"All of you who are pissed off at this game - rip it down as best you can (as you should) and wait for the one with the handle "NFLed" to respond. Now after he does, click on his handle and read every post he's ever made on this board. He hasn't had anything to say other than defensive statements of the game in just about every post he's involved in."

Actually you are completely correct. Everything I have said about DL and will say about DL defends the game because I happen to enjoy it a lot and see the "missing features" as the same features missing in many other games and/or features I don't miss at all. Fortunately for me DL has enough good stuff for me to have enjoyed the game a lot even through to the end of the game (which is fairly rare for me).

Note that I don't say that it is one of my top games because those are reserved for greats such as BG2, PST, and Wiz8 and it's probably not right below those because there are other very good games such as Wiz7 (old school) and even Wiz6. I can't decide whether I liked DL or Gothic 2 better, they are similar but not the same and have different focuses. If you want to read negativity about DL from me I can say that I don't like timed jumping puzzles and those are in DL plus there are a couple of areas with a huge ton of fighting a bit too much for me (elven trial ending, for example).

Unfortunately for me I have played what seems like a ton of very poor or mediocre games and I can't even differentiate them in my mind. Dungeon Siege, Divine Divinity, Summoner, Sacred, there's about two dozen more on my shelf which I've played part of the way through and got bored. However, you won't see me on their message boards slamming those awful games because I see no reason to rain on their parades since if people like those games then more power to 'em.

If my philosophy of praising a game I enjoy (DL, for example) while avoiding the message boards of games I don't enjoy doesn't fit in with your idea of life then so be it and I recognize that I am in the *vast* minority since the internet is a place for people to complain and that's how it is on most message boards. It's a shame because imagine working years on something creative only to have people slam it unmercifully and slam you unmercifully because they don't like it -- kind of makes people who are creative not want to read message boards at all.

I'd rather focus on what I enjoy and just ignore the rest.

I have no interest in flaming users. It's more fun to flame the game!

Yeah, I enjoy the fact that there is no automap or character customization per the manual, empty towns, "hills" in the water, no graphical customization UI (that works), poorly recorded sound, broken quests, poor character animation and modeling, missing terrain types, etc etc, ad nauseum.

Yeah, I enjoy that alot.

OH YEAH, almost forgot... I enjoy the fact that it cost me forty bucks.

Ok, Visigoth needs some Prozac or something, but I won't go there :p . I too have played a ton of games, from horrible to god-like, and I definitely would rank this one a little above mediocre, however, if/when the 1.2 patch comes out I seriously think this one could be absolutely fantastic and I hardly regret spending the $39.99 to get it. I've been playing RPG's since before computers even came out (yeah, I'm old lol) and you simply have to understand that if you purchase a new game that you've only demo'ed, then you have to keep your expectations low, therefore not being disappointed if you "crap out" but at the same time being extremely pleased if you hit the jackpot. Just my 2 cents, wait for 1.2 to come, maybe even 1.3, then critique the "final" product.

My whole outlook on it is this: Sure there are a lot of bugs in the game. A lot of bugs. But I have fun with it. What there is of it. Yeah I was annoyed that I couldn't customize my character at first and yeah it is irritating to do a lot of work with a quest only to find that you can't finish it or you have to go to odd mechanical means (such as load the game, load the game again and if that doesn't work after about three times uninstall the game and reinstall it without erasing your saves) but all in all it is a fun game. I agree that the v1.2 patch should make things better and I personally am relieved to hear that it is "taking longer than they originally anticipated" because it means (hopefully) that there is alot to it.

This probably could have been avoided outright if they had just taken more time on it and done some more testing of it. But people would have complained that it was taking too long to get it out. So they release it early and people complain that there is something wrong with it. Game creators today can't win for losing. People should just stop complaining because in the end it's their fault that these things happen. Like was said, it makes creative people want to give up trying to be creative. Just do what I am: sit back, wait for the patches, chill and stop b****ing.

Quite the post, NFLed. I have been reading these forums since game launch, yet i never signed up for the forums. Mostly because of all the flames. I didn't care to partake in them. However, How many of you played the game and "didn't" enjoy it before coming to the forums? I know i enjoyed the game quite a bit for the first 2 weeks. Then slowly stopped playing to wait for the next patch.

Yeah...Missing this missing that...Who cares...There have been MANY of games that have came out that have been missing alot...some more then others. rpg's...fps's...stratagy games...etc. That's why they make these thing's called patches, To fix things they either didn't have time to before it launched or things they found after launch. That's why us gamers...have these things we call "bugs" and the dev's have those things called "patches" :D So it takes them longer then they wanted to release a patch...you should take that as good news...means they are getting more fixed/added to the game. Imagine playing the first MMO, which i am sure some of you did. as did i, there was bugs galore in it...then there was EQ...Wow...you shoulda saw the bugs! they was everywhere. I mean...people still bought the game...not to mention they PAID to play the game, on a monthly basis..yet, you spend 40 bucks on this game and complain ALOT...and it's just released...EQ was buggy for almost 2 years...and probably still is. I played that game daily for hours...

Enough. The game is a work in progress as are all...that's my point. Just think about other games...what they are missing...what they need...Not all are perfect (if any, hah) anyway's...mebbe ill post again soon, or maybe not...till then...sit back...play some tunes...and wait.

Hmmm I don't recall ANY of the games you mentioned missing character customization/map or other such glaring omissions that DL has. Maybe some of the earlier games that "couldn't" due to lack of technology back then but this is the 21st century.

If no one went to forum and complained about the obvious flaws of a game more people would have the misfortune of buying a crappy game. You can only trust magazine reviews as far as you can thorugh them underwater.

I like DL gaemplay itself but hate the obvious cut material just like I hate KOTOR 2 and any other game that is released before it is ready. I had fun playing gothic 2 as I did playing DL. BUT DL also makes it annoying to play at same time, maybe once it gets all patched up...But even then imo it won't be complete, but at that point I'll stop complaining because THAT is just my opinnion.

Having missing features/more bugs than you can kill with a can of raid and especially bugs that could of NEVER got past testing because they are so obvious....Well it just isn't right and therefor I'll complain to hopefully save others from getting a bargin bin game at top selling game's price.

Basically what he is saying is...that the reason it's like that is because people rushed the release...when they was told it was not ready...

*WHEW!*

Thanks for that clarification, Cicavic!! It kind'a read to me like folks complaining were responsible for DL...

...and I'd sure hate to be held accountable for that Turkey...

Oh yeah. Nevermind.

Fix? I don't see the point! Sure, bells n whistles are missing. Gamers who only care about multi-play are ticked off because that's where most of the bugs seem to be. Me, don't see the reason for multi-play except to exert one's prowess or whatever.

I consider gaming a more or less private thing and don't need to prove anything to anyone. Just enjoy single-play, where there's hardly ever any undo complications. I'm on my fifth time through the game and am constantly seeing and doing new things.

Doing new things?! Like what, solving new quests or sth I missed? I'm on my 4th and I didn't see anything new, except for a couple of new items, which doesn't make any difference ( slight maybe ). Or maybe you are reffering to the thing that you face new challanges like facing a dragon with a rusty dagger (a did try it  made it to app.50% than died) or what?

You must enjoy living in the "gaming ghetto". There's better out there than the way this game was released. Do you not play games often at all? You sound like maybe you are in your 50s or so and just started gaming and never really been exposed to much. /shrug

For the $40 Dungeon Lords costs, you could easily get on eBay:
- Arcanum
- Gothic 2
- Divine Divinity
- Ultimate Wizardry Archives (1-7 & 'Gold)
- Might & Magic Millenium (IV, V, VI, VII)
... and probably more ...

I just don't see how anyone can play this substandard quality game so many times before a decent patch is released. The storyline is linear and the quests are the same.

The only things I can think of are class related quests. So that is a bit of variety.

It would be disinenuous for me to say their is absolutely no variety in the class quests but a lot of them are essentially "find this unmarked placed and kill the ...", or have I missed some of the more interesting ones?
