I'm playing on Normal, I'm trying to make Arindale and I'm barely hanging on. I seem to be the worst fighter in the land. I'm level 7, skills are only 5 light weapons, 3 medium, and 5 bows.
I get out shot and out fenced by everyone it seems. What should my stats be? I have read the description but without numbers showing hit % etc, I can't really tell what the effect of parry is, or high dex or high agility. They descriptions aren't specific enough to help me decide how I want to spend the points to match my play?
I try and defend at good times but I get flanked too easily by massive spawns and I just now noticed once your shield block is broken you have to reclick, it won't go back in to a defensive posture. Also what's that spinning around that happens, is that just getitng beat up? Rats do that to me even, and I can't spin a **** thing. Also the combo seems sorta usualess as part way through it seems to knock the opponent out of the range of the coup de grace thrust.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

circle the group of monsters. keep moving. dont let them surround you (back yourself into a corner if you have to)
the circular combo move tends to knock some back, and i would rotate my camera to target the big thrust at any other monster that wasnt knocked back (you can spin during this, but not move). that worked pretty well with the combos.
i used range when i needed to catch my breath and soften up the monster group.
also, use the monsters ranged attacks against their own. always try to keep a melee monster between you and the monster casters/ranged.

one thing you MUST do, Make sure that your dex asgility vitality and str are at least all 45 before geting into the main quest in arindale, they will send you into a dungeon they call the trial of the elders, if you think you have seen massive unending spawns think again, and there is one freaky little ***** of a banshee she uses this weird scream spell that will be the end of you. it is recognized by her holding up her arms and orange sparkles flying around her, make sure when she does this that you are facing her and that you have your shield up or you will die fast!!!! 2 more things are to have alot of points in vitality so you have a decent amount of HP and make ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU HAVE A SURPLUS OF HEALTH POTIONS!!! you will need them, for 2 reasons #1 in the trial of the elders you will get creamed royaly, but right after the trial they send you to house fathien wich is basicaly another huge dungeon with somewhat stronger enimies and once you enter the trial of elders the only shop in arindale that sells potions will be closed!!
A good way to spend your ADV points is agility and dex, dex increases your damaging power (doesn't seem like it much but it does slightly) and the most important stat to combat is agility, you must be faster then the other enimies so that you can hit them before they can hit you especially in large groups i have my agility over 80 and when i am surrounded i can move my character from side to side with the mouse so that i can hit them and stop them from hiting me. a few points in parry would be a good idea, parry is a little bugged but it does work, especially with armor that gives + parry, this gives you a better chance of blocking your oponents (physical) attacks with your weapon

thanks for the tips, I guess I spent too many points in skills and not enough on my stats. the buy up to that level 5 bow skill( i was trying to setup an archer type character but that doesn't seem too practical so far) was massive. :(

ranged isnt viable by itself. you will need a strong melee or spell ability. otherwise, you have just begun to get your butt stomped.
I play a advanced class of knight and with heavy armor/weapon with 90 vitality 70 str and around 45 dext and agility the game has been easy on normal so far. Even the elven trial oponents were simple. The 2 elven masters / banshee were nigh invincible with like 3k hp's but but didn't hit too hard. I was getting really tired of clicking though with my 15-20 hp attack :)
The object is to keep moving and I keep charging on bosses. I like to stay in there face as much as possible to connect all the combos. Move up after each hit so you last one connects most the time. Plus you can interrupt there spells and attacks if you are aggressive.
I just raise my weapons/armor skills to stay par with the type of armor and weapon i'm using so I dont' incur penalties. I don't think there is any way to play except fighter type with some magic / bow skills.
Drakes are a pain .. best bow i've found is 2-4 dmg? and i'm in skuldoon now.
With there knockback fire I can't get close at all to do melee dmg. Took half hour of hiding behind a tree and doing 2-4 dmg to kill one. Can't seem to find any magic either. Is the loot drops depended on the character you are playing? The only mage I've seen that sells spells is in Fargrove. How do I get any spells besides fireball / magic missile and star?

what the vendors sell might depend on your lvl. i never noticed, but at the end of the game, i added arcane magic for kicks and was able to buy quite a few spells, including fire nova (lvl 10 spell), from the vendor in fargrove.
best bow i found in the game was master battle bow (3 to 9 damage i think) but required way above my measly strength of 24.
dont be fooled into thinking that you need strength to melee in this game. nor do you have to play a fighter-type to melee well. you find a _great_ light + magic weapon in the shadow temple (sceptre of shadow). i was using that plus ninjitsu all the way to the end of the game.

Heres a tip about the elven trial... The first monster with the bow on the columns and the banshee after that do not have to be killed. In fact I don't think you are supposed to kill them at all.
For that first archer, you must jump up onto the column in front of him and then from what I can tell you are supposed to jump onto the ledge right where he is and he will despawn. However, this was executed wrong, and he will pull out his sword and run up to the ledge, leaving you no room to move there. You can use a scroll of burning star and push him back to make room for you to jump up there which will cuase his to disappear and move on to the next ledge. You can do this 3 times, the last time he completely disappears.
As for the banshee, she doesnt move very fast, you can lose her by luring her to the back of the first wing then making a break for it. She will despawn when you activate the runes.
PS >< After the patch, burning star seems to not work, I dont know if it will still push him back, bring a spear with you, that works almost as well.

I killed them both, archer for almost 700.000 exp, banshee 500.000 exp, which helps a lot! I was level 7 before Trial of Elders and level 12 after it!
Killing archer was easy, but way too long  Stand on the column just in front of her and cut, cut, cut... At this position she won't be attacking (another bug maybe) and you can kill her pretty easy ;)
