View Full Version : What is the worst part of the game? (not bugs)
For me it was the shadow temlple and there, the floating islands with 2 exit. It was boring, stupid i hate that part. And it was really not fun.

the only thing i seem to dislike is the compass
it should be reversed, having the NEWS rotate around a fixed arrow instead
or perhaps just changing the arrow a bit it has 3 points on it and when watching in the corner of yer eye it gets a bit messed up, i end up going the wrong dir alot by accident, or just tired :P

In all honesty, I like the game but...to tell you the truth on what the single WORST part is...
Lack of furniture and NPCs in certain areas. I've made areas and such for NWN and the very first thing I do after I get the area set up was put furniture and extras all over. Next, populate it with a few NPCs here and there. Not every single one has to give a quest or anything, but atmosphere helps dramatically. The worst part is when you goto the King of Rothn and he's standing there by the tents SOLO. You would *think* the King would bring some people to help him, or at the very least, protect him. He may be a King, but he's not not strong ;).
Then places like Skuldoon also, I would love to have seen more cots, boxes, etc in the huts and more demigoth types roaming around doing whatever. Maybe some arguing/getting in a fight or something. I guess after walking in cities/towns/farms in Gothic you kind of expect a little more.
Arindale is probably another big example. I guess the worst part is, is that you guys DO have the models for beds/tables/beer steins/stools/buckets etc whatever all in the game, just need to use them a whole lot and the game would literally be way way cooler, at least IMO. If only I could have the game in the NWN toolset, lol ;). Because I like the combat setup compared to just click this, click that...doh

i wish there were ppl you can ask/pay to join you on your quest (single player) and they help in the fights just like the Farngrove guards do. also the person you hire to join you could have thir own quest that you help them acheive.
I don't think this is hard to program, since the sommon spell the undead follow you around and help with fighting.but they don't talk :(
SPOILER ALERT
A good example: The disgrace woman of the family. you could have met her living as an outcast in a remote part of the map, she asks for help, she joins your party and you travel to ulm together to kick the Fathien king *** in a climatic boss level. You and her against the Fathien king.
Then a brief cut scene Ceremony (ala star wars) when you go back to Arindale king to present him with the stolen armour.

I hate the puzzles..
they are too vauge and you never know exactly what to do. More people willing to sell/give you hints about things would be nice.
Like a greedy naga guard in the temple to give you a few pointers depending on how much you want to spend.

I will second that.....F"IN bats, rats and snakes. DL version

Definetely the shadow ruins with all those jumping puzzles. This place is pure **** for me at the moment.
Also a lot of fights with enemies that let you choke (e.g. the naga queen) are pretty stupid if you are not the most skilled button mesher. My char spent 4:57h choking during a 5:00h fight with the naga queen.
only been through the first town, but so far the worst part is the load time between parts of town.
and bats.

Trapped chests are horrible. Not only do they blow up an unlimited number of times (once would be plenty), the disarm traps skill is by far the worst I have seen in any game, completely unusable.

I don't have a problem w/it.
I think this is about the coolest chest/trap setup that I've seen.

Removing the bugs and not much I didnt enjoy.
Toughest fight for me was that Witch in the Vale of Ruin. Something other Pox (3rd Tier Sisterhood Quest). She repeatedly throws a huge choking cloud AoE that is devestating (much like Naga Queen, only it seemed worse). Oh, did I mention she likes to root you in place so you cant run, while the cloud chokes you to death? Dont think I would of ever killed her if I hadnt finally woke up and put on the Gas Mask. Seems 100% Prot vs Poison stops you from choking.
I think half the people complaining are doing so based more on their own lacking, more than the games lacking. Least when it comes to the fights and the puzzles and the no auto-map. Take me for instance. I had the tools to kill Pox, but made the fight far more hard/long because I didnt use what I had. You should of heard my colorful cursing when she first rooted my character amidst that cloud and choked the life out of my poor toon (*chuckle*). The game however is very fun, and has the chance with a few patches to be even more so.

Uhm, equip the gas mask, stand back with a bow, and she's dead in 5 min or less.. faster if you got a load of spells..

This game is called Dungeon Lords, I think I spent about 10-15 percent of the playing time in a dungeon, pathetic !!
Running to Arindale and being attacked by 5 wolf pups, running to Forbidden Lands and being attacked by 10 wolf juveniles, running to Lake Dire and being attacked by 15 wolf young adults ........... <substitute any critter for wolf in above example> BORING !!!
How difficult could it have been to give the character the ability to create a campfire? I mean, come on. I played firstr time through as a fighter, as a mage its a game stopper for me. A mage can cast a fireball yet cant figure out the concept of a campfire? What is this Survivor?
I could on and on, but its too depressing

For me it is the quest log. Nowhere in there does it tell me I have to go to Bolen Fields and talk to Lord "dude what's his name" to get the quest that ultimately gets me through the stupid wall to the forbidden lands. I'm supposed to remember some vague reference in a conversation with a barmaid in Fargrove 20 hours later into the game? Stupid.
If it weren't for this website, I'd still be unable to get to the Forbidden Lands.

It is definetly that the game is incomplete and not polished. I would really really enjoy this game much more if it was complete and tested.

Definitely agree.
Can someone tell me of a more useless Quest Log / Journal in a game? Heck - the 'objectives' screen in most FPS are better.
I got a sword a long time ago, and then had to return to Arindale because I can't remember what was said ... same for Bolen Fields, and then that mage in Skuldoon, and so on ...

Basically the entire outdoor area of the game is the worst part for me. I haven't explored the entire map (75%) but so far everything is trees, grass, water, period...There is no terrain changes at all...Looks like they just placed the same ground texture for the entire game throughout. There is also virtually no population...The only mobs in the entire game are spawned types basically. There should be mobs wandering around through paths and hiding out in encampments etc. On the whole the entire world feels empty and desolate.
Dungeons on the other hand I feel are very well laid out. They are interesting to plow through and there seems to be quite a bit of scripted content to keep it interesting throughout as well as boss fights at appropriate intervals.

YEAH!!
The game is ending for me here if i cant figure out how to fly over the pool. (help about that is welcome !)
This is absolutly not my kind of stuff.I never played donkey kong or that.
Once stopped playing a part of Ultima (cant remember which) cause my warrior didnt manage to hop from stone to stone in a lake ........
And in Arx Fatalis it was the same ... hoping from pillar to pillar like an acrobat...grrrrrr....stopped that too...
Maybe its my mouse. It is old and rusty...:-)....or the greasy mousepad....or maybe iam too slow....
Now i have to figure out how the game stores the players location in the savegames....hhhrrrmmppfff.......
Zeb....(angry)
There are absolutly no side quests. Just main quest or quest for class and nothing more. I think that is why, you can reach a class when you haven' got the nessesery skill points. What a great game could this be with all the side quests and working plain doors in fargrove.

my biggest problem with the disarm traps skill is that at 99%, the timer moves soo slowly. its almost a punishment. at 99%, the chest should pop right open. that would motivate me to raise the skill way up early in the game. as it is, i try to keep it just at the trap level with 40-65% success so the timer will move quicker.

the part i dislike about the game is what counts as blocking. I can walk backwards through a gass trap in the Naga Temple and not get poisoned. But when a Fire Drake misses me when i am blocking, and hits the ground near me i take the full dammage including being set on fire.

The worst part of the game is you have to be at least 20% Fighter... no pure mages or pure archers in this game. Since a pure mage is so hard they should of had a wandering wizard which would sell half a dozen of the level_1 and level_2 spellbooks for arcane magic and nether magic at a discount price.
Perhaps this will get fixed in an upcoming patch.

For me, I usually play a thief-type character. This is because I'm lousy at fighting...especially when there are numerous keys to push.
I can't master the fighting techniques. That's my problem, and not the fault to DL.
But I wish there were more for a thief to do than open chests...I restarted as a fighter, and that character can open chests just as easily as my thief character could.
It seems like, eventually, every character you create is basically the same.
And I don't seem to have even a single friend in the game. Just about the only folks who'll even talk to me are the ones who want something from me..or want me to spend my money with them...or guards telling me to get lost...or questgivers...
...if I wanted Real Life, geez, I'd go outside... :)
all this game is a big joke.

The stupid, stupid, STUPID, jumping puzzle in Shadow Ruins. The one in the stupid acid pool. Yeah I hate that puzzle too. It's a random timed jumping puzzle that's fooked up. All that thing did was make me mad. Normally I put jump on my mouse but in DL you can't change the mouse setting like you can with the keyboard.
The worst part of the game for me is all the missing side dungeons and the lack of variety in the Outside areas... there's not even a cave to explore let alone a side dungeon. All the outside areas look the same except the swamps and there's not much variation between areas. I looked forward to exploring the Battlefields Of The Dead but it was just a bunch of trees and grass like the rest. I thought the Harrow Ruins would be a dungeon to explore. What Southern Boulders? Looks like lumpy grassy hills to me. Vale Of Ruin should be called Potholes Of Doom. I thought The Forbidden Lands at least would have a different landscape with more rocks, less trees, dead shrubs and strange caves. Oh well..... :/

100% Ditto here. ... the outside terrain (where you spend 90% of your time) is completely pointless. I mean, I thought walking in MORROWIND was a pain, but at least ther was something new to look at all the time! In dungeon lords it's completely pointless.
To top it off, the moon bridge locations are very often so far away from meaningful locations that all it does is compound the walking time.
Remove the pointless walking and the game's playing time drops 50% or more. .... not my idea of "fun". :p

This has been posted by me and several other posters. This puzzle is NOT random the first time the platforms lower and the come back up. They come back up in the sequence needed to jump across the first time. If you miss the first time just exit back TWO shadow gates and come back. The platforms will be reset and once again try on the very first time they come up. Its this attention to detail that most players of this game seem to have that results in them saying that this puzzle is broken when some simple observation would reveal the key.
On topic though the worst part of the game is the combat system. Enemies able to lock on you and wildly circle you while you try to spin and keep on target.

There is a moonbridge near Skuldoon and Talendor is a ruined castle as several NPC's in the game mention.
