This just in ;)

For the month of May, the PC best sellers list for the US looks like this:
1) Guild Wars - NCsoft
2) World Of Warcraft - Vivendi Universal
3) Empire Earth 2 - Vivendi Universal
4) The Sims 2 - Electronic Arts
5) The Sims 2 University Expansion Pack - Electronic Arts
6) Half-Life 2 - Vivendi Universal
7) Stronghold 2 - 2K Games
8) Guild Wars Collector's Edition - NCsoft
9) Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords - LucasArts
10) Dungeon Lords - DreamCatcher Interactive
11) Lego Star Wars - Eidos
12) Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 - Atari
13) Doom 3 - Activision
14) Rome: Total War - Activision
15) Warcraft III Battle Chest - Vivendi Universal
16) Sid Meier's Pirates! - Atari
17) The Sims Deluxe - Electronic Arts
18) Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 - Ubisoft
19) Zoo Tycoon 2 - Microsoft
20) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: Century Of Flight - Microsoft

So it is more than just one week ... I have to admit to being surprised. If it is still in the top 20 a month from now I'll be flabbergasted ... unless the patch is truly earth-shattering and has all the review sites recinding their thrashings ...

Oops ... got the info here. (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/626/626252p1.html?ui=rssFeed)

Yeah, but a lot of women play The Sims games. It's a crossover market and that's why it sells a lot.

I too am surprised about DL being top 10 not only because of the negative press on it but also because it is a detail-oriented rpg which some would consider "hard-core" (compared to Diablo). It's a very good game and I am glad it is selling so far. I'm also very happy to see Sid Meier's Pirates on there even though it's a several months old game -- that is a very good game and while it's not an rpg it's tons of fun (rare for me to say that about any non-rpg or even about most rpg's).

Pirates is a fun game. I kind'a liked the older version a bit better...

...but was happy to get an "update" with a few new bells and whistles that would run on a modern computer without the hassle of emulators, CPU slowdown tweaks and the like...

Whos pulling whos leg :D DL made tenth spot.Im guessing their were no other games that month so they put any old rubbish up there to fill the 20 spots.
Either that or txa1265 is playing a sick but funny joke ;)

P.S wonder if this will make it to the forums, seeing as they pull most of the negative posts.

Actually, Stronghold 2 has almost the same problem DL has. I bought them both within about a week of each other and SH2 was and still is in sore need of serious patching. There are features in SH2 that don't work, buttons that do nothing in certain areas. That one is kind of annoying since people say that SH1 was done really well and worked since release with small bugs that were fixed like most games. The last time they patched it they actually made multiplayer worse. Most people are lucky to finish a game on the internet, most of the time you get booted before the game even starts. Luckily the last two games I bought, GTA San Andreas and Settlers 5 both work beautifully out of the box. Now when I play a new game I am afraid it's going to be another DL or SH2.

Yeah, well "Plan 9 From Outer Space" didn't do so well at the box office when it came out. Maybe we are witnessing the birth of a legend.

I wonder if the developers are happy with the sales of Dungeon Lords so far? I'm guessing the reviews hurt the sales pretty badly. Not sure even fantastic patching can save the game from not selling up to potential..

A lot of people who don't have children probably don't realize this, but girls between ages 8 and 12 love the Sims. They're young enough that getting up, rushing off to work, and then frantically cleaning up at night before you dash to bed, don't get enough sleep and do it all over again seems like glorious fun. There is a HUGE market for this game in that age group. I always thought that was why the online version flopped -- their target market is too young for online games.

That list would mean a lot more if sales numbers were included, if it got 10th place because it sold a hundred copies...And does this include all sales or just from one location/store chain?

The numbers thing is one of those 'you have to pay a ton to get this info' sort of things ... but it is from a reputable data gathering firm, the one that does all the sales stats (NPD, I believe?), and I'm pretty sure their methods use a survey of all major and many secondary stores & chains.

that is disgusting. it means that people will just continue to release games like DL since they can still turn a buck through hype and deception.
