in the last room of trial with pentagrams and teleporting mage throwing down fireballs, there's a bug preventing to move further on if u save/reload inside this room.
juss kill all the elven archers & knights that spawned inside the room, the mage will dissappear and an elevator will comes down and u can proceed.

as the path of tiger says u gotta have patience
i didnt need to kill elven archers on this level, use your shield to cover from his arrows wait for him to reload arrow and jump to another pillar, repeat this until u get close enough to him, he will draw his sword and when u get close enough to him start slashing him untill he backs down and when he does that quickly jump to the platform and he will dissapear.
go inside and there blue thingy on the floor run through it and a pillar goes down allowing to jump to it so start jumping on the pillars again.
rinse & repeat
ps : i didnt need health potions on this level :)

Yeah, I didn't get the pilar thing for quite awhile. I spent about 20 minutes throwing knives that did 3-4 dmg :( at him until I got bored and started looking for an alternative, which was to jump on the pilars and eventually make him disappear by reaching the highest ledge. I suggest trying to kill this guy with arrows, knives, or shurkins if you have the patience. I guarentee, with the amount of HP that guy has, you'd get well over 800k exp from it. If you ask me where I get this figure - see Trial #3 which I write about below.
The second trial I call the banshee trial. At first I was thinking I could make some mad exp by killing it, but I learned that those **** burn spells really hurt and it could take forever and a bunch of potions to kill it, so I just grabbed all the cubes and activated the cage in the center, making it disappear. Also the chests are very low level, easy, but the loots not that great in my opinion.
Third trial was probably the easiest and the most worthwhile. I pretty much just ran past the mobs on the ledges and once you touch the floor runes the mobs stop spawning and the center ledge will rise. Repeat on the next ledge, kill mobs, then run towards the gate and a Master Elven Knight or whatever appears. This is the one trial boss mob you should try to kill if any, especially if your character is primarily melee. Sidenote: Took me quite awhile with melee criticals and such (probably about 20-25 minutes), but my character is pretty weak. Makes up for weakness with quickness, so basically I was completing successive 5 hit combos, blocking, and repeating. Anyhow, if you do attempt to kill this guy, make sure you don't touch the last floor rune or he'll disappear. Also, make sure you don't hit it into the water because I don't think there's a way to get back up. From what I could tell he didn't drop anything good - the item was a sword that got discarded when I tried to pick it up, but he gave me close to 900k exp. 25 minutes for almost 900k exp is well worth it I'd think. I say that because I only had a 1.2 million exp before that.
Fourth trial was probably the hardest, though I realized that you can use arrows or knives in the enterance before going into the trial itself, and the wizard will shoot his fireballs at you from the doorway. Again, if you have the patience you could make a lot of exp for killing that guy by using your ranged weapon of choice. I spent about 5 minutes attacking it, but he likes to disappear after about two fireballs. It wasn't worth it to me because at the rate of dmg I was doing, it would have taken at least an hour. No way I'm spending an hour using throwing knives. I know some people have poisoned knives (where the heck did you get those?!) but oh well.
Anyway, hope this was somewhat informing.

Ok, I'm still stuck on the fourth trial. I saved the game right when I walked in the room (reflex action from playing many RPGs), so I hope you aren't right about that bug.
After I've killed all the people on the floor, I don't know what to do then. I thought that since the only things in the room that were tangible were those fire spouts next to each pentagram that they would something to do with this part of the trial, but I have yet to figure it out. There are pools of water behind the fire spouts, too. Probably useless. Maybe you have to walk through the fire spouts in the room to form a pentagram or something?
I'm stuck here, being hit by fireballs from the teleporting mage who I don't think you're supposed to be able to kill (like many others in the trial).
Somebody gimme a hand here.

Ah, you might be bugged if there are no longer mobs and the elevator didn't lower for you.
Basically, when you enter the fourth trial room the gates close behind you and mobs appear from the three rune spheres. All I did (since I'm a rogue) was run along the edge edges through the water and the ledges near the water to avoid all the arrows and magic attacks. I would also make quick 3 hit combos while running because on the 4th and 5th hits your PC stops (I hate that).
I don't know if you have to do this to complete the room, but I made sure to touch all three rune spheres in the room multiple times, and as the mobs stopped spawning I killed the rest of them and the elevator automatically lowered.
If the above poster is correct and you saved inside the 4th trial without completing it then you might be bugged, but I didn't have a problem.

I'm almost ashamed, I'm stuck in the second room with the banshee, I killed all spirits (except the banshee ofcourse), but euhm where do I find the cubes needed to open the cage?
ps: is it normal that there is no more respawning of spirits?

Look in all the chests that are tucked in the pillars surrouding the cage in the middle. Some pillars are moster respawn spots and some hold chests, then some are just empty.
Can anyone talk about the 4th trial yet?

Same problem here. I did save, but only because I saw no end to the spawning and was more or less surrounded. I hope they fix this!

There are four corridors in the 2nd trial with several square rooms in each. Some rooms have chests, some don't. You'll need to open the chests to find the cubes, and once you find the cubes you activate them by going to the corresponding runic on the floor in the center of the main room and using SHIFT. Hope this helps.

I suggest reverting to an old save and saving right before entering the room. Then complete the trial without saving inside of it. That would be my best guess.

killed the elven warrior at the 1st trial, just stand before him and make sure he's got his blade out and keep stabbing, takes a few minutes but major exp (650.000+) if I remember correctly, but again it takes some minutes.
2nd boss (banshee) is do-able when you know that if you got the banshee cornered she won''t use that shuriken spell that much. When she makes the "arms above her head gesture" run, let the shuriken fade out and pin her again, don't remember how many exp. but less then the 1st.
3rd after the water thingy, same tacktics as with no. 1. Stand before him and keep stabbingand don't let him of that balcony thing keep him on it! about 10 min later an 3 potions, voila 650.000+ exp.
4th got the same problem I think it is a bug cos after killing all the spawning soldiers and making sure the spawning stopped, no elevator. after killing the wizard, nothing. can be done but only with spells and arrows and it takes about an hour (trust me i've tried and succeded, but my index finger needs replacement!) , so just don't! I still have a save after killing the 3rd boss so I'll try and do it in one go and don't save, we'll see!

i had hard times on this level my character is adept/fighter level 7 with stats average 20-25. the mobs keeps spawning like **** :)
save before entering the room, and do not reload when inside the room
somehow when u save/reload inside the room it'll trigger the bug the mobs will stop spawning and the elevator wont comes down.
good luck :)

Yup, I think the 4th trial definitely is bugged. I didn't save once after the trials started and the 4th trial played itself out and the elevators lowered. You can tell if you've saved the game and got the bug when you kill the three first elven warrior females and there are no more respawns.
Thanks again to all those who gave some feedback here.

I am Getting my A$$ handed to me in the 4th Trial, I can Last about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way thru then I die, Ran out of Healing and stupid Celestrial Magic take WAY to long to cycle. May have to resort to a Cheat/trainer or use a hemmer on my Heas LOL.
Is there any tricks to fightin in 4th trial? I am going for ninja or Ranger lord
Have about L5 in Lt and Med weaponsand parry, armor is Light L~5 or so with some Medium L5 mixed in.

Use the mobs against eachother. I ran around the perimeter, there are ledges on the outside of the water so that the water doesn't slow you down. The magic users will hit the melee and eachother, and the wizard at the top will hit his minions if you attempt running through the center once in awhile. While you run do one to three hit combos, don't do 4-5 because you'll come to a complete stop and get hit. That's pretty much it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am absolutely fed up with the fourth test. It has downright ----- me off. They won't stop respawning. I ended up killing a dozen archers, around 10 warriors and 5 mages before i died, and more were spawning in when I died. What gives. I didn't save in the room.

I finally completed it. I'm not sure if this is correct but it seems like if you re-step on the floor rune you reactivate the spawns. When I avoided re-stepping on them the spawns stopped and I was able to clear out the room. :)

It doesn't matter what I do, I can't shut off the spawning and or out last the monsters. I tried running around the edge, got so crowded couldn't get through. The whole room was filled with them. Made it impossible to run. I've died in that room more then 90 times, kinda takes the fun out of it. I want to here it from them, the programmers, that yes, this is what is supposed to happen. Cause if this is what they wanted, a bunch of p_____ off gamers who won't buy anything made by them again, then there doing great. There first game was so buggy I couldn't finish it. The game it self would not let me finish. To move on you had to have the town hall for quest and such. My version would not let you use the town hall. So I guess I should have known better then to think they would get this one right. Too bad to. There was actually alot of the game I liked. My 5 year old daughter finishes things better than these guys. And this is suppose to be by the guy who did the wizardry series. Goes to show just how much he really had to do with it and how much was really done by other people. Oh well chock it up as c_____.

In answer to one question, your never to low a level to open a chest. I've opened ever chest I've come to. Even the ones that said I only had a 1% chance of opening. Just save before the chest and try try again. May take awhile but you'll get it. No the elders are not 800,000. Like you said they are 600,000 somewhat number. Two elders to kill in the first three levels. One on the first and one finishing up the third. Kill both. Makes a huuuuuuge difference. Never did make it through with my human. I gave up started a new game as an elf (hoping the elder elf spirits would take it easier on me). Let me tell you, starting as an elf kicks a__. Once you finish up in fargrove and make it to the elf city, you can rent one bad sword at the elf armory. Took it with me in the elder trials and killed everything (except the banshee) inside. It only took me two tries to get through trial 4, and I didn't run around, I attacked everything they spawned at me and no problems. Not a whole lot of bugs sense then just odd thing here and there like wild wolves attacking me while I'm already being attack by thieves. Now heres the part I don't understand. Why don't the wolves attack the thieves as well as me. Djo the thieves and the wolves have an agreement? Same with every other random encounters I have. They never attack anything but you, never each other. So basicly the whole world has made a pack not to attack anything but you. Just a little odd. Or why is it I had fifteen seperate wandering monster attacks while trying to open one chest. Or try running more than a hundred yards without getting attacked once, twice or even three times. Is it just me or do wandering monsters seem a bit to frequent. Lastly, I just saved the kings son and this is also the site of one of the relics. Now we were told to find Davenmoors daughter first. Can we get the relic first then save the daughter or do we have to leave, save the daughter, then come back later?
GinRummy
05-15-2005, 09:52 PM
This only a bit of a spoiler, but so many people are hung up about this. Saving the daughter is a complete red herring, and I really dislike how the game stresses it so heavily. Several different people and dialogues say to find her first, but by the time you do, the game is almost over. Too bad, since they were pretty much right: her ring kicks *** and gives 100% immunity to all elements and forms of magic.

Usually designers put something in like a little elevator, a stairs, a ladder, a teleporter somewhere in the room. 40 minutes running around and no luck. If you fall in the water is your only recourse restarting from a saved game?

I read where y'all said don't let him fall in the water ... well, I am just a little 9th level wizard see and standing up a big bad like this ain't feasible. I unleashed 50 rats on him, 4 fireballs, 2 fire blasts, 6 magic missles, and stood him up until I went thru 31 potions. He wasn't even 1/4 dead.
Tactic 2. dump him in the water and run to a bridge. He will stay in visual range of arrows. It takes 1287 successful hits with an elven longbow. Yes, I counted. Occassionally he will moe directly underneath you. Simply run back to the platform where he spawned (don't hit the scion, or he poofs), take a couple pot shots, then run back to the bridge. He will stay in range for another 300 or so hits.
Yes, it took 1hour 15 minutes, but he died and I got 810,000 exp. Well worth it.
I still don't know if there is a way out of the water if you fall in yourself.
Sorry to respond to my own post, but I couldn't find the edit feature.
Trail 4: I died 3 or 4 times, but it was well worth it to get the heck out of the trials. Just be sure to spend your points you accumulated before you revive yourself. It does seem to make a difference stepping on the spawn points more than once. In running away from them, I stepped on one of the spawn points a second time and all of a sudden I got new spawns. I avoided stepping on the spawns any more and spawns stopped. simple enough level compared to a water room you can't excape from should you fall off a bridge. This room, worst can happen is you die a couple times.

Yes, there is an exit if you fall in the water, just swim back to the beginning of the level and there is a platform at the far right hand side, which will raise you back up. Not had the patience or enough spells to kill the Elder mage, but the prior three give you
1. Elder archer Kyoto 669,900 Xp
2. Elven Banshee 467,558 Xp
3. Elven master 810,550 Xp
So if you can be bothered to kill them since you dont actually need to kill anything if you dont wish to. Just making it thru the first three trials can easily net you 2 mill Xp. Especially if you are an elf and pick up the treasure from the hall of weapons ;) makes life soooo much easier.

I solved this little "problem" in other way. I just killed that elven archer and got 800 000exp from it :) That was a nice little suprise :) I stood on that platform and swinged my sword like...ehm.. whatever :P

Trust me, the 1st room will be so easy if you become a celestial. All you have to do is equip the Diamond Light crystal from the Celestial quest and hack at the ghost guy. Because it's Pro Vs. Undead(like 2x damage or whatever), you can do tons of damage, even more with the advanced strikes in light weaponry skill. I was doing like 20 with the spin move as an elf and took him out in about 15 minutes. I just stood at the edge of the last pillar and he couldn't hit me. I killed the Banshee the same way, hit her into a corner and beat on her until she died. I just skipped the mage guy, though, and killed everyone inside with only like 50 hp! It was good for knocking my hp up, that was sure.
Oh, and if you fall in the water, you're not in trouble. All you need to do is turn to the entrance of the room, go to the right side of the center platforms, and swim to the right corner of the area closest to the entrance, but not the alcoves where you stepped on the switches.

Once done you can't go back except by the magic of a saved game. This will be a usefull lesson later on when you come across the stone guys trying to push you off the pillars. Rule one for more XP in this game...kill every monster you come across... :)

Hmm. I died during the 4th trial and was going to Res but saw that the ghosts were firing at the mage and he was firing at the ghosts, so I just stayed dead until the mage killed them all.
Of course, I missed out on the XP but I was able to have lunch while that was going on. :)
Since I've now restarted from scratch I'll remember to kill everything.

I've seen people talking about no elevator in the 4th trial. When I first did this, I didn't know what I was looking for, and just walked on this platform over by the wall. Next thing I knew I was up in the air. But that wasn't good enough because it was a dead end. but I looked across the room and there was another elevator on the floor directly across, so I jumped to the floor from the first one and stepped on the other one. The first one came down as the second one went up and let me out of there.
I thought it was a pretty cool trick. I also was able to step on the little icon/sigils and they didn't respawn afterwards either, unless you stepped on them again. I actually found this out because I got tired of them respawing walked over to one of them and started slashing while they were respawning, all the while standing on it. Next thing I knew, there was nobody coming out anymore, so I went to the next and did the same thing. Worked like a charm.
I actually thought the whole thing was easy compared to getting lost in the dreaded Naga. If it hadn't been for that map, I would have never gotten through it.. Now, I'm reading I left some kind of relic behind?? that really bites if it's true.
