Some of the game stop bugs are not listed,
are they gone or still in the game?
e.g.
when leaving a building in the elven city while in multiplayer. (player number >= 3)

Just be glad we got something that hopefully fixes most of this mess.
What IS the status of fixing the spells and character customization? Is another patch in the works or is this how the company is going to leave the game...all halfassed? How about fixing the stuttering before random encounters?

Yes, this patch leaves many unresolved questions. Does it break saved games? Any bug fixes?
I'm not going to install it until I see some feedback. I'm actually playing the original install, so far no serious bugs have affected my gameplay.
Still, there is so much that needs to be done, apparently it's going to take a lot more patches. Please DC - tell us what's going to be in 1.4 and 1.5??
Shock

Also, nobody has stated if this patch will break save games or not. Will future patches break save games or is this the only one? At least tell us ahead of time so we know what to expect.

when there is over 350 known bugs do you realy expect them to fix all of them in 3 patches ;)

If the game stop bugs are still there, which by
the way kept me from continue the game. What is the
point about caring about if the save games are compatible. :(

Gameplay tweak: Two boss battles (Shaduroth, Nypherus) slightly adjusted.
Gameplay tweak: Random monster drops adjusted slightly.
Gameplay tweak: Locust spell has been slightly reduced in damage and no longer "jumps" over distances.
Gameplay tweak: Samurai/Imperial armor bonus strike/parry changed to +1 per item.
Added feature: SaveGame thumbnail images.
Bug fix: Junk inventory operates correctly now allowing players to keep duplicates of the 18 most valuable items.
Bug fix: Potions of Power working correctly.
Bug fix: Rare cases of automatically equipped items which can't be removed.
Bug fix: Occasional Volgar double-speech at end game fixed.
Bug fix: Quest characters now remain in the world if the player runs away and enters another scene.
Bug fix: Monster summons can no longer get stuck in terrain or walls in the Demon Realm.
Bug fix: NPCs (Elderon, Morgus, Valkyra) should no longer get stuck in objects if blocked in their path.
I am thankful for the patch, there is no doubt in that.
However are those really the high priority / Class A bugs???

The patch doesn't break saved games lol. view distance and grass detail also still dont work.
I have just played about 30mins with new patch. It does not have any problems with older saves, and the thumbnail on saves works fine.
I loaded the Maze in the Black Swamp... let me say this, it's A LOT easier with the map!!
Also, when going through the wilderness you can see where you've been, so exploring is a pleasure.

Which means they've caught up to...oh...1992...? (Heck, Crusaders of the dark Savant had an automap, fer cryin' out loud...and you needed a character to develop his or her map skill for it to be really effective...)

I think these are important bugs to fix, particularly the last one. These greatly enhance gameplay and playablility of the quests. Still, I must sigh... why didn't you include the character customisations DC?? :( :( :(

As I said before balancing things and promoting gameplay in a patch is one thing. False advertising is another. By placing "Character Creation" on the box they blatantly lied to the customer. Hence the reason I'm so upset. It wasn't that a problem or 300 were missed in QC, thats forgivable... But lying to your customers is unacceptable. We deserve some restitution here... whether it be an apology, a timely fix (TIMELY), or an option to be refunded. It's not about the game, its about being screwed and lied too.

Yes, it is good that they are fixing the game, but as someone has already commented, it shouldn't have been released in a broken state to begin with. The customer should not be counting his blessings about something they should expect to work properly.

I agree the last fix is some what important, however it could be solved
by reload a save several minutes ago. (before entering the building
where the NPCs are.)
There are bugs which could be only solved by reloading a save game
from hours ago. Or not even by that! :(

Haha, yeh they are complaining a lot Gorn. I admin other forums and yeh, this stuff can get annoying. But on the other hand, I can't blame them one bit. We SHOULD be giving DC absolute **** one way or the other. Not so much to 'teach them a lesson' or anything like that. It would be an exercise in futility. But rather, I think this is about sending a strong message to ALL computer game producers that they can not, and should not get away with releasing falty and broken products on the market and then expect the consumer to sit on their hands in frustration while waiting to recieve what they paid for.

I've held my tongue long enough after purchasing and waiting for a decent patch to bring this game up to at least the release potential it so avidly proclaimed to offer. This current trickle of digital excrement is a pathetic excuse for a patch and as a result, an overall game thus far. When you ship a title that proclaims so much and offers so little of what is printed on the box and in the manual, then you have no ground to stand on regarding taking offense to angry customers.
As a long-time consumer of many genres and platforms worth of games, this is one of the absolute shoddiest titles I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing.
I'm not even going to bother listing the exhaustive litany of things remaining absolutely broken and incomplete in this product. Suffice it to say, when most attributes don't affect diddly squat, characters aren't customizable, a majority of skills are broken, most spells aren't worth a dime or don't even work, and the world is a barren wasteland devoid of NPC's and content, then your game garners a solid thumbs-down.
Shame on the developers if they sanctioned this release as it stands. Shame on the publisher for issuing it to the public. This is absolute garbage and schlock. At best, DL is a technical demo of a pre-alpha release. It doesn't deserve to be called a complete game, since it most obviously isn't.
C'mon... don't hold back, tell us how you really feel...

I believe the public already has.
I've read so many bogus postings on Amazon, EB Games and others written by those who have an agenda or just want to vent because they can't figure out a puzzle and decide it's a bug... or how many times have read that a music CD was the best thing since the Beatles, you buy it and it sounds like dogs howling?
Same goes for games...
There are many reasons to rag on this game, I won't argue that, but there are Many reasons to love it too... as can be proved by the folks here that have played the game 3-4-5 times and still want more.

What was the original topic of this post? I got lost in all the back and forth.
Anyway my 2 cents is that it is a step in the right direction.
There are things that will hopefully be fixed in a 1.4, 1.5 patch that will help all the others with the game breaking bugs eg. the fire room during the Trial of the Elders.
Until then, there is this board for support and the walkthrough and GameBanshee. I would have to say you should be able to get through the game with little or no problems using both when needed.

Isn't this what you want us consumers to do? You want us to stop complaining and give our praise and joy to the developers for making a GREAT game. If you read all of Gorn's posts, this is what he is asking us to do. Is it not?
Can somebody else read Gorn's posts and tell me in a "nut shell" what he wants us consumers to do?
If we don't have anything good to say, he doesn't want us here complaining. Isn't that part of what makes a forum or not? To voice our opinions be it positive or negative.
If you have a technical problem, a bug or a complaint about functions which don't work and you Really wanted to expose the folks who wrote and published the game to these problems, you'd have posted your rant in the Tech section where it belongs, not in general forum.
If you wanted to warn folks about the missing features than you should rant on EB Games, Amazon or other sites that Sell the Game, not where they come for help and advice.
It's clear you come here to attack anyone who might have enjoyed the game, not point out the problems to the company. People who attack every positive post have a name... they are called trolls... and I should know better than to feed them.
And, if you read my posts you would know...
I come here to help those who are lost, stuck or can't progress in the game, and to this end I've posted dozens & dozens of messages for those who came here in need... how many players have you helped? I'll tell you... none... you come here to attack, complain and insult those who post here.

Wow, name calling. I need to "grow up" plus I'm a "troll" because I'm pointing out the obvious about this game.
I commend you for helping out consumers with "in game" issues. "Clap", "Clap".
But your reasoning for you attacking those who feel the game was wrongfully released is not justified.
Do you feel as though the game should have been released to hard working consumers in its final state?
We are only voicing our opinions. Don't we have the right to do that in this forum?

You are correct. Sarcasm is not really needed. But if it wasn't sarcasm Gorn and company would give praise to the person who really feels the game is great.
Hacknshoot
06-29-2005, 10:10 PM
And? I don't see any problem with that at all. Praise isn't sarcasm if it's sincere. If he likes the game and he's congratulating them on their decision, then it's his right and it isn't wrong. For the record, I like the game because it offers some unique factors not many RPGs have(and I don't mean the "bad" things, I mean like not being to be all-encompassing or single-classed and stuff like that).
From : D. Crenshaw (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/cm/member-glance/-/A16Y2T17N84UV4/1/ref=cm_cr_auth/102-6764200-8412920?%5Fencoding=UTF8)@ Amazon
First, I went into this game really looking forward to it. I have to say I was pre-disposed to *wanting* to like it.
And I do like it. I't still a lot of fun.
However, there are so many serious flaws in terms of programming and just basic game design that it becomes almost too overwhelming too ignore. I think we all have moments in any game, even any movie, where we say, "Well, that was dumb why did they/didn't they do that?" I'm talking about many, many moments of these kinds of reflections. There was an expectation of character customization...that wasn't fulfilled. There is a confusing and buggy quest log...which at first is manageable, but the deeper you go into the game the more difficult it becomes to remember things. Yes, I could pull out the old pen and paper --- but why should I HAVE to? If my computer has 1 GB or Ram, AMD64 3000+ and a NX6600GT Nvidia with 128MB ram and a 7200 RPM SATA drive, then why should my computer stutter *every* time a new group of monsters come to call? Why should my helmet look like it's still on...even after I've taken it off.
Again--is the game fun? Yes, indeed. I enjoy it. But so are picnics until the fruit flies start coming one buy one. After a while, no matter how nice the scenery or the food, the fun of the picnic is going to get ruined.
Now, I held off on a review because Heuristic Park and Dreamcatcher seemed responsive to their customers. Their website was up, they released an initial patch fairly quickly, and they seemed open to satisfying and fixing the issues--which are abundant.
However, I went back to the forum at the beginning of this week and now Dreamcatcher has mysteriously dropped their forum. There is zero response. The support online is negligible. I held my game past 7 days (allowed for returns from the retailer where I bought it) because I was expecting more communication with the Dev and publisher. .... now they appear to have gone into hiding.
So...in my opinion, to buy this game right now would be to take a fairly big risk. ... up to you ...
__________________________________________________ _______________
So I thought the picnic comment was funny...but am confused about the dropped forum part. Dream catcher has done a good job IMO (bring on the rants for having one ;)) and I hope they keep it up!
Gorn...I like you man...ur an optimist. I will tell you though that sometimes you just have to take the higher ground, or at least pick which threads you want to save from the H8Rs cuz you just can't win them all. I'll do my best to getCho back though! :D

Gorn,
I totally respect you. So far, I just sat back and took in all the comments and told myself what the heck, I like to form my own opinions. I'll play the game anyway. Sure, improvments are needed, but it is still playable and I like the "explore and discover" part about these games anyway. Plus, once I stopped comparing this game to my fav Morrowind, it actually started to enjoy it more, too.
By the way. I have not installed the 1.1 patch, since I didn't want to start all over again. Do you think just the 1.3 patch will be ok or do I need the 1.1 patch? So far I haven't had any major issues (except the first time in Emmindors tower the elevator got stuck, thank goodness I had a previous saved game.) I just look at all the bugs that are reported here and be careful to save my game frequently and avoid the issues that others experienced.
Thanks to everybody for reporting bugs, so I know what to look out for.

end of summer? At this pace I'd have to agree end summer 2010....Yes they added automap but haven't fixed a single major bug yet (according to fix list). yeah we get to keep a couple extras of stuff..what does that matter if we can't paly game due to bugs... tweaking.... don't even go there. It took over a month to add the automap, and do these measly fixes, I don;t think I'll ever be satisfied with the game stabilty after seeing this. I'll shelf this for another month/year and maybe by some act of god they'll actually make a patch that make me not dread playing the game.
It is truelly sad I loved the gameplay mor than any game I've played before it but the state it was released in...
I guess I'll play the bard's tale while I wait....
