Can´t get Map to work..

I can´t get my map to work, is it meant to be with you from the begining or is that something you get later? Im i an idiot or is it a bug?

No one has the map. Just use the paper map that came with the game.

Or in cases like mine where I didn't get a paper map, use your compass, and especially use the paths while trying not to get run off them by mobs.
