Was curious of what people playing Guild Wars impression of the game so far is?

Does it seem to be a half decent game, fun, and enjoyable?

Give us your input.

I've played the game completely singleplayer so far, i.e. no grouping with anyone, haven't tried grouping with henchmen in retail yet, haven't needed to. its an enjoyable game, no pressures, quiet, relaxing, can go around exploring, beautiful scenery, some of the best (if not THE best) in any game i've ever played.

overall though i have a slightly 'barren' feeling about the world, maybe its just the starting area that i'm in, i'm only lvl7.

quests are nice and varied, travel is relatively painless.

my only real complaint, is having to look at all the stupid kids breakdancing, "lol"ing, and being general prepubescent kids acting like you would expect them to act when mommy's not around <sigh>, everytime i find a reason to get back to a city/hub (where you can interact with other players). but at least i can turn off all the chat channels and mute them all :)

the pvp (when i tried it out long time ago in beta) was 'ok' nothing spectacular. i suspect a lot of D2 will be giving this a try though, for the PvP part.

the main reason i got it was due to being able to play it singleplayer, and hire henchmen (npc party members), while exploring a big land, doing some quests, and anticipating some more episodic contents along in the form of expansions, ALL without having to pay stupid monthly fees and feel rushed.

The quests are fun, but character development is nil. After character creation, any decisions regarding your character's development are trivial. Trainers are available for the skills you need when you need them, so there are no trade offs on what skills to get.

Equipment is boring, you can use the armor with defence 8 until you get the armor with defence 9, etc.

It completely pales compared to Dungeon Lords.

I'm pretty picky about games and I really like Guild Wars. There are lots of quests you can do on your own or with a group plus there is optional PVP if you go that route. It's a fun and social game and has wonderful graphics and gameplay.

I think saying it pales in comparison to Dungeon Lords is doing the game a great desservice. GW is a very good game in its own right.

I just picked up Guild Wars today..

IMO, it's a frickin' awesome game. Graphics are simply amazing, but I've got all settings pumped up..

This IS my single player MMORPG. And I've been waiting for that for a long time. I love how every area other than town is my OWN area. If you can't tell, I hate regular MMORPGs but love the way they play. I just want to play them alone, and Guild Wars lets you do that like no other.

It's free, the character designs are great, and there's the promise of expansions to add content (skills, balance, areas, etc.)...I also love the mission based adventuring.

Most of all the game is complete, and polished.

Did I mention it's free? No monthly fees. And the game can really only get better.

Saying it pales in comparison to DL is a very shallow statement I think....they are good games in there own right, but GW does many things infinitely better than DL.

Well, now that I have had a taste of Dungeon Lords, and also have Guild Wars character developed to make a comparison - though they both are apples and oranges, I can truly, truly say that Guild Wars is top notch. It doesn't have that feeling of "one" with your character as Dungeon Lords does probably because you click and attack and the fact that you have usually a few people with you (other players or henchmen). While with Dungeon Lords, you are in control of your characters every move and you have no henchmen with you.

But, the quest, and the main story missions are just out of this world, including the ingame cinematic scenes and the constant opening of new worlds. Anyhow, dungeon lords has potential, but if I had to make a statement like some that were made here when people said that GW pales in comparison to Dungeon lords, definitely would have to say the opposite. Probably, those here that made that statement probably would recant it now that they see all the blunders and "lack of" issues with Dungeon Lords.

Guild Wars is more than just a descent Game. I would rate it with 9 out of 10 points. The classes are well balaced, the PvP part is great, it makes adictive and and and...... Its a bit like a highly advanced Diablo2 in 3D, ist close to Bugfree and really makes fun.

I played ~25 - 30 hours of Guild Wars when I got it, which is saying something since I don't care for MultiPlayer games. It is an excellent game, very well done on all fronts I tried.

the game is pvp

that is your goal

pve is fun and the story line is decent, i enjoy pve

but the fact remains that yoru ultimit goal is to form a guild, or join one, and fight them in GuildvGuild for domanice of the guild ladder (and pvp in other arenas as well such as the hall of heros where if you win you gain favor of the gods for your realm (america/eruope/Korea) and can enter speical areas for more pve content)

finding and unlock all the content you can (unlockign content lets you make a pvp character at any time with anything you find and unlock, such as armor upgrade, skills, weapon upgrades)

The game is ment to be played as a combonations of both pve and pvp and both are well balanced.

Unlike in most games, pvp is balanced, there are no 'uberleet' builds.

And unlike most games if you build a character you dont like, you can actualy change yoru attribues and stats and skills and even secondary classes almost at will, and there is no limit except set by you

if you like a game were you sit around and make leather straps for 10 hours just so you can have enough gold to buy your armor so you can finaly go play some of the fun part of the game, then guild wars IS ->NOT<- THAT GAME

howerver if you like a fast pased well balanced pvp/pve game that you can quicly advance and not have to spend 100's of hours jsut to stay 'compeditive' then guild wars IS THAT GAME

It has 'less grind' that most tradtional mmorpg. The fact of the matter is you can chose to grind if you want to. But not doing so will not make you weaker than eveyone else. No uber skill, builds, or loot.

Player Skill and Teamwork win the day. Not time spent playing.

Be warned there is no 'click here to win' button in guild wars. Be prepared to 'work' at your characters and work at geting better at pvp. But just not as hard or as long as you would have to in other more 'traditional' MMORPG games.

BTW guild wars is NOT in any way like a triditional mmorpg. You will not have the 'epic' feel they have. But it is not designed to be that way.

It is uniqe and because of that it is not comparable to any other game I have played in a long time.

The best thing about guild wars is they do not charge monthly fees.

Yet, they do update and fix things. I have even seen real devs post real topics and replys to real questions and even fixed things many many people have asked for.

They even updated and are adding new pve areas. For free.

when was the last time you played a game where a dev posted, talked, and even added a suggetion you posted to a game you play ... never is my guess

Anet is basicly the 'old' blizzard team. They left blizzard to make guild wars. Wich is why WoW is such a pice of crap. Blizzard lost all its good people.

Anyway, I hope I painted a good pitcture. I am not a fanboi of guild wars. I will tell you straight up many people do not like guild wras because it is not like DAoC/WoW/EQ2/L2 ETC ... but that is because they were expecting GW to be like them,

and its not

its better, just not the 'same'

how many cookie cutter games can you play in a row befor you get bored of them?

;)

Yeah the suport is really great, weekly updates, new content and such stuff.
They do the same way Blizzard did and know how to threat there costumers.
The server are stable like **** (i played a lot and just experienced 1 time a server prob)

But Blizzard lost not all and even the ones that left doesn't works all for A-net. Some of them working at a other RPG that prolly will be awesome as well.
