After the discussions that have taken place in the [General] section regarding musical preferences (c.f. Frag's vids), I am quite intrigued to learn what your all into.

I 'grew up' on Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zep, The Doors, then I progressed onto electronic sounds like Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, and then I discovered Trance, Drum n' Bass.. I presently listen to Dub and a LOT of psychedlic trance and related dance music. I have a huge music collection and listen to all sorts of things - except I draw the line at country and western, Boy bands, Girl bands (vomit) and related sick inducing adolescent yearnings...

So, what's your bag?

Right now I'm into Rammstein, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Porcupine Tree, some Sonic Youth, some Interpol, couple songs by NIN, and THE PIXIES

You know, I have one Rammstein track - Du Hast - which I think is pretty awesome. I really like that German rock sound. I also have a NIN remix of 'You're the perfect drug' which is pretty cool.

Anyone into Underworld?

Iīm alot into old music, like Michael Jackson or The Stranglers. And new bands I kind of like, Eiffel 65 (heavy bass and drums in their tracks) and one song from Rammstein, Ohne Dich.

Thatīs mostly it.

Yeah! I was into The Stranglers for a while, that and 2Tone - listened to quite a lot of it when it was around. I think MJ's Thriller is a killer... Just been listening to some samples of Eiffel 65 from their album Europop - not really my thing, but, then again I only heard 30 sec previews...

Ever heard any Disco drum n' bass? Groups like Sonic & Silver, Influx Datum, and also a great Dn'B band - EZ Rollers? This stuff is really fast but still enjoyable without fazing you out

Du Hast is the one that everybody has heard of.
Try songs like Mein Herz Brennt, Mutter, Zwitter, Du Reichst So Gut, Asche zu Asche, Rammstein, Sehnsucht, Tier, Engel, Links 234, and Mein Teil.

There's many many more but those are just some of the best.

Hmm i mostly listen to rock but i do like alot of rap. But rap just wouldn't sound good in the game so lately i haven't been listening to it much. I like alot of hard rock/metal stuff but i'm picky with metal. Mastodon, Skinlab, and God Forbid, are my favorite metal bands. I like Godsmack, Disturbed, Korn, Prong, Stone Sour, Mushroomhead, Alice In Chains and many others.

Cheers for the list of Rammstein tracks. Grinder - ? I think I might have heard one or two Alice in Chains tracks, but I've not heard any of the others. Me and rap don't get on, so maybe that's why I've not heard of some of them?

I didn't list any rap groups/ rappers in there. they are all rock or metal bands.

You know I bought Metallica's 'Black' album, and it's pretty good (Enter Sandman is going to be a classic for years...), like Guns N. Roses' album that has 'Paradise City' on it. That reminds me of AC/DC - their stuff's pretty variable but I like Back in Black, and the early'ish live album that has Whole Lotta Rosie!

Most of my music is the 60's & 70's. I also like country, old time gospel, R&B, swing and big band.

I know, I'm really showing my age here!!!

I also like a lot of 60's and 70's music and can't help but groove to the rhythm of some 'uplifting' gospel. I also really like Rn'B, but don't have very much of it. I really like The Groundhogs and have a taste for Spirit - the first album I heard by Spirit was PotatoLand - awesome. And on a similar vein, anyone heard Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by the Small Faces?

Ho Ho, my tastes are pretty varied and I've heard a lot of stuff :) I've been listening to music for over 25 years and I'm always on the lookout for more tunes to sample. I play some stuff to folks and they're, like "WHAT the h-ell was that?!?*" Music is one of life's greatest luxuries.

Almost 3 full pages of postings and NOT ONE mention of old-skool Punk? I can't be the only one here who listens to this, can I? Dwarves, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Operation Ivy, Sex Pistols (they're not quite the joke they're made out to be...)

Currently, my I-Pod holds albums (in no particular order) from Primus, Alice In Chains, Dave Matthews Band, Frank Zappa, John Lee Hooker, the mighty Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Neil Young, Pretenders, the Replacements, Cat Stevens, Oingo Boingo, Modest Mouse (and, by extention, Ugly Casanova), the Police, Yes, and Little Feat.

Side note - I listen to some weird stuff (according to my fiance, anyway), and I truly don't get System Of A Down...my high-school garage band could've done better.

There's still a few gaps, and you've helped fill a couple of them... I went through a phase where for about 6 months I was listening to the Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Anti-Nowhere League. Been into Pink Floyd for a long time and Frank Zappa is cool. His Hot Rats and Sheik Yerbouti albums are must-haves.

Yeah, Thriller is one of his best, but my favorite with Michael Jackson is the song "Earthsong".

Eiffel 65īs songs feel very similar at first, you need to be an "audio-holic" to like them I think, Iīm an "audio-holic" (I pay more attention to audio effects in a movie than a movie itself...:p).
It happens if you got a Logitech Z-2200 speaker system or better. :p

The tracks "Blue" and "Move Your Body" are my favorites with them, they also were popular in many countries some years ago.

Iīve never heard of that genre of music nor the bands before. Might be interesting as I like some disco songs. (canīt remember the names tho)

Excellent reference to Zappa - I have one 'live' album by Zappa called Guitar which I felt was a bit of a letdown. I have a couple of 'Mothers' albums - and they're great.

Another genre I'm into and which has not been mentioned yet is that groovy Latin sound or 'salsa' as some folks refer to it. I love boogying away to that shoulder-rolling groove.

After bands lke the Beattles, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and The Doors in my childhood days I moved out of the city, landing in suburbia's wide open fileds of farmland, I progressed to bands like Pink Floyd Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Santana, ZZ Top, and Grand Funk Railroad.

Ah, then came the dreaded move to an even bigger city, where I diversified with the change of times to bands like Rush, AC/DC, Foreigner, Heart, Ted Nugent, and Styx.

There was a period in between the mid 70's to the mid 80's where I listened to harder rock by bands like Megadeth, Metallica, Scorpions, and Def Leppard.

Somewhere in the mid 80's to early 90's my music interests fell off a bit, as the stuff I'd been listening to was growing old. That's when I found Satriani's stuff to be so refreshingly different. I was tired of all the poser metal bands screaming lusty and gruff tones out, and found Joe's rythmic and entrancing yet powerful riffs to fill the bill nicely. I still can't think of anyone's music during that time of my life, that got to me like his did.

In later years, when the "grunge" age came into existence, I seemed to narrow my preferences to bands like Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice In Chains, Tool, and The Cult.

Now I like to think of myself as more open minded, listening to a wider variety of music, and always open to suggestions.

I've found that going through several years of phases where you narrow your tastes to a certain style of music, and worse yet only a half dozen or so bands within that stlye, tends to make you so burned out on it you give it up entirely for a while.

...is also one of the best in the biz.

One of the bands I forgot to mention was Iron Maiden though, their bassist really plays with energy. I also got into Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest during that time, but mostly their older stuff.

Of course after trying to relive my youth a bit through the high energy rock, I often forget the mellower stuff I've enjoyed too, like Supertramp, Allen Parsons Project, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan.

It's funny how you often forget some of the stuff you've enjoyed the most when you're asked what you like.

T'krau

I used to LOVE these guys, back in the day (Can't Buy A Thrill, Katie Lied, stuff like that). Then they decided they were a jazz band. Bummer. I really don't care for jazz.

Bloody 'ell, Frag! I thought you would have been in this thread much sooner, then all of a sudden you arrive on Norrin's board and you're bombarding us with rock bands left, right and center!!!!

I'm into virtually everything you've named. Though I have to say that if your childhood days were contemporary with the Doors then you're probably a teeny bit older than I am!!

But - Allan Parson's Project **Pyramid and I Robot, Ammonia Avenue, Tales of Mystery and Imagination** all these are excellent albums, and another great one has just *popped* into my head - Stereotomy! Though I must admit that I do not often listen to the emotional 'Oh look at me, what am I going to do?' style track that appears at the end of each of his albums.

I remember being amazed by 2112, then I got a 12" of Working Man by Rush. I must have played Working Man a million times and I still practice my air guitar when I listen to it now.

Blimey! I better stop or I'll be here all night...

...album's title track was at a screening of it's debut at a local IMAX theater called the Omni Dome. This theater is not only IMAX, it's screen literally wraps around you on a domed ceiling, while you sit/lay semi prone in a layed back position.

To make it even more exciting the film they showed was of a guy flying an ultralight airplane over the Utah canyonlands, with the camera mounted on the aircraft! Your stomach would virtually drop as the opening scene showed him soaring low off the ground, then over the edge of a huge canyon wall. There were places in the film where he carefully flew between rock spires, and you could see his tiny shadow on them as he passed. It was truly an amazing film, and a great soundtrack to go with.

If you're into Rush, check out their Rush in Rio concert DVD, they play 2 hrs 45 min pretty much straight through, and they play very tight and nearly flawless live. The only noticable song there was any struggling going on, was Geddy's vocals during the high notes of 2112, when they got to the Temples of Sirynx part, but that was at least 1 1/2 into the show, and it's a hard song to sing. These guys are 52-53 years old, and they can still jam like they were in there 20s, maybe even better.

What was cool about it too, is that after over 25 years on the road, they never realized how many fans they had in Brazil, so it was really a special occaision. There is a documentary disc included that is 1 hr long and shows all their Brazil stops, interviews, some up close footage of them preparing for each show, and some nice humor thrown in (Alex Lifeson is a pretty funny guy).

This is a must have concert disc set if you collect them, even if you just rent it, you'll be glad you did.;)

I know what you are saying about live performances, but I really don't get that much enjoyment out of them. I prefer audio/visual - I use iTunes and have G-Force installed, and that's a pretty cool program for visualising your music.

I really much prefer music videos to watching live performances. Have you ever seen any of Chris Cunningham's work? He did the 'weird' playstation girl advert.. He's also done Bjork, a lot of videos for Aphex Twin, and also Squarepusher. Then there's Michel Gondry who's also done Bjork videos and such like. Both of them do weird videos, which are a joy to watch, as they take you on a journey to a place you've never been before...

However, although these are extremely enjoyable, has anyone here ever watched the feature length films Koyaanisqatsi or Powaqatsi? The first contains images of America and depicts the growth of the American industrialised society - every aspect you can imagine. The second depicts scenes showing inequality in the world. Neither contains any speech at all. Both have soundtracks composed by Philip Glass - who, in my experience you either really like or really hate. I think he's feakin' awesome.

Although I've just said all that, I must mention two music videos which I think stand head and shoulders above the rest - Pink Floyd : The Wall, and Led Zeppelin : The Song Remains The Same.

T'krau

No, I've never even heard of it. But it reminds me of another music video which I think is a cut above the rest. Has anyone ever seen Talking Heads' Story Telling Giants? It has their singles videos, and between each one is someone telling a true and unusual story or a story about a persons personal voyage of discovery/realisation. It's a joy to watch.
