Many here know that while I like this game, I have a particular pet peeve with the Journal. I have been wading through interviews and previews for quotes for my review, and found this beauty on RPGDot:

RPGDot: As for gameplay and interface: Is there an automap, a journal and a quest book? Are there multiple choice dialogues?
DW Bradley: Yes, of course! Dungeon Lords is very involved story-wise, and is a fairly massive world, it would be a crime to expect anyone to keep up with everything without these kinds of helpful features. If by "multiple choice dialogs" you are asking whether there is game branching based upon player's choice of response to dialog, then yes, absolutely…
... obviously some major things changed since 2003-06-27 ...

Either he bit off more than he could chew or there was some major procrastination happening during this project. The last thing we need is to be lied to with a bunch of cover-ups from his work staff.

my my, isn't that an amusing quote? i feel even more like i got straight-shunted right in the face by this game... not that i don't like it to a degree, its just so incomplete. i mean come on, half the spells listed in the manual aren't even in the game. "of course! it would be a crime to make this big fat list of magic and then not even include them in the release even tho they are in the manual and listed as an attraction on the box!"

har har har, hope you enjoy my money.

Yes, please Im enjoying your money...
May I have more ?...

Ha ha ha... Sorry, I couldn't resist...

But I was looking at some Old Pics of the game...
Fargroves MAP is in the game and Fargrove was MUCH Bigger than what we got... I think the "Mayor" of Fargrove started to sell parts of the City to fund his war ... Perhaps...

Almost ALL the older pictures look like a TOTALY different game...

Lol - funny - but the character appearances and the automap are non essential to the game. Just "helpful". The game is tons of fun without those features. Whining about them being missing is the sign of a serious mental disorder. Actually, come to think of it, 90% of the people on this board have a serious mental disorder. Never mind.

They obviously made this game like they filmed Lord of the Rings. All at once and then spilt it into threes. What is the point of labeling the doors in Fargrove if you cannot open them? Do we really need to know that this particular door is 'plain'? Of course the doors in Skuldoon are non-existant. Fun game, hope patch addresses major complaints, wish I had waited untill the next two parts are released...they will be won't they????????

Good quoting mike.
Personally from the pics in 2003 to the game we have today I would say that the game hasn't changed much, what really did surprise me is that even with the enormous feedback from the community about the problems with the demo very few things where fixed opposed to what was told to be have fixed by chuk22.

Even stranger, those fixes (alt+tab) didn't even find their way into patch 1 and supposedly we are waiting for patch 3 somewhere this year and we haven't heard any positive feedback on when exactly patch 2 is coming.

After having experienced Dreamcatcher and D.W. Bradleys View of what makes a good and complete game I have found out that I will never buy another game from them nor I will recommend anyone to do so.

Come to think of it, the game itself is nonessential to the game, it was enough with the game box and the wonderfull map that came with it. The manual has nice pics and some stats so you should be able to ROLEPLAY the game it is supposed to.

Battlecruiser 9000 and Ultima 9 were playable all the way through upon release, but do you really want to play a half-assed game all the way through?

With Dungeon Lords, wouldn't you rather have all the missing spells, quests, NPCs and so forth in the game instead? Personally, I don't care about the character customization but to put an automap in and then take it out at the last minute is fishy and on top of that, they tell us that no automap was intended when it clearly was.

The character customization and automap are not the only missing elements in this game. To me, it seems like they only focused on one bustling city and shortchanged the rest.

Shortchanged is the word of the day. Shortchanged. Shortchanged. Now say it 3 times fast.

Here's another one I really like:

20.06.2004
D.W. Bradley: "Multiplayer cooperative is a delicious element for Dungeon Lords, it's great fun to play with friends, very addicting. Of course, it's a perfect single-player game as well, but multiplayer makes the experience, well, different. I certainly recommend everyone try to play at least some multiplayer, even if they are a dedicated "single-player". The game supports up to 8 players via LAN or Internet. For those who just can't resist the temptation for test their mettle against other players, there is also a special deathmatch player vs. player mode. However, because you can import your evolved single-player character hero into your multiplayer sessions, be advised that death can have a price. Also of note is the fact that Dungeon Lords continually monitors the relative strength of the multiplayer party, and enemies and their number are balanced dynamically... "

In that case they should've just put thier editing tools on the CD instead of the game with a 'Dungeon Lords do it yourself kit' manual in the box. :p

yep we all twisted like the jonts the developement team, dreamstinker, and HP were all smoking when they started advertising this game... cause they forgot half the shizit they talked about... and what they didn't forget they totally goobered... Fun combat??? Play a straight caster and I bet you spend all your time running , looking for that environmental exploit to hide behind...

Anyone else find it amusing to let lose the troll in Fargrove, hide behind the fortune teller's tent and light him up with a million arrows? Like the troll couldn't smash the tents to shreds...

I played about as much of a 'pure mage' as I could - I took no real 'fighter' classes ... Mage / Adept / Enchantress / Sorcerer / Wizard - and my experience was pretty typical for a RPG - I was running around dying and reloading early in the game, but later I wouldn't even stop running down the trail when a group of wolves/spiders/whatever came my way.

yeah pretty lame @ss mage if you ask me even for rpg standards... what the **** is shreiking star supposed to do cause I found it does no damage at all ... no matter your level or skill level... and I have my mage skill to 6 and thanks to 2 trolls... I am already at level 13

or what about the dungeon near the temple in Fargrove? that big headless brute... just climb up and shot down with arrows and what few spells you can cast...

the other thing about mages I found totally screwed no matter how much time I spend resting at an inn my magic never replenishes... and this is after patch 1.1 ...

They broke the shrieking star spell in 1.1 so it does no damage now HAHA what testing of patch when beginning mage now has no spells at all...

camping should give instant all spells back, I mean If I wanted all my spells back I could rest for 20 days..... and since no quests are time based... why not just make them act as a usable thaqt instantly restores all spels/health and not have to have other party member a centimeter from you... My mage is fighting meele 90% of the time.... Hmmm mage yeah sure... Since Meele is so much easier once you get a good weapon it become fight all but boss with meele then pound boss with spells then meele if he is still alive...
