Has anyone played this game? It looks awesome, but I can't seem to find it anywhere except for walmart.com. EB games had it as a pre-order and then all of a sudden said they weren't going to carry it :( right before the release date of June 1st. Any info would be appreciated!

The reason it's so hard to find is because of the high rate of returns upon release. The game has potential but it was released unfinished and buggy. Most of the people are not happy campers.

If you do buy it, you may want to wait for the 1.2 patch before starting. One of the upcoming patches is going to break save games because of the numerous fixes.

I just grabbed a copy for very cheap on eBay ... it is interesting that I got Boiling Point, Project: Snowblind and Pariah combined for less on eBay than I'd have to pay for a new full-price game ...

I'll play it when it arrives this week - I've heard it is a great concept / mediocre execution, with loads of bugs and so on. I'll see - and let you guys know.

The way I look at it so far in 2005:
- KotOR 2 had one of the most promising stories ever, great early game, mediocre mid-game, mess of an end-game.
- Heretic Kingdoms (I played it as an import last year) - fun game that isn't too huge, but does what it promises, and does it well.
- Dungeon Lords - probably one of the messiest releases ever, possibly one of the most-unfinished releases ever, but yet still a game I had a ton of fun playing.
- Restricted Area - more finish and polish than DL, loads of atmosphere and cool graphics, but lots of bugs and just boring, repetitive combat.
- Bioling Point - rumored to be a mess ...
- Bard's Tale (out this week) - getting a big 'meh' already.

I wish they had just done an updated version of Bard's Tale, rather than using the name for a completely different game. :(

I spent a huge amount of time playing the original on my C64 way back when. I was able to pick BT up again a few years back as part on an Interplay RPG collection. Even with SloMo running at max, the game plays incredibly fast on a modern (anything within the last 10 years) CPU.

Every now and again I get a bit nostalgic, which is why I have an old PIII sitting in the closet. I can get the beast up and running pretty quickly and relive some of gaming's "Golden Years", until I get my fix. Then, it's back to games that have much prettier graphics. :D

I purchased DL from EB, but the most local store never got it and I had to go for a long drive to get it. Since multiplay is not my forte, I'm not having any problems for the fourth time through on single play.

Sure there are lots of things left out, but they're only bells n whistles. I'm striving to be as familiar with the game as possible before the patch with auto-map comes out. For now though, I use the nice anotated world map (not the one from gamebanshee, it's not totally correct).

Oh, my bad. I thought another person was at the "Boiling Point" and "On the Road to HE*L" in regard to Dungeon Lords. lol

I got it and got it installed ... boy is it choppy! I'm just starting, and probably won't play much for a while, but will keep updatign if I find anything of interest.

How much RAM do you have, Mike? BP really appreciates 1Gb RAM.

I have 1GB, 128MB nVidia card, 3.2 P4, and so on ... this thing plays HL2, VtM: Bloodlines, Doom 3, etc like a dream, but seems to be struggling with Boiling Point.

Hmmm...I have a P4 3.0, Radeon 9700 Pro, 1Gb DDR...I certainly don't get a spectacular framerate but it usually stays >35fps, which is quite acceptable to me. The US v1.1 patch was "re-released" today (I assume it has been updated after being initially taken off Atari's US site) - there's no mention of performance tweaks in the patch notes but it might be worth a try.

It is interesting, it performs much better than Deus Ex Invisible War, which I would call 'sludgy', as it often felt you were fighting throughg sludge to get anywhere. Boiling Point feels alternately great and lousy, which is why call it choppy ... driving was a strange feeling thing as well. Have to try that again.

Thing is - it seems like a great concept. Talk to everyone, find information and uncover new stuff.

There's a v2 patch in development that aims to improve the driving model, among other things, so keep an eye out for that in due course.

You can do that? Return it, I mean? I'll take it back to Best Buy tommorrow and at least try. If not, I'll try to find an address for the manufacturer and mail it back to them. I couldn't even get the 1.10 patch to work :-P Imagine playing the game for weeks and installing a patch and having to replay it all over again.

Well, yesterday I upgraded my desktop system - my gaming laptop power connecter was giving my intermittent hassles I couldn't isolate ... so I got a nVidia 6600 GT and a DVD-ROM drive (the system originally just had a CD-RW, believe it or not!). I finished Project: Snowblind and then re-started Boiling Point. After cranking the settings of Snowblind and getting very smooth and nice results, I'm back down to 'normal' with mediocre framerates in Boiling Point.

I'll work at it for a while, but the load times are also horrific ...

Yes, the framerates are mediocre but perfectly playable, IMO. The load times are long -- but then again, there's no more loads at all, right? Anyway, hopefully v2.0 will be along soon - the patch notes are quite impressive if they pull it off.

LoL! Just trying to understand how some of the folks who post on these boards play through all these diffirent games so incrediably fast .....either they are the whizzyest whizes at puter games or they have nothing else to do.....I thought I played pc games alot but my time playing must be very very miniscule compared to many folks posting on here....LOL...

I played some and have managed to get the mafia really ticked off at me (-100), which in turn has made the already friendly guerillas and government very happy! Unfortunately I left my car running and have to hoof back to town to get a new one ... since I have some cash now with selling everything I could.

I like how the game models reality - if you take leg damage you limp, when using a heavily worn weapon it misfires regularly (yep, died more than once jumping out to surprise someone and 'click'!

As for how I do it? I don't sleep much in the years since my wife and younger son had loads of problems at birth and I was very busy taking care of two kids under two and a wife ... plus since we've had a bunch of layoffs and people leave, I will occasionally play through my lunch at my desk. Also, my last 5 games - Project Snowblind, Pariah and Postal 2 Apocalypse Weekend on the PC, GoldeneEye: Rogue Agent for the Nintendo DS, and Coded Arms for the PSP - took less than 24 hours total.

That was 7 years ago, and everything is fine - I just never have needed more than ~ 4 hours of sleep since (before that I was walking death without 8!)

The thing that sticks me - aside from watching my son turn blue or my wife surrounded by specialists - was all the tiny miracles in the NICU. Because we were high risk we were at Children's Hospital in Boston, which has tons of very-preemie and low weight babies ... and it is amazing that my 1 day old son was bigger than the total of 6 month old triplets!

I don't know how much / how much longer I'll hang around here, but for a while anyway, even if it becomes more sporadic ...
