The install, play splash screen pops up but that is all. If I click "Install" the hour glass spins by the cursor for a few seconds then nothing.

I am playing on a dell dimensions 4400, 1 gig of ram, 64meg nvidia g-force, 2.ghz, os= windows 2003 server. Anything I should try?

Turn off your Antivirus
Upgrade your videocard driver to the most recent from www.nvidia.com

I have the up to date video drivers but M AV 8.0i is on I will try that when I get home. Not an issue with W2K3 though?

Naah I dont think it has to do with Windows 2003, its most likely your AV, or perhaps another settings, we shall see when you tried without the AV tools running.

I stopped all McAfee services and it still does not get past the install initial splash screen.

I am install as Administrator as well so that should be good.

Do you have any cdrom emulators installed?
Do you have the Retail or Gold edition?
Is your videocard a MX400/440? (there are bug with those cards (from nVIDIA side nothing the game devs can do about it, doesnt affect everyone tho)

If you have had a failed install you might need to :
1: uninstall ERT
2. download and run http://enigma.tidesofwar.net/uploads/files/StarforceClean.exe
3: reboot
4: turn off your AV and Windows' Registry protection (if Win2003 has such (WinXP SP2 has))
5: install ERT
6: reboot
7: try game
8 if it failes try run http://enigma.tidesofwar.net/uploads/files/ert_fix.exe (applies to Retail only not sure if it works for Gold aswell)
9: report back

Ps, you can also try install from a different CD drive if you have an extra.

I do not know what a cdrom eliminator is.... but probably do not have it.
I tried installing from another rom drive and that did not work.
Geforce4 ti 4400.
Gold edition.... is that an add on pack or is it the full game?

I never got past the splash screen so I bet it never got so far as to need to be uninstalled but will try the suggestions you have below.

A CDRom emulator is like Nero Disk Emuluator, Daemon Tools, Alc120% etc (anything that can emualte a CDRom running from a harddisk).
Your videocard is suffient enough.
Gold Ed. is a full copy. not an addon.
If you didnt even mange to install run atleast the STF removal tool.

There seemed to be something wrong with the server. It would not allow me to install ANY software on it. It was a QA server so I formated the box and started over. The only thing on the box now is a high in scanner and game.

When I try to run the game now.... It did install without a hitch... It will not start it pops up with a memory error.

"Please wait checking disk" that completes and that windows disappears.

"Application Error"
The instruction at 0x00760899 referenced memory at 0x0000.... The memory could not be read.

I also got at one point after testing or checking the system that it wanted a key entered. I looked all through the box and manual and there is no key code. I bought this at Fry's, so it could not have been hot, but maybe someone brought it back and took the code if it really needed one?

It has been over a week since I purchased the game... Hope I get to play it soon. Part was I got real busy at work and did not have time to load it once the server was rebuilt.... sorry for rambling.... :)

Make sure you have WIndows Reg Protection off while installing the game.
Make sure your AV tool is off while installing and starting the game
Make sure you have the latest driver for your sound and video card
The keycode can be found on either this forum, on DC's FAQ/Support or http://enigma.tidesofwar.net

We can make your game work :)

I'm not exactly sure where or what you are talking about with the "WIndows Reg Protection off " ... any detail on that would be cool.

I now seem to get a Failed to identify the disc in the drive. Insert a licensed disc.

Are you sure my disk is not bad or something... i see no scratches in it.

not all cdrom drives are compatible with StarForce3.
If you have another drive try with that (try in another computer) just to make sure the disk isnt sour :)

I forgot where the reg protection thing is located in windows, I will check next time i see windows infront of me (running linux here) but it is somewhere in control panel -> system

Thanks for all the help but I returned the game. Fry's was very good about the return. I'm just not meant for games I guess.

Thanks again

Just a further FYI, I just relized, after I reinstalled the OS I could succesfully install the game but received the memory error afterwards along with the disk error,,,, I neglected to reinstall the new video driver after the OS reinstall.... But now I would be to embarrassed to go back to the store and buy the game back again, and upset if I bought it again brought it home and still could not get it to run and had to try and bring it back again... :)
