Is there a fix for stopping the flashing screen when trying to create a new character? I am on a LCD monitor and running at 1280x1024. It is rather disappointing to have this problem, when trying to start out in the game. Anyone help? or point me to a post that has the answer?

Yeah sure I know your problem. The problem is surely Vsync. To fix this check out your video card's options by right clicking the desktop, clicking properties, then settings, then click the advanced button and finally click the Tab for your card, Nvidia/Radion/Whatever and somewhere on that tab, based on which card you have there should be a Vysnc option. And the Vsync option has three settings, Application controlled, On and Off. If its set to one, try another and load the game. If it still flashes then just go for the third option.

I have same problem, but I am NOT using an LCD monitor. Vsync adjustments either do nothing or make things worse.
Nvidia GeForce 6600.
This is the only game I've had this problem with.
