it on...

...of the original tracks I'm talking about, it's other music all together, recorded from Mp3 Pro to WAV, then back to 192 kbps Mp3. I'm passionate about music, I know good sound when I hear it, and this stuff sounds good. Other than that, it's a matter of preferences for types of music. Others might not agree with my music selections, but so be it. The tracks within the game are OK, but most have heard them so many times over and over, I just thought I'd try something new.

BloodBuster

I liked the soundtracks in Docks video's you did. It took me a little while to realise that some of them were from other levels of the game - like Forest - which is cool. I never tire of the music - but then again I really like 'heavy rock' or whatever you want to call it - bass guitar bliss! It's what helps really make the game so good.

Oh Maniac, I was not talking about your choice of music, it's very well, I was talking about formats, codecs, compiler...
Let it me say so...if you make a digital picture and you save it with 50% jpeg you'll have a result. From this last picture isn't any way back to the original quality of the 1. picture.
If you have a mp3, make a wav, make a mp3 then you'll loose always more and more quality.

Frag Maniac

...Blood, the docks vids were done with nothing but PK/BOoH soundtracks taken from the game files. Some are not found in either PK or BOoH SP though, there is at least one MP track in there, and the track at the end is from the PK credits at the end of the game. The only ones that I think could have been done better are the ambient tracks chosen for the first two jumps to the secrets.

Varus, recording an mp3 stream in WAV, then converting to either mp3 or WMA is my only option because of the music source I have, and the fact that I do not collect and store music CDs. Also, my recording software will only record in WAV, and it's the only recorder I've found that records streams without having to stream through itself to do so.

My latest video clip was done by taking an mp3 Pro stream, recording it in WAV, then converting it to WMA at a 128 kbps rate. It is in my thread "New COW Balcony Secret video redone", and you can judge for yoursef the quality of sound.

I think there is an option to add or designate codecs for the Total Recoder program to use, to avoid the extra step of compressing, but right now I don't have it installed, as I found out it was locking up my Movie Maker program, and causing a lot of End Now messages when I tried to reboot. The program only causes this problem after I register it, the demo does not do this.

I have been anxiously awaiting tech support from the manufacturer, High Criteria, but any input meantime would be much appreciated Varus.;)

Hey Fragman, do you have the option to rent CD's? I don't know what you have available, but you could rent a music CD, use iTunes or whatever to import the tracks as mp3's then use them? You don't need a CD burner...
