View Full Version : Do shields add defence?
When i equip a shield(lets say that it suppose to add +10 defense), it doesn't show it(i dont see my defence skill chance, +10 would't be added there). Does anybody has the same problem? And also i found a shild, which has 100% protection to fire, but my fire resistance is stlill 20% - Why is that?
And i also completed a "way of the dragon" quest and had this symbol of dragon in charecter's profile and it should add +10% fire resistance, but it dosent - i wonder if any of those other symbold do what they promise to do?
Do only i have those problems?

Hmm... that sorta reminds of a problem I encountered today. The Rune armor spell doesn't raise the defence score. But my guess is that it's "present" but not shown.
Have you tried to eqiup the shield with 100% fire resistence and fight a fireball slinging enemy and see what happens?
After i got this shield, i killed 2 fire-drakes and their fire did a lot damage.

it doesnt add anything unless your are "using" the shield
come on people use your common sense
So what you wanna say, is that i'll olny get +10 to defence when i'm blocking? Thats weird coz in any other rpg, if shield is equipped it's defence is added to characters defence. And fireballs can be blocked with any shield that does't have fire-resistance.

If you haven't noticed, the shield does a h*ll of alot more then just adding +10 defence when you are blocking. It BLOCKS whatever was going to hit you. Like an arrow or a sword.

I didn't know that, i thought they were in this game only to be thrown in the fire to fry a egg on them.
Ok it only add when blocking - ok then.

I’m willing to think that it’s another bug. I have two shields what should give 100% to fire resist but don’t. Even when I'm blocking they don’t protect my character anymore then another shield would against fire damage.
I’m thinking that this is a bug because I have a “turtle shield” (I think that’s it…) that gives 100% to cold resist and when I have it equipped the resistance chart shows that I have 100% cold resist. So like I said, chances are that some of the shields or at least the ones that give fire resistance are bugged. That or my turtle shield is… heh
Possible, now i remembered that when i was blocking fire-drakes fire, the fireballs that slightly missed me(falling on the ground near me) i got fire damage.
But do those symols/emblems do what they suppose to? After finishing way of the dragon quest, i got dragon symbol and it didn't raise my fireresistance +10%.

I want to go back to the "+X Shield" rating on shields. All shields from the smallest goblin shield to the largest kite shields seem to get the same job done, just the big ones have more durability. Large shields have a higher +X Shield and I have no idea what the means. As far as I can tell, there is no reason to level up medium or large shields unless just for looks.

So far the hearldrys i've gotten have all added to my stats..
Been watching carefully.
only one im not sure about is +luck from the start of the game. it might be my imagination but i have better chances of bashing a chest with luck. and seem to get knocked down a little less.

When I block a flame attack from a drake, it eats my shield and I'm left with nothing. Try blocking with the 100% fire resistant shield and see if it gets eaten too. I'm guessing it wont, but I dont have a shield to try it with.
Yes, it slowly gets eaten. I blocked like 10 firebals and only 94% were left.

so its really the 99.9% fireproof shield... lol
I think i'll stick to running away from the fireballs. its cheaper than replacing stuff. or cheaper than repairing when/if that works.
Those who said before, that shields add their armor to characters armor lied, because while blocking i pressed "E" and my armor rating was the same as without shield. :confused: I tried all the shield i have and none of them added their resistances to my character resistances. lame.
