View Full Version : Trouble using IZArc archiver.

After a bit of searching I read that this is a very good freeware archiver, if not the best. I am trying to use it to modify a couple of lua files in Far Cry so I can drive through the jungle with the Humvee and not have it's turret spin like a top every time it brushes up against the leaves of trees.

There's no problem at all opening up the materials file, and the mat files therein that contain the details on the leaves, and I did copy and save the Scripts PAK they're in to My Documents before attempting to modify them.

I read how to do it on a site that tells how to modify the Far Cry SP demo, and got verification on the Far Cry forum that the same trick works for the retail game.

When I first went to change the piercing resistance from 2 to 0, and selected yes, to keep the changes when closing the file, I would see the same settings that were there originally, when opening it back up. Part of the yes involved having to save it in the archive, as the program asked.

Later, after going back to the materials file, I saw there were two new mat files reguarding the leaves at the bottom of the materials file, so I deleted the originals within the same file, as I had the copy in My Documents still, and was worried they would conflict with the new files.

I ended up deleting the new files as well, because I had saved twice, not knowing new files were being generated, and they were each labeled differently. I thought I could just go back to the original Scripts PAK copy in My Documents and replace the Scripts PAK completely, but even the mat_leaves files in it were gone!

Does anyone know how to use this program for this purpose? I'm really getting tired of programs that have readmes which bragg about how easy as pie they are to use, then crap like this happens.

The weird thing is, I put the Far Cry disc in and launched the game, after the materials script was missing the two leaves files, and I got no error message. I also saw in IZArc there's a test fuction, so I ran it on the Scripts PAK, and it said everything checked out OK, but it still was missing the two mat_leaves files.

I ended up uninstalling the IZArc and Far Cry to start over (story of my life) , but am not sure at this point what to do different this time around.
