View Full Version : The question of.....Soon

How soon is soon? Saying that is rather subjective.
We've all been waiting in a Doctors office at some time or another and had to be told that, "He'll see you soon". Is that going to 5 mins or 2 hours?
What I want to know is DC's idea of soon.... Is it days, weeks, or months?
A rough over predicted timefame would be nice just to know approximately how long we have to wait. I sure with this knowledge it would ease many a folks frustration while waiting for a patch.
If you tell me a week from now i'll recheck this board in a weeks time. At the moment I'm checking it every freaking day with the hopes of maybe its ready, then finding myself utterly disapointed at the apparent lack of action.

If you read the status update, it does say a week or so... this means release over this weekend is unlikely but by next weekend is likely.

Over the useful life of a game...say 2-3 years, a week is no big deal. The trick is to make sure you don't need a 3 gig 1.4 patch. After the most recent PC Gamer review that rated this game in the 40's, I assume they want to make the game more appealing. Why not spend the week on the Bard's Tale boards, complaining how ship date slips one day at a time, each day? See all six of you in a week. :)
P.S. Jer, does this post put me one ahead of you? ;)

OMG !! .. 2-3 years ??
If I play a game more then 2-3 months it has to be **** good .. In my gaming history, I have only found maybe 2 games that I deemed worthy of more then a couple months play.
Once I complete a game, its completed. No need to go back through all that pain and torture again for me.. hehe
So since the 'usefull life of a game' is about 2 months to me .. 1 Week is a huge deal .. especialy in a game that is so buggy and unfinished.
EDIT: .. OMG !! .. D A M N .. Is a filtered word .. its so evil .. /sigh

That's why we need a game which will provide us a Random Game Generator Editor. Here we could play new worlds every weekend! The editor portion would allow us to specify game difficulty, death penalty, # of dungeons and how deep they go, and the list goes on.
Unfortunately the game developers keep giving us ONE single world to play... and after playing two characters most people get bored and move on. When will they gain the wisdom to give us something like I mentioned which would really get us hooked thus we would be encouraging others to buy it.

Baldur's Gate I and II and Fallout 1 and 2 are many years old and I play them at least once a year.... But I do agree that if the game is at least a tiny bit mod friendly the game tends to last a lot longer. Baldur's Gate II is still alive and kickin' in the mods area... Heck, even with Neverwinter Nights(wich I hate) out!

Hehehe yeah I've just arrived in the underdark for the nth time, play it myself once a year if I need to or not ;) and as you say there are soooo many mods out there for it. Still who knows maybe HP will have sneaked and editor into the patch :p Then we can see some real game development.

With reguard to Neverwinter Nights,
The strange thing for me is, I find playing the game very boring while building a module (even one that no one will ever see or play) is great fun. What's up with that?

How can someone play an RPG with a linear storyline and the same quests over and over and over and over again for 2-3 years instead of moving on to a new game?
I guess I don't understand how a broken piece of quality control lacking, substandard junk like this has replay value, let alone the enticement needed to complete it the first time without being fixed with patches.
