I cannot play Multiplayer->LAN :(
"Error Initializing Network!"
What can I do?
Greetings
Edit: I have OnBoardLAN and a Realtek Ethernet Card. Does this matter?

I havent heard of any hardware problems yet but I saw a thread somewhere that a site was compiling a list of hardware and non hardware related issues to the game. Check out this page and see if it gives you any answers. I will try and find that link and see if I can get you a good answer.

Hope this helps.

Do you have ZoneAlarm or another firewall? Make sure the IP you're trying to connect with/to is in your "safe zone" settings.

Ok well the post now below yours has the same question and heres the link I wrote about earlier
http://www.terra-hosting.net/dlbugs/
Look at the known bugs and if yours isnt listed add it so that the list becomes more complete.
I will attempt this weekend to go through the known bugs, list and add whatever fixes there are if any.

A friend had the same problem, he had Win Xp SP2 and the integrated firewall has blocked Dungeon Lords. Have you also Xp with Servicepack 2?

Ok, I had the same problem, however. All I did was just keep on hitting LAN then get the error, then I hit enter to return to the main screen, I hit LAN again and continued the step till finally it worked.
I guess smacking it over and over again worked out the kinks.
It could be the firewall. I have xp sp2 firewall and when i ran D Lords it asked me if i wanted to keep blocking it and i picked no and it has worked ever since.

Nvm. It still won't work, all smacking it does is remove the annyoing error from up top.
Also, I don't have SP2 installed. But I will try it.

I am still trying to get DLords 1.3 to talk to multiple systems on my LAN,
however I'll pass along this little tidbit.
I do not know if this is causing your specific problem, but I've found that I received this error if the DirectPlay8 networking DLL (dpnet.dll) was not registered.
I would suggest running DXDiag, and checking the networking tab.
If you have any errors next to the DirectPlay8 entries, you will need to make
sure the file exisits, and is registered.
This file should be in the C:\windows\system32 folder. Note that if you are
using NT or Win2K, this will be C:\Winnt\System32 instead
Next, try registering the file:
If you are using XP, the easiest way is to right-click on the file
and select open with
When the list comes up, select browse
Look for C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe
Click on Open
Click on OK
You should see a message stating that "DLLRegisterServer in C:\Windows\System32\dpnet.dll succeeded".
Now, re-check the networking tab in DXDiag. You should now see that
the DirectPlay8 entries are no longer in error.

Just a quick status update -
Mine works now too - turns out one system had a corrupt directPlay
install - had to re-install OS, re-apply all updates.
Ran 2 player LAN session yesterday for several hours. Networking works like a dream - Have not had a single crash.
Just wish I knew what caused the corruption. I have had this issue once before with directplay - and had to resort to the same solution.
