I want to go Drake hunting. how?

Someone told me if i steal a drake egg and mix it with other ingredients or possibly give the egg to the Tiger Path guy ( i already gave him a drake egg for a quest) they can make a oil that i can put on me that will make me impervious to drake attack of fire. I wonder how much exp a Drake is worth ;)
Has anyone killed the Drakes yet? If so, how?

I´ve killed em al muahahha took me forever though with a bow and magic missiles... 300 000 XP points my Char is level 12 ran like **** until it got stucked betwena tree and a hill i ran behind the tree fromt n back takes about 20 min or more to kill one..

why did you not just use the protect from fire sphere Celestial?
I think i will try to kill one later with that Celestial and the light diamond weapon, i leveled up on magic weapon and light weapon to 11 each, causing 4-19 damage.

where are the drakes at? The guy said west of arindale, but that is vauge...also, i just keep running into mountains that cause me to go north south or back east, but no west. If the path is THROUGH arindale, i missed it..

i just followed the river north a bit then hung a left then south to get into the roosting grounds of the drakes.

just to update:
Even at lvl 13 with diamond light weapon and the Celestial fire resist sphere, the drakes burned me up quickly. Their hit points must be 200-300+, even with hitting a drake and causing 16 damage it barely registered on their health meter and after 6 hits it barely reduced their health at all.

wow these guys are tough.
anyone have a decent fire resist spell or armour?

If you get lucky, one of the chests by the drakes may give you a nice Shield. It gave me the "Shield of the Griffon" !00% resistance to everything.


Makes drakes seem like kittens. :P

thanks, good tip, i will look into that. Still some hope without having to get to lvl 20 before trying another drake hunt.

I am going to try to steal another egg though and see if anyone knows how to make the drake proof oil/spell/potion i heard a character talk about.

I just killed the drake last nite and I was lvl 12 and Im useing a sorcerer and it took me about 30 mins. to kill him with my throwing dagger and some magic when I had it to use.I might add that my settings are at hard mobs and more incounters. So the drake gave me like 368,000 xp.
Add yes haveing you setting on hard for mobs, you do get more xp... :cool:

woohoo i finally did it in under 5 min btw

for some reason this drake chose to land. I think this was the solution, because i could not even reach the other drakes to hit them with my ice sword before, since they were 15-20 feet up and flying.

on hard level 303513 exp and got a tooth out of it.

i killed a few more drakes. Now there are only 2 left sitting on the nests

for one drake I hid behind a mound and as soon as the drake poped over the peak flying, i jumped and hit it with the ice sword bringing it down to earth.





btw the locking picking skills sure come in handy with the chests right near the nests.

did you check all the nests? i found plenty of eggs but you can only carry one at a time.

I think the drakes keep respawning. maybe not the ones on the nests but one near the entrance to the drake area does.

I killed 6-7 of them and leveled up twice.

also i found a slight exploit which is great for important treasure chests like at the drake nesting grounds.


save game just before you open the chest, and then save in another save game slot after you pickup the treasure.

If you don't like what you picked up, reload the game just before openeing the chest and try again.
Treasure found is random. First i found a +5 pro fire ring, crap, so then i tried again and found a +15 pro against freezing ring from the same treasure chest.

My drake hunting days are over. I took my limit for the season. :)

fire drakes are pretty easy. I can take them down in melee. dont even have those uber weapons ; )

I got a shield of Dragon (100% Pro Fire) but it seemed to do absolutely nothing to protect me from Drake Fire.

Is this another BUG or am I missing something?

(P.S. I killed All of these guys with a lvl 4 thief by standing just out of their recognition range and then hurling Throwing Knives at them ... they never respond ... and if I aimed just so it would hit the majority of the time. I killed them at a rate of about 10 minutes each. ;) )

it might well be a bug, i found a 100% proof against magic shield, and those mage trolls were still zapping my guys butt and laughing about it, and now the shield is like 21% damaged and the repair function does not work at the shops. :(

@freshjuice My 200% against magic shield was working fine before the save, magic bolts from mage trolls had no effect at all on me. I wonder if it because of improper stats saving.

If they land and come close use ward of fire and rune armor and blade of baal and you can kill them pretty fast. It also helps to use Freezing touch to freeze them for like 4 or 5 seconds so you can do some good damage.
Im at level 14 right now but thats becuase i killed about 9 drakes doing this so it works pretty well.

lol i kill fire drakes relatively easily givin i have 39 archery and 18 hawkeye to pull on them and a crap load of nether magic kataals and such to go along with 69 nether. i kill them pretty much all day but it really helps to go to the vale of ruin and get the shield and take a visit to the shadow ruins and get your self a shadow septre. with all those supplies drakes fall easily. i got lv 28 off drakes goin for the big 30 they own for exp

Runescape101 says he got to level 28 killing them but i was only able to find the ones around their nesting area about 7-9 of them. Are there other areas, I have not been able to find any. I did have one spawn when I was on my way to Arindale my first trip there. Boy did that ever suck, I was like Level 4-5 but beat it by trapping it inside some trees and impale it with like 2000 arrows, lol. They don't respawn in their nesting area, do they? Thanks for all the good info.:) :)
