View Full Version : F.E.A.R questions for those that may know more than the trailer offers.

At first I had passed this game off as being another squad based tactical shooter that had followed in the footsteps of many anti terrorist type games, but that now appears to have been a gross misjudgement based on my rather quick and misguided reading of one of the overviews I'd read.
The F.E.A.R website did offer a bit more detail, but not much, though the trailer and awards seem to be rather engrossing.
Can anyone tell me more than is offered on the website in the way of storyline details and what the significance of the little girl they show is?
CH, you seem to know a bit about this game, can you give me any info on it, or do you know of any forums discussing it?
I don't know why, but my imagination tells me what you're fighting has nothing to do with the paramilitary force they speak of, and instead alien lifeforms that have somehow entered human bodies and now control them, much like Doom 3, but aliens, rather than something from He11.
Am I way off mark on this, or does anyone even know? I was assuming I would like Stalker better, but now I'm not too sure.

I'm wondering more about this game as well. I remember way back when it was first announced, and when the trailer came around. Have you seen the multiplayer video? Just pure amazing, I was awed the first time around when I saw it. Seeing a rocket just beat by at full speed (None of the lame slow moving rockets), just blowing a guy to chunks, blood splashing in all directions. Pure genius.
I really have my eyes on this game, and I too was wondering about the little girl. She pops around a bunch... My guess is she died in the facility after an experiment and is coming back for revenge. Don't know.

...to Worth Playing, and I really don't like files that DL without giving you any clue as the progress rate.
I saw a link to it on this cool German site, which has a forum talking about F.E.A.R, but not much to read so far it seems.
Speaking of little girls though, I couldn't help but freak on the avatar DICKER (MORE THICKLY translated to English) uses on this site, check it out.

The Avatar? It's from the movie The Grudge.
Just a moment...
EDIT: I can't find a good link to the MP movie, you may have to check other sites to it. I can't even remember where I got it, was awhile but not too long ago.
I tried uploading it, with no luck.

Frag,
I have 2 downloads for this game. The 1st is a teaser trailer of 1:37 minutes. The other is an interview with a C Miller (one of the developers) 7:30 minutes. The second vid came out March 15 2005.
He talks about the game being a Supernatural Horror with High Action game play.
This link talks about it some:
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/fear/595107p1.html
I will try and find a link to the interview. I am seriously looking forward to this game. The more I see the better it gets. I haven't found any forums for it yet, but will keep looking.

I just downloaded the multiplayer trailer, it took me less than 5 minutes. I am on DSL cable.
Looks like I will be playing some multiplayer on this game.

...the MP trailer again. For some reason it was very slow to gather file info, and wouldn't give me a flow rate, it could be due to lots of people watching it.
I couldn't remember the name of the movie that the girl in the avatar was in, but I've seen it, and it's pretty good.

I think monolith has been very upfront concerning the plot in that they aren't giving much away.
I for one, think FEAR could be game of the year, or maybe cod2, but I'm a fan of monolith's except for the AvP series, so no matter what the plot is, they will deliver a fantastic game.

...movie that girl is from. I've seen both The Ring (American version), and The Grudge. The girl in The Grudge is definately Japanese, and you don't see her with that kind of background shown in the avatar, which is a livingroom or bedroom in a larger house.
The scenes with the girl in The Grudge are done in much more cramped quarters, and the shocking stuff at the end is of her crawling down some stairs. You'd no doubt see the stairs in the background, or a wall close behind her, if that were from The Grudge. She's also mostly crawling and lunging, not standing and staring like that.
Also, if you look at this picture of the girl from The Grudge, you can see she doesn't look anything like Daveigh Chase from The Ring, whom does indeed have the same shape of face, and facial features of the girl in that avatar.

...subject matter can compete with the horror genre right now, which seems to be at an all time peak. There's many reasons some peope are put off by war games right now, some of which have much to do with angst about the US involvement in Iraq, which I'm not at all against, I just think things like that could be a factor in what many want to entertain themselves with lately.

Frag,
I agree with the fact that the horror/ Sci-Fi genre games are hot right now. There are so many war games out there that the market seems to be flooded with them.
With war games you can only use known weapons with known reactions to the weapons. In horror/ Sci-fi games the only thing slowing down the creation of weapons is technology and imagination.
I think that the developers are having a great time with both to bring this game to the public.

Have you joined this beta testing team, and do you have to be on a Fileplanet paid subcsription to participate?
What exactly does it entail? Do you just rate some game related stuff that's sent to you via email, or do you actually get to play the game?
If you do get to play it, there's got to be a long waiting line/queue to deal with wouldn't there?
One of the main reasons I'm concerned about all this, is I really don't like getting lots of email, especially if I don't even know for sure I'll like the game. Also, I've just switched back to an antivirus I used to use, that isn't quite as thorough as the Avast I was using. Avast was causing me lots of stress having to constantly click the program update and get the def stamp to load, just to get on and stay on the net.

BTW, while I agree with you that horror, especially sci-fi horror is likely more popular due to lending to our imaginations and suspense much better, I think it's a shame that the war game genre has been sullied by overchoice, and a lot of poorly written games.
I still get that cringe of the real feeling of what war must be like when I play a good war game, and I often find myself trying to imagine what it must have been like, and is like now, for our veterans to have had to endure it.
I have a calander on the inside of my apt door, hung just above the knob, so I see it everytime I leave my apt, that is from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. They highlight one highly decorated active duty officer, and one fallen officer on each month's calender. This month's calender picture is of the WWII Memorial, in Washington DC. It's a very humbling site to look at, even just in a picture, and I can't help but think of all those that died fighting for freedom, not just ours but everyone's, every time I look at it.
My heart goes out to our troops, and always will.

My husband is a disabled veteren (Air Force Security Police). That is why I am retired at 44 yrs. I stay home to help care for him.
So my heart goes out to those who are in the military as well as law enforcement.
As for the game. I just filled out the information ask for in the link, it went to another page that ask for you computer specs. I received a game key code and started to download the game.
I am actually playing a demo like version of the multiplayer part of the game. Talk about the enjoyment!! There is a forum that you can read.

And no, you don't have to be a subscriber to fileplanet to join the Beta testing. They opened it to the public yesterday afternoon sometime.
Have fun

Now that I recall, this is definately one of the main reasons I stopped playing online.
I used to use GameSpy pretty much exclusively for online play, but have had numerous problems with logging in. I end up having to get the password sent to me, and often times the login page will not recognize it. When I finally get the login wizard on the actual game launch window to recognize it, I cannot create a new profile. When it takes me to the page to set up the new profile, it always says the new nickname and/or password chosen does not match the email address.
Do you have an email address I can contact GameSpy at? I really can't stand their account management software, it's reason enough to try another game service IMO.
I don't know at this point whether I successfully registered for the F.E.A.R beta testing or not. After filling out the form, I was taken directly to a GameSpy login page, with no confirmation of being signed up.

Right after I registared for the beta the next page included a key number. They also emailed me the number so I could use it to start the game.
have had problems logging on to the Forum for the beta testers. That may be due to the amount of people trying to join.
Let me see what I can do. Hopefully it will work out.
By the By: you can find me on other sites as Fubar. With the same sig. My husband and I are working on an avatar.
