1,780,000 unused adv. points, and a character dead in the water.

i had written up a few pages of notes on problems in the game, but now i don't even feel like expending the effort. after all these months of forum interaction, i have finally burnt out, i'm done, it's over. i was a yea-sayer for the demo, but i guess the heart of the matter is this:

i can look past most of the problems in the gameplay. i don't care about cosmetics. i don't care about immersion. i don't care about polish. i only care about gameplay.

12 long levels and judicious allocation of points (1,780,000 unallocated) and i find myself deprived of just about the only aspect of the game that i truly care for. i complete the quest for the fighters guild, but all i hear from them (either one) is "you need to complete the quest". i return the egg to the house of the tiger, and i get a heraldry, and no class options.

how can i advance? i can't, i'm not allowed. sadly, this is everything for me, without advancement there is no longer any reason to play. too bad for me, but too good for DC/HP, since they already have my money and i have nothing in return for it.

i was so excited when this game came out, i drove 50 miles to buy it and took off 2 days of work to play it (which one might say increases the price of it to 440 dollars). and now i feel almost.....betrayed. i can't remember ever being so disappointed by a game in all my life. there have been many games i liked less, but i simply stopped playing them. i didn't put 25+ hours into them before discovering that in the end, they were flawed to the point of unplayability.

no mention of these issues was made in the patch info, so this is it. good bye DL, you have failed me in the only measure that counts.

If normal game play is failing you, even after the 1.1 patch, as a last resort just use the +5 trainer (for version 1.0).

Tuskil you know what he is talking about. Get real man. The game does have some flaws. But, let me encourage the first poster by saying, give them time to patch it up. If they dont, then i will be right behind you saying **** you HP and DC. Peace.

Dude, you can spend those points by pressing C before you revive your character. You didn't have to lose anything.

Also, you have nobody to blame but yourself for losing pay. You should be more responsible.

You can easily get advanced points back by hex editing the savegame file. Use a hex editor find feature to search for your character name three times. The starting offset of advanced points is always 169 bytes from the start of your character name. It's stored as a signed long in the game so the max you can set it to is 0x7FFFFFFF. It's also stored little-endian, so the max would look like FF FF FF 7F in the savegame file.

1,780,000 = 0x001B2920 so just make those bytes read 20 29 1B 00 and you have your points back.

Um people, when he said his character was dead in the water, I'm certain it was just a form of speech.

As far as no advancement I think your character still has options. Why not role play? Okay so the fighters guild or whoever wont advance you then become a rogue or join another guild. The game world is so huge and with over a million points to spend just do something else and plot your vengence.

I always select wonky characters to play. It seems when I go against type I always have more fun with the game. My morrowind character had thief / rogue characteristics but refused to steal. Whenever I went inside a shop I was alwasys thinking I can rip this guy off if I want to. So your fighter can't advance in the fighter guild BOO HOO. Tell your character to stop feeling sorry for himself.

Did you character advance already in any other guild? My character was able to become both a Marauder and a Trickster and now I have Cabalist added so I have two second tier promotions and 1 third tier.
