I've been at it again, and this time I have the whole level done in videos. I added three segments in two parts to show the beginning of the level, and this time they've been made using only one pass through the audio/video compression process.
There are 10 segments in all, and 4 of them I managed to squeeze in under 10MB using a 768 kbps compression rate. The higher quality segments are Intro, Bridge Yard 1 & 2, and Finale 2.

There is a small piece of video missing from the spot right after coming back into the hallway from where I'm PK laser camping on the balcony. There were two double kills with the PK combo spinning blades shot, not just one. You can see the souls of the first two as I turn around to go pluck biker boy off the balcony across in the other building.
Oh well, I couldn't find the right clip or Fraps hesitated, it could be one of a number of things, but it's not a very big flaw. Enjoy;)

Holy PK, Frag!! I've just watched your Intro. I never knew you could do that!!!!! Like I said before, I really do need to stay in more. Your vids are great. They've given me new goals to reach... AND, the quality is fantastic. AND, as ever, the music is cool too.
Keep 'em coming

...I took about 3 or 4 takes of that segment just to get two double kills with the PK combo blades, and it only shows one of them, but being a noob at this, it could have been a much worse problem being as tired as I am, stayed up all night finishing it. The payoff is knowing that good peeps like you that help out and contribute yourself in other ways are pleased with it, even if it means just making your work day a little less stress watching it at lunch or something.;)

Hey! That's the spirit. Likewise, my screenshots in the Mods... thread are for everyone's enjoyment, and it's great when there's positive feedback.
I watch your vids, take my jaw out of my lap, then think 'wow, wish I could do that' then I think 'wow, I'd like a copy of the soundtrack too'. Could you post the titles of the music used, I would certainly like to get hold of that stuff, and a few more peeps would too I think
I went through Military Base last night recording stuff, but the majority of the 'best bits' were missed because 1. the time limit on the free version of Fraps, and 2. I was having such a good time I did not realise the recording had stopped, and forgot to press the hotkey to continue recording. Still, I'm gonna go through all the levels recording the 'action' scenes, then see if I can splice together an action compilation. Lots of BloodBusting!!!
Thanks again for the great vids, they really are very entertaining.

...that, and there's a lot of good stuff there.
OK, for the music, that's all Joe Satriani, some of it dating way back to 1987. If you've heard is older stuff, or seen a concert a while ago, you may not recognize him anymore, he did the Agassi thing and shaved his head, he might have those baldness genes I guess.
Anyway, here they are:
Intro:.........................................The Extremist, from The Extremist (1992)
Entrance 1 & 2............................Up In The Sky, from Crystal Planet (1998)
Balcony Escape..................Satch Boogie, from Surfing With The Alien (1987)
Stairs to Fountain/Fountain Courtyard........Crystal Planet, from Crystal Planet
Bridge Yard 1 & 2........................Raspberry Jam Delta-V, from Crystal Planet
Finale 1 & 2.....................Surfing With The Alien, from Surfing With The Alien
I'm considering using some Rush in my next videos, they have excellent power rock, and many good guitar segments and long stretches of instrumental parts, with a good beat and bass to it.
I'll not get started on anything else until I visualize something I think will look good and add a different perspective to the game. I like to try and keep it fresh, so I don't get burned out on it. I'm still holding out for a PK 2, as my sig indicates, and the videos are one way to help keep the game interesting for a while.;)
...a voice from the darkness.....
Thanks for the new stuff and the redesigned versions, Frag!
The Intro was enough shocking: You did an awesome work with the balconies. I surely will try this out next time... ;) The Entrance-1 was another PK-fun, and it was hilarious to see that HellBiker who stucked with his head into the wall, LOL! Also, the camp-spot at the end and the beginning of Entrance-2 is a must again... The re-released videos indeed have better quality both in visible and hearable aspects...
About the music-choice again... Just like Varus earlier, You also had given me something more with that. Varus introduced me Nightwish, and You introduced me Joe Satriani. I mentioned earlier that I'm totally new into the Rock-world, actually PainKiller was the very first introduction, since I was listening only Electronic Music for years (and I thought Rock never can touch me, and how wrong I was!). So, I'm just tasting this new world, and now Satriani is definitely another "stage" in this..his music totally affected me. It's hard to explain how I feel and what these extra plus things mean to me, You know, but megathanks for that (I think, that explains many things)... :)
You also mentioned Rush in one of Your PMs, so I'd be glad to hear them in one of Your next video-sets, why not? Indeed, these videos lengthen PK's "life" in us, and they also truly offers the game (just like good screenshots): You see, You've just presented some new things what I must try out in my next completion. It's amazing how this game supports the player's creativity and how these demonstration-videos impresses others (at least me), since they show the quality of playing... * thumbs up *

...but in experimenting with some new ways to play it, I knew I had some ideas worth recording. I had to lower my res to 1024 just to make that jump up to the window ledge in Intro though. It took several takes, and I nearly nailed it in straight hops right up to it a few times, but finally got it recoreded with that slip, then back up shot, which shows it can be done even in Fraps from a bad start. When I do it without Fraps, it's not too bad really.
I also managed to hop all the way around that building clockwise a couple times, on the lower ledges in the alleyway between the two buildings, then around to the area with the cone peaks across from the balcony secret. The hardest part is getting up momentum with your hops along the ledge, and hitting the last corner spot just before hopping to that area across the water gap. You can hop into a little dark balcony area just before where you need to make the gap jump though, to save.
I may do two more videos on COW, that one I just described, as it's another way to get to that area without triggering monsters besides the balcony secret way, and a little humorous clip I've been thinking about for the tower jump pad, although I don't know if my idea for that will work.
The only problem with hopping around the ledges to that area, is you don't get the holy item on the balcony that way, it's just a different route for fun. For those that have the skill to do the 3 cones jump to the balcony though, it would add some interesting element to their gameplay.
On the music, I think you'll like Rush too, I'll get a list of recommendations going for their stuff too, once I'm done with the Satriani list.;)

Instead of making a new thread for every video shouldn't you keep them all in one thread? Something like "Frag Maniac's Video collection".

...category just for video archives from anyone that submits them, but just as a reference point, not a single thread to post them in.
Videos are the best way to show tutorials on jumps and gaming methods, besides just being fun to watch sometimes, they deserve their own category IMO, just like General, OT, Technical, Creative Corner, etc.
The problem with using just one thread is that the thread can get bumped to the bottom fast if lots of other threads are made from people asking questions and such, so some of those that view the board from across the world, may not see it when they log on. This thread is a good example of that, just look at how few replies/views it got compared to my others, yet it's one of my best video sets. Some people probably didn't even know it was better quality and contained more than the first COW set I did, because it got bumped down so fast.
Keeping the video threads coming regularly is part of what keeps interest in the game going, and each video has it's own characteristics and story behind it, so they should be separated when shown, but archived together somewhere too I think, so finding them can be easier for those that have been away for a while.

As always, I would suggest you use them as a last resort, unless you absolutely detest searching for things, and figuring out jump tactics. Finding them and getting to them on your own can be quite exhilerating, and it's not as hard as you might think.
As for PK2, Worth Playing (worthplaying.com), had an article on it.
