Battlecruiser Development Woes
Problems with publisher delay the game's release.
by Patrick Klepek, 06/03/2005

3000AD president Derek Smart never ceases to continue being ambitious with his Battlecruiser series, but recent bumps in the road with publisher Dreamcatcher have proved problematic for the upcoming installment, Universal Combat: A World Apart.
On the game's official message board, Smart talked about the continuing legal battles with their former publisher. Smart is currently negotiating with other companies interesting in bringing Universal Combat: A World Apart to the retail market, while simultaneously revealing Battlecruiser Millennium Gold and Universal Combat agreements with Dreamcatcher have been terminated, with a cease and desist order recently being served to their former publisher.

Smart appears more confident about his chances this time. "Either way, this time around - unlike the fiasco over UC which cost me several thousands of lost earnings and them getting away with merely a slap on the wrist - I am fully prepared to see this to the very - bitter - end as I don't believe that Dreamcatcher is going to be in business much longer," he said.

Even though Universal Combat: A World Apart won't appear on retail shelves for a little while yet, 3000AD is working on server side preparations with e-commerce partners like Trymedia and BMT Micro. The downloadable version is expected in the "coming weeks."

I actually kind of hope Derek Smart's new game takes off and does well this time if not to just show Dreamcatcher management how inept they are.
