For me, the issue with Dungeon Lords started a couple days ago. I got the game, installed it and looked forward to spend a lot of hours playing it. However, after a few hours spent in Fargrove I decided to look for some answers, as not everything concerning the game itself seemed to be working perfectly. The very first thing that surprised me was inability to customize my character, even though several other sources mentioned this ability. Well, maybe something went wrong with my copy, I thought. The next step was customizing my controls. Action keys, battle & movement keys, even an automap key. Cool.
However, few minutes later I realized that there is something seriously wrong with my copy... The automap feature did not work as well... Got myself the patch... 1.1... No change at all... Well... weird... but my desire to play was stronger... Imagine my anger and disappointment when I left Fargrove, turned right and after a few steps I got stuck "between a wall". The question is how can a person get stuck between a wall (there are usually at least 2 things necessary if you want to get stuck "between" something). This only convinced me that there is seriously something wrong with the game even after being patched.
So I visited this forum to seek answers for my questions and found basically 2 types of people - the first group being the disappointed ones who got themselves the game, expected something more and want to have it. The other group are basically people saying "to **** with details like automap or character customization, enjoy the game without it".
In my opinion, if you spend YOUR money on a product, you want to get the best of it. DL is very very far from the word "best", morover, if a game lacks features that were promised and even "included" in the game (like key for automap and buttons for customization) there is a serious problem. People who bought this game would expect at least something like "sorry guys, our fault, but we're doing our best to fix it ASAP" and definitely not comments like "f*** character customization/automap, we don't need it anyway, so why do you complain?".
Imagine yourself buying a fancy convertible car, but if you try to take the roof down nothing happens, windows are scratched, the steering wheel gets jammed and your brand new hi-tech GPS shows only time, outer temperature and north. What would you do? I would definitely return the car and send the dealer to ****.
So on behalf of all disappointed DL players - PLEASE fix it and give us what you promised and what we all deserve if we bought the game - A GAME TO BE REMEMBERED FOR A LONG TIME WITH ALL THE FEATURES THAT WERE PROMISED AND WITH NO BUGS.
Thank you

I have said before I see 5 types:
1. Those who are here purely to stir up trouble and incite flaming ... maybe they never played the demo, maybe they're pirates, who knows, they aren't here for anything productive.
2. Those who want *their* stuff fixed *now* and will rant and screem and throw tantrums and threaten lawsuits and whatever else to get their way. To them, any positive comment is either a 'fanboi' or DC employee.
3. Those who acknowledge all of the issues, and want them all fixed, but are managing to enjoy it anyway.
4. Those who see problems in a limited sense, but think the game is awesome!
5. Those who see rays of sunlight and hear angelic choirs just looking at the game box and can't imagine any better game that might possibly exist.
I tend to see myself as a '3'.
By the way - if you only got the game a couple of days ago, there were already at least 8 - 10 reviews online that would have answered all of those questions for you ... did you not check it out before buying? Caveat emptor! Seriously - check out Metacritic (http://www.metacritic.com) or GameRankings (http://www.gamerankings.com) for aggregate scores for game, and a convenient way to look at reviews from multiple sites. I do it all the time ... unless I buy a game on 'day of release' - like this one.

well, actually I got the game earlier, but I was kinda busy so I only managed to install and try it recently.
I have my own cathegory - definitely not satisfied with all the bugs and other issues, but still believing that future patches will fix it to make it a great and even more enjoyable game than it is now (I admit I enjoy it a lot, but if U pay for something you expect to get it) ;)
hopefully they won't let us wait too long

I have my own cathegory - How is that different than a '3'? You have come here and eloquently and respectfully stated your disappointment and dissatisfaction and hope for a resolution ...

That's my category. I have high hopes for the game after it is fixed but I will not continue to play it at all in its current state. I don't want to get so far and then have to start over due to incompatible character saves...on top of spoiling the storyline (if there is one). Having it sit on my shelf isn't necessarily "having fun with it". ;)

that's it... that's our category... impatiently waiting for the game to be fixed and only then can we start again with a new (and hopefully customized according to our own imagination) character and enjoy a bug-free version ;-)

That's what I'm doing - I have Restricted Area [PC] and Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones [GBA] cooking right now, and working on reviews of Fate [PC] and Untold Legends [PSP], so for me it is OK to have a bit of a break ... I'll wait until 1.3 to start a new Mage.

mine says: Restricted area - GTA: San Andreas in progress - please try again next week after U finish your work ;)
I fit with the 3s. I know the game will be great when all of the patches are done and all of the features that are promised in the manual are implemented. I really like the game so far, but I am only playing iin the theatre right now.

well I would consider myself a three although apparently Mike would prob put me at 2...
Just the fact remains they lied to sell a product which is not right by any means in any form of business. It isn't good for the consumer, business, or anything attached to the game. And see this as the next evolution in the gaming world that should be stopped before it even starts.
I as well have other to keep myself busy... so I'll wait patiently before I spend too much time being aggravated by the game...
I do still play it... but after restarting, I have highest spawn right/ easiest monsters and just hanging out in the sewers/Theater massing experience killing all the spawned creatures...saving xp for later use.
I have notice tho in doing this... when you are in the equipment screen, monsters still spawn like they are time released (every "x" seconds "y" monsters are created of "z" type.) So spend an hour in equip screen come back out be ready for a huge horde of stuff to come at you... And I think this might be the cause of the memory leak... as I have monsters stuck in the walls... I can hear em, but never see them.

How are you liking Restricted Area? My friend bought it and the graphics look nice but the animation is kind of wonky. It's almost like playing that Diablo ripff that Sierra made a while back. I can't think of the name of it. It was like a Samurai Diablo. I wasn't that impressed with the way RA played from what I saw.

type # 6:
The kind that go out and buy a game, and actually expect it to, oh I don't know LOAD maybe?
If I wanted an icon on my desktop that did absolutely nothing, I would have made my own.
Speaking as a developer (of programs for various companies), if I ever released something that simply did nothing I doubt I would ever be able to deal with that client again.
I recognise that there a time, material and other (likely internal to the company) issues that are holding them back, but that is hardly an excuse for thier silence. Or selling a product through false claims.
These issues exist.
They are factual.
They are relevant.
At the very least (ignoring the developers entiely for the moment) the marketing department has lied, and should be terminated. The game should be repaired or recalled. And those who were tricked into buying it should be compensated (not necessarily with money).

I am currently playing Restricted Area.
It is pretty much "Diablow 2", but with guns.
And, with even less of a story, depth, and so many other things.
It is fine for a quick "let's go frag some mutants" game, but is not really worth investing more than spare moments upon.
...at least that is my personal opinion.
Fun...but, not really fun.

To Shock: Throne of Darkness is the game you're thinking of.
To Honorbound: I agree about R.A., it's totally tedious, I can only play for about 20 minutes, then my mind starts to go to pudding.

heh Throne of Darkness :D
I finished it couple of times and it remains one of my top 10 games. I wish we had more games like that... and the item customization - simply perfect...
Pray for Sierra giving us a sequel =)

Fun...but, not really fun.
I'm also playing Restricted Area ... the 'death penalty' thing (where you cannot reload games) was annoying early on, but now that I'm more powerful even that tension is gone ... what does it say when your favorite thing is watching your character use Telekinesis to grab items dropped all around the room ... oh, and the flaming barrel explosions are well done.
