A happy day today. I tried to work this out before without success but I had to have it and by Jove...I have it !!! By the way...Who the heck is Jove huh ?

You can use a blend material to get terrain or other objects to use multiple materials that blend together. Texture tiling needs to be set in the actual material to maintain the mask. You need to Render To Texture to get the result on export / import. I may expand on this method if anyone is interested.

I need to correct myself. Tiling textures in the actual material does not work for import into pained, just in max and render. So...I need to look into this further. It's still progress but less than I'd hoped for as texture tiling for terrain is a must.

Well..That wasn't so hard. I just needed to learn some more about max mapping channels. The above pic now shows blended tiled textures. What I said there should read..

You can use a blend material to get terrain or other objects to use multiple materials that blend together. The alpha map used in the blend needs to be assigned to a seperate mapping channel to allow the visible textures to be tiled as required. You need to Render To Texture to get the result on export / import. I may expand on this method if anyone is interested.

Ok ? Good . Are you sure but ? Yes...Pretty sure this time. Ok then. Later. Bye.
