View Full Version : You Have Officially Lost Me

I've been one of the more stalwart supporters of this game on these forums, and I'm sorry to say, Dreamcatcher has lost me. I've completely lost interest in the game, through not playing due to lack of a patch, and the patch taking longer to come out than first expected. Granted, programming isn't easy, but I'm assuming all the programmers working on this game are professionals. Although evidently that assumption could quite possibly be wrong. Review after review that I have read has stated this game was released in beta. I used to not care, now however, I agree. I'm not going to tell you guys to give up on the game, because I'm honestly sorry I have, it had great potential, maybe next year when I'm bored and have nothing to play I'll come back to it, but, for now, I'm out of here.

Buh Bye. We all know you will be back to snag the patch when it's released so you can stop the drama.

The last time I played this game was when patch 1.1 came out. I downloaded the patch and tried playing again and still couldn't stomach the game. About twice a week I check for any updates that will miraculously help this game. So of course all of us that were faithful followers will "snag" the patch when and if it is released, hoping that the game will actually be what it was said to be. But what is really sad is knowing that patches won't really help this game. Besides the bugs and some missing features, there still is the DLs world that is without furniture and NPCs. I think most of you will agree with me that the DEVs won't add anthing in this apartment. It would simply take to long, and the team has far left the drawing board. Even with a customized character and an auto map, the game would still be a huge let down to a large sum of us. Heres to the modders I guess.

Shock. stop being a dick ok? i mean you make your comments about me starting a thread every 5 minutes but you feel the need to jump on each and every thread and make your comments... what a **** hypocrit...

No hypercrit, just fed up by n00bs, who cant use one thread to Free there hearts from the pain that has been caused to them by Dreamcatcher.

I mean, complains wont help. Suggestions do, bug reporting does.

I don't start new threads just to say the same thing over and over.
I will stop being a dick but some of you deserve it for going on and on when you know they are still working on the patch. Do you realize how many areas they have to make maps for just for the automap? They probably have to reprogram the whole quest log because it just totally sucks. They are having to do 3D modelling to get the character customizations fixed. You can't do all that in just 2 or 3 weeks. Not when you have maybe 5 people on the whole project working on it. Heck, DW may be programming this stuff himself. Who knows? Be realistic.

Oh i hear you on the promised patch thing,,,, BUT we were told the same thing prior to update 1.1.... did they fix the things we were complaining about? NOPE so maybe we just need to make sure they hear us? And again... you dont have to read the Thread... but obviously you feel the NEED to post some PMS induced comment about the author.

You summed it all up perfectly... i mean that is OUR job right? they release the crap and instead of us complaining we should help em? Its attitudes like that that make it even more important for us realists to vent. Because as long as people like you that give the developers/publishers the ability to do it, What will stop the next company from doing the same thing with the DC example of "our fans will help us fix it" attitude. I know that at times i go WAY off base in my anger but this is a valid result that could happen yes???

Suggestions and ways to improve a product are viewed upon by everyone favorably. Just venting to satisfy one's own uncontrollable emotions is very selfish and does not make for a fun forum in my own subjective view and I am guessing that this is related to why many of those venting-for-a-selfish-reason-of-uncontrollable-emotions posts are moved.

All I know is that they TELL me they're working on a "patch". They have said so many things that are blatantly not true, I tend to believe it when I see it from these turkeys.

Do you realize how many areas they have to make maps for just for the automap?

Yes. Yes I do.

I also realize they had years to address this issue BEFORE releasing an unfinished game.

They probably have to reprogram the whole quest log because it just totally sucks.

No kiddin', Sherlock.

They are having to do 3D modelling to get the character customizations fixed. You can't do all that in just 2 or 3 weeks.

Or 4 or 5 years for that matter. Apparently what they CAN do is release a retail version of a demo. They seem to be very good at doing that.

All I ever wanted was for the game to come out of the box they way they PROMISED it would. What's so unrealistic about that?

"All I ever wanted was for the game to come out of the box they way they PROMISED it would. What's so unrealistic about that?"

That's not unrealistic or unreasonable in my view and should be brought up on this portion of the forum. Hypothetically speaking if it is stated over and over and over and over and over or if it is not stated in a reasonable manner from one human being to another my view changes, though.

Indeed! I agree with this.

You can give them all kinds of excuses...money,time,dev.
But the simple plain obvious fact is they released this a wreck. And the more complain, the less buy,and hopefully one day this method will change companies business practices,or at least make the ones that are bad just go outta business.

There are many privately done mods with no finacial support that come out better than this...with i say it again...NO MONEY. So enough with the small company woe thing. This game has easiily more than acceptable bugs and flaws, besides the blatant misrepresentation of the game.

The first patch they released probably broke more stuff than it fixed. Thats not a step in the right direction. Banning and deleting public forum stuff was another very bad mistake. I read about that on EBgames and other places,so people obviously dont like these tactics. Sure they have every right to do so (though highly unethical on a PUBLIC forum) but PR wise was just plain stupid.

BF2 demo runs smooth as silk on all our PCs in the house. As does GTA SA. Yet DL runs horribly on all but the high end one,and that one still has big lags (64 3400,1.5 G of RAM). People are upset, and very rightly so.

Really? Mine runs fine for a 2 GHz Cpu and 768 Megs of RAM. Could it be the memory card that's the problem?

And it doesnt stall every time there are enemies spawning, like almost everyone elses,or EVERY review?

And there isnt water that is like valleys and mountains?

And towns actually have people and other things in them?

Everyone knows all the other stuff, too.

Must have gotten a different copy than you.
Like i said,no probs with muchg higher end games. Funny.
And that we tried it on many different ones here and a friends and same thing? Same thing at the INTEL lab even.

Wish we could have all gotten that version...

I got the same version as you, and you know it. When I say, "it runs fine," it means that sometimes it can be a bit slow, but it works fine overall, and the stalls don't bother me. The only time I would have a problem is if it were to crash on me and close the game down, but that didn't happen to me. And yes, *all* the games have the water that seems to be stuck in a high tide. And yes, a lot of things are missing, but I can put up with that.

Hmmm...so Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 run perfectly on my computer.

But the barebones version of DL stalls whenever new monsters spawn, and when entering a new area there's a HUGE loadtime.

Very, very poor design. Especially for an engine now several years old.

Hacknshoot
06-17-2005, 12:09 PM
Possibly because of the fact that the engine is old, and your computer may not understand how to run an old engine like that? In other words: It may have problems loading because if the engine is old, then the computer may have to look for compatable software to run that type. At least you get fair warning that you have a couple of new enemies about to attack. :)

If you already know it takes time to do all these things, stop expecting the patch to only take 2 or 3 weeks. Grow a brain and get out of my face, Mr. Mouth.

They had "time" to create a finished product. Use your brain and realize that this game is an unfinished piece of software that no patching will ever truly fix. Are you blowing one of the moderators or something? Because in my opinion, you should have been banned long ago.

Ok, and the new information you are providing on this within the past month IS?

With comments like that, I'm surprised that you haven't been banned. Why don't you go pump Glendrum and Hickmanj some more?
