Argh. I had an MSI Geforce Ti4200 with 64M of memory...one of my hard drives performed autocannibalism, and it was necessary to reinstall Windows. After a while, I installed a new video card to play Deus Ex 2, so now I have a BFG Geforce FX 5500 with 256M memory...and I finally got around to reinstalling Painkiller, figuring it was going to be pretty as heck with all the new video memory to play with.

Now I've apparently got Yog-Sothoth covering the graveyard area on the first level. I start the game, commercials all play fine, the movies all play fine, the game itself plays fine, there's just this opaque grey blob covering the area where the headstones are, where the skull guys pop up. I can walk through it, they can walk through it, I can shoot through it, it doesn't affect the game in any way other than that I can't see anything below about waist height. It doesn't change shape, it doesn't change texture when you walk into it. I've got the most current drivers for everything, I just reinstalled Directx 9.0c, Dxdiag (attached) says that all the tests are fine.

I've tried turning off ALL the graphics settings (half expecting it to turn into Nethack...) and Yog-Sothoth is still there.

On the bright side, the game does play considerably smoother, and when I haven't turned everything off, it does look all kinds of pretty, except for this one idiosyncracy.

Someone straighten me, 'cause I'm bent.

What you are seeing is supposed to be there, though when I play the game, although I can see the fog, and it is opaque from a distance, I can see through it when I'm standing in it.

I use an ATI Radeon 9600XT which has 256MB.

Same for me, this is just fog, I canīt see through it until Iīm close enough.
Iīm using a 256 Mb GeforceFX 5700 LE.

Are you sure you arenīt just seeing a normal fog?
