One really effective way to play a warrior with some limited magic..
Spend a LONG time in the first areas before fargrove. the sewers fightin the goblins. I mean a REALLY long time.. before you enter the town shoot for level 4 at least. Find a nice room and stand there. Every few seconds just spin completely around. Usually spawns stuff quick.
Spend most on str and vitality.
Get at least level 5 bargain skill.
Push up weapon and armor second to stats and bargain.
Once you get to fargrove hit the magic shop and sell everything you dont need NOW. just load up as much as you can on blast nova scrolls. Then get you a load of health potions.
Go back to the entrance and wander around the theatre rooms. Blast nova the packs for another 2 levels or more. Head back to the magic shop and fill up your blast nova scrolls.. Should now be able to get almost 150 if you sell almost everything from both trips.
Also get the best armor/weapon you can.
Between the time where you leave fargrove. And when you can enter it again. You should have plenty of money. Load up again on blast nova scrolls. 400 of them! The scroll version beats the arcane version by far. It doesnt rely on your magic skills. Anyone can use it. And it packs a real punch for taking out groups of monsters. never waste one on a single monster unless its a big one.
What this gets you. A fighter who can really kick the crap out of just about everything in melee combat one on one. And a backup option for big groups. When you start getting low on health from a group orgy messin ya up. Hit the monsters with blast nova once or twice. Drink a potion and clean up any surviving monsters with your weapon.
Larger monsters are still a problem. Drakes for example. But just about everything else you can roll right thru without dying at all if you are careful.
On my 4th run thru now with the ogre character (forget their name. Big ugly guy) Died zero times. 7000+ kills
Combo fighter/mage/knight/battlemage so far.
Hes pretty stupid. and kinda slow. But he can soak up the damage and really lay into the packs with his giant battle axe. (i kept the giant axe from the headless monster in the crypt. its got a nice animation and looks right for the character)
And when in a pinch with a big group. Hit em with blast nova! Fire nova is ok too. but i havent seen a scroll version. Just the arcane version. and theres a long long pause in between being able to cast it a 2nd time in combat. the scroll version of blast nova will fire real quick.
And when you find those annoying packs of weak monsters. 1 blast nova should take care of them all alone. rats. snakes. bees. bats.. Always gather all loot. Sell all of it. Its cheaper to buy nether spells rather than make your own. If you end up going that way.
It can also be used aginst big monsters effictively. But that gets expensive wasting 10 of them on a guy. Or 50 for a drake.. and being close enough to a drake to hit them with it :)
Overall tho. Hes a tank. Mowing thru the monsters!
Bargain/heal potions/armor/weapon/BLAST NOVA! I love it
Note: You can turn any store into one that sells the scroll, celestial spell, arcane spell, runestone or runespell, nether spell, and potion you want. Sell them one. You can now buy an unlimited number back from them.
