What is the top FPS games and out of the top FPS what do you rate as the best:
My list is as follows and no partticular order:

PainKiller + Expansion
Doom3 + Expansion
Far Cry
Half Life 2
Cronicles of Riddick Escape from Butchers Bay
Raven Shield
Unreal Tournament 2004

I also have the following but they are not so great:
Star Wars Battlefront
Medal of Honor Pasiffic Assult

Ok, I'll bite.

From the recent crop of shooters my favorites are Hλlf-Life², Doom 3, and Painkiller. Going back a little farther, I really like Serious Sam, the Quake series, Unreal and UT, Hλlf-Life, NOLF and NOLF2, Red Faction (the first one), Outlaws (extremely well done), MOH:AA (though the expansion packs sucked), RtCW, and probably a few more I'm forgetting.

An oft overlooked and unfairly maligned game is KISS Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child. KISS (the band) actually features very little in the game. It's a really solid action 'arcade' shooter very much in the vein of Serious Sam and Painkiller (and the older shooters they emulate). If you can find a copy it can usually be had for less than $5.

I am currently playing Area-51 and Beta testing F.E.A.R. Multiplayer.

I also have played Will Rock, Half-life, Unreal.

...I'd rank UT2003/2004 and COD as tied for second with both Doom3 and Far Cry.

If you want something better than Pacific Assault btw, try Call of Duty, and it's expansion United Offensive. There's a COD 2 coming too.

Even some of the older Medal of Honor stuff is better than Pacific Assault IMO. Spearhead rocks for MP, if you play online at all, but United Offensive is the best.

My first FPS was RTCW though, and although it is way too easy for me now, it's longevity is not bad, as there are numerous 3rd party SP maps for it, some are very well written too.

Timegate is 12 levels long, and Operation Vosichtig is about 6 levels. These are definately the best two 3rd party map series for RTCW.

Medal of Honor also has some very good 3rd party maps written for it, the series by Torsten Reim is my favorite, but General Cobra also has some good ones.

I think Quake has died out for more reasons than just the more slow paced and real world looking tactical shooter craze, as some have suggested.

Quake is an older game with a following of skilled players that can hang for hours with it's fast paced fingerwork required, and the eye strain that comes with. Many of them are long time PC users, that are often times employed in PC related fields and are used to being in front of the screen a lot.

Now a days, everyone and their mother's son has a PC, and there are so many games out there, skill levels of players, and genres to choose from, there just isn't as big a percentage of elitest gamers that can hang with games like Quake anymore. There may be as many skilled players of Quake as there were, but the percentages are what keeps the devs and pubs thriving against the comp.

Don't forget Undying.
With some truly unique gameplay elements at it's time, and visuals that squeezed the very last drop out of an aging Unreal engine, I still don't know why this game got such a luke warm if not cold response. One of my all time fav's. The feeling you got when you were first slashed by a howler was very cool, along with the rest of the creature attacks. Some truly immersive moments. Play it in the dark...as they say.

1. Original Painkiller (since i am playing it 13 months, at least i've done the game 13 times)

2. Hexen II (this is an old first person shooter based on quake's engine - Hexen II™ © 1996, 1997 Id Software, Inc.) - went through with every hero on every difficulty level, well almost)

3. DOOM3 and Ressurection of Evil (the only thing i don't like is doom's most realistic engine, cause it is to overrealistic - just jump down a little bit more than 2 meters in hight and your dead).

I don't like militaristic games...though i suppose that some of them are really good work

SSam and Will Rock - for little kids, though i have to admit that Sam's first encounter gave me a thrill; i really enjoyed it when i was playing it several yers ago.

Half Life 2 (i am not talking about Half Life1) - though painkiller's scenario is even dumber, but Half Life's is just to silly to be taken seriously. Not much to say more.

BooH is...the originpk is better (i know it has been discused and i am not going to spawn here about it, yet i have done only 6 levels of BooH, as my PC is not designed to maintain BooH's resources, even if set to low without effects.

Btw, stay on topic! We are talking about single player games, why posting threads about quake and unreal?
