The stuttering is not just an indication of an encounter... it happens when you move into an area that contains buildings or other new material.

Let me ask this... do you complain when a game stops the action completely with a "LOADING" screen like Morrowind, or Halflife when you cross that invisible line in the sand?
I think it's better with a small pause and let me continue without worrying I get into a battle on the invisible line and have the thing loading if I back up... and the creature evaporates until I load the next area and it's waiting for me.

Your other points seem very valid and agree with most... (I alway shut off backround music).

Valid point Gorn.. However at least when the area is preloaded the game environment is engrossing. As it is now the shuttering just lets me know that its time to start wearing my mouse out some more. It comletely breaks the environment that the game evidently tried to create.

just my opinion

Two issues I would like to add:

- Player teleport to edge of world when > 2 players leave a building in Arindale
- Player teleport into overhang when > 2 players leave Fighers Guild building (forget name) in Arindale

The stuttering issue should be relatively easily fixed if the game is either threaded or using async io requests. Issue the request, let the game continue, when the load is complete show the encounter.

I know many others have expressed issues with "lag" in multiplayer, I myself have not witnessed this. With three players on a lan, we never had any slowdown whatsoever. It possibly has to do with packet loss an queueing but that's just a wild guess.

- Cloaks

That has been driving me nuts. Every screen shot has the players wearing cloaks. Where is my cloak? All of the NPCs are wearing cloaks, as if to taunt me "Look at me! I have a cloak and you don't!"

The broken spells thing is a major disappointment. Having a majority of your spells be non-functional is disgraceful. I'm going to stop playing this game until future patches come out and fix the content and multiplayer. Its just not worth it and there are plenty of other games out there. Some day, Dungeon Lords will be a good game.... I hope.

Yes I agree. Those are rather important bugs which need to be fixed.
I would also request the 'parry' skill to be operational since I've seen lots of cool parry animations in the game not yet implemented.

I think the stuttering is coming from file IO operations. I could be wrong, but it seems that way since accessing from disk is usually the slowest. I suggest they pre-load the enemies (that can appear in a given area) into fast memory before the players anter that area.

I also don't have any lag problems from playing on LAN, however I experienced many lag problems when playing it online.

both of these games have difrent stiles of loding, morrowind has progressive load and half-life has the load screen stile
dungeon lords has the progresive load but it also has a short pause when monsters are spawning
i dont mind any of these stiles i have never had any problems playing a game because of a load stile

This has been my assumption as well. That is where threading or async io come in handy. Personally I prefer async io as it reduces the need for thread locking and so forth but this gets into the event driven vs. threaded religious war. Either way could address the issue we are experiencing by causing the game to not block while waiting for the reads to complete.

The expansion pack idea is a really good one. Ascaron did the right thing after they released an incredibly buggy product called Sacred. They kept the patches coming ina steady pace, and after a while they offered a free expansion as a download. Then they rereleased the game and called it Sacred+ (which I own) and a huge expansion called Sacred Underworld (which I also own).

They never gave up and just kept working and grinding and by now the game should be getting pretty solid reviews. I know I'm having a lot more fun with this 'new' game than I ever had with the original Sacred (which I had to review).

Learn from Ascaron's example, Heuristic/Dreamcatcher! There's still time to create a loyal fan-base!

Oh god, the NPC dialogue is awful (for those with dialogue anyway). Do you really want to suffer more NPCs performing a 3 page soliloquy about this and that in boorish language and then tell you everything you already learned in the opening movie?

yes having like 80-90% of the enconters to be preloaded (SET Encounters and only 10-20% as random would reduce lag and still keep it random enough to be interesting.

My request would be to add the missing skills and fix the ones that don't work- and make magic regenerate for God's sake! My pally has seven points in celestial and almost as many in channel and his magic never goes above one fourth of total magic energy. even camping changes nothing

I've put my game on the shelf until either:

Missing skills are implimented to make my Trickster a viable class choice
OR
character cutomization so I can start anew and persue the War Witch path.

I'm all for the idea of expansion packs and sequels; this is a great combat engine buried in a world that's too small and crowded with too many missed opportunities. And a bit of complaint about the AI: those goblins in the sewers were scrappy little fighters but now most of my encounters are huge hordes of the same dumb creatures that were wandering around at the start point. The Elder Trials was the most disappointing. Give those honored Elders half their hit points and the ability hit back! Thus my final wish for future patches/expansions:

More smart enemies, fewer stupid hordes.

cheers!

I hope there will be another patch. Though I really liked the stuff introduced in 1.3, the game is still far from perfect.

I think that patching has its limits. It should handle the critical problems, because until that any gameplay tweaks are irrelevant.

I think the most critical problems are the game-stopping bugs. Those must be dealt with. The second most important category are stuff that are advertised to be in the game (spells, skills, etc.). These are also of paramount importance. Gameplay tweaks are tertiary, IMHO, as they are largely irrelevant until these previous issues are handled. Stuff about populating the world, introducing new NPCs, furniture, etc is probably better left for a future expansion. I like the (to some) apparently barren world, it has a strong mood. For me that is adequate; though some minimum work may still be good (like fixing some fireplaces, etc.). Yet the majority of these content-enhancements are not patch material, because on one hand not everyone wants these, and on the other, the game can well be comlete without these.

I hope the programmers at HP are using this post to make their list of fixes needed. Everyone is handing their problems with the game to them on a silver platter. Most of mine have already been addressed above with the exception of the trite dialogue you get from the NPCs. I don't think anything can be done with that though unless you rewrite the whole script.

They should have taken more time to tweak their gameworld. Actually, they should have taken more time to complete their game. If I wanted to play a mindless hack and slash game, I would go play Untold Legends on my PSP.

The patch would need to give you character custimazation!
Put more furniture and more people doing things in the buildings
Allow you to sleep on the beds
Put more people in the streets of the towns that walk around And can give you interesting side quests
Allow the characters to wear cloaks
Fix all bugs and gliches
Improve the graphics
Put in all the skills, Abillaties and spells that were left out
Fix the laging In the multiplayer
Put civilians with side quests to give you in the willderness
Allow the characters to attack anyone not just enemies
And put all the things that were ment to be in the game in the game
Put in a general map that shows you the entire game world
And polish up the game
If the creators of the game make a patch that doese all of this It will make the game more enjoyable for the people who bought it and will make the game more succesfull. But if the creators think this is a bit much for a patch why dont they just make a sequel or and expansion. :D :)

This is patch material. All else is for an expansion. I'd like to *choose* whether I want my game to have more NPCs. I enjoy Dungeon Lords, but am frustrated by the bugs and plethora of unimplemented skills and features. These are objective flaws missed by everyone; the rest is all a matter of taste (more NPCs vs. less, etc.).

I am passing a lot of the ideas for fixes expressed here directly to a Heuristic Park representative who is passing it along to the development team.

If you all can be a little nicer and a little patient (which is a stretch, I know) and wait out another patch, we'll see if they are actually getting the message and fixing these things.

I get the impression they want to fix it.

1) Fix the magic regeneration. I agree with the previous post where it is silly that even after camping your celstrial skills are not complete.
2) Better item descriptions. Would it take up that much more space to say what some of the other items due ( I.E green sword, crimson armor, etc.)
3) The abilty to rest away from a the oh so plentiful campfires. Have it set some how that there is a chance that you can rest with out being bothered and certan classes ( ranger for example ) would have a higher chance to rest peacefully. Or be able to rest in grylock (?) or the staraxia ( ?) tower with out risk of being bothered.
4) If your lock pick skill is greater that the lock by 2 levels it should automatically open. I like the skill and it is fun but it would be more realistic if you knew your skills were better than the task at hand.
5) Increase the abiltiy to sell Nether Katala items. I have a ton of rat tails and the option to sell 10 at a time just does not cut it. The option to put in a number would be nice.
6) I don't know how this would work out but change the way the crystal of time works but this is my hope for it. Instead of everything slowing down just the area slows town but you remain at the same speed.
7) Let magic weapons work in the off hand.
These are my hopes for the next patch along with what everyone else has said ( fix quests, reward drops from Elven wizard, NPCs, Side quests, etc)

- Let me hold down the attack button for repeat attacks. My finger is and mouse button are wearing out.

- How about 'easter eggs' in the game. Things that are fun, but nothing special. They did that with chests at the bottom of the lakes and that is fun to find them. Add some more. Like put chests on top of the mountains. Have some messages written on the walls or on signs. My all time favorite was from Wizardry, "Trebor Sucks" (or maybe Sux). I loved that, especially after I completed the game, defeated Werdna, then Trebor took all my cool weapons and gadgest - Trebor really did suck.

- About character customization, I think that is neat, but it is minor to me (major to others), but what about the ability to allow me to add my own tattoos to my face, hands, etc. That way it can be absolutely unique. What about painting / coloring my armor, shields, etc.

- Give me a way to list three (or some number) random monsters that I no longer want to see. I cannot stand the snakes and bats and would love to say no more. Instead of generating bats and snakes it would generate more goblins, spiders, or anything else.

- I have no idea how easy / hard this is, but allow me to add an NPC to the game and a quest with him. That would be great. I may not be any good at this, but there are plenty of talented people out there. It would be great to create my own little quest with some new NPCs. It doesn't seem that hard, talk to NPC, accept quest (flip bit), if bit flip then the 'bad' guy shows up on some area, or a message is there, or .....

- How come I can have a character of those demigoths, but I never fight any of them? Where are the lizard men, etc. I want to kick more butt, and some of those demigoths look like they need a serious whooping of their derriere.

- How can we have a fantasy game and no Dwarven City or mines? That is almost a requirement. Heck, there a ton of mountains, give me some dwarven caves.

- There are lots of very similar monsters, like giant spiders, then the black widow spiders, (same with scorpions, etc). Basically, they all look the same but have different names. Well, the 'work' has been done with the legs, animation, etc. Now, go in there and just change the colors so that they look a little different. It seems like a simple and easy thing to do, but will actually, make it more fun. Heck, send me the graphics files and I will color them.

- Along the same lines, how about different drakes. Like an Ice Drake (White/Blue/Spits ice), Gas Drake (green/yellow/spits gas), etc. I like the dragons, but get tired of the same ones.

- How about allow us to create our own teleport spots (bookmarks) in the game? I mean like to go to the Moonbeast island to kill moonbeasts (to get the rest of the points I need to move up a level), but that place is a MAJOR pain to get to. I like re-exploring some places, but they are a pain to get to. Why make me walk/run back to that place? I have been there, I enjoyed it, and now I want to go back, why make it such a pain to get back to there.

- Mark the treasure chests on the map when I find them, like the campfires, etc. Or at least allow me to add some limit symbols to the map, so I can do it.

- Allow me to sell all my junk items at once, why make me sell each and every one one-at-a-time.

- I loved the previous request to let me sell (or even buy) more than just ten.

- Provide a faster way to sell, buy items. Keep the are-you-sure way, but allow me to hold down the control key or something to skip that part.

- I would like to have my left mouse button do melee attack and my right mouse button to my spell casting. Quit making me flip back and forth, do it automatically.

- Give me some kind of indicator on when I can cast the spell again (or do anything). You cast the fire nova spell, but it takes a while before you can cast it again, start melee attacks, pick up anything, etc., do something to indicate this to me. I cast this spell, then I run up to someone and try to whack them before they cast a spell on me, but I missed timed it and nothing happens, and I get fried.

- This seems major, but I do not understand why the nova spells have their graphics in essentially two dimensions. Why not a sphere of influence/destruction? Seems like it would be way cooler.

I am sure there are more, but that is what I can think of at this point. Granted this is not just for 1.4, but for future stuff.

Guys, you need to make your requests somewhat reasonable. I'm reading through a lot of these and seeing stuff like:

make all the treasure chests appear on the map (what's the fun of finding them if you know where they all are by looking at the map)

getting face and arm tattoos (this isn't a carnival or Six Flags)

They are not going to mess with stupid **** like that. If stuff isn't working, like no magic weapon damage in the off hand, not enough moongates, damage modifiers not working, shadows not working, and other things that are obviously broken...then these are suggestions to make for fixes.

This isn't a Christmas List. It's a repair list.

Fix the game.
Make the game more longer and funner.
Where is my cloak!?
Why can't i use ninja skills and be able to switch to ranged weapons?
Why isnt there any special places like special secret dungeons with awesome items.
I've never found anything secret to the game.
Rouges are garbage.
I can unlock a lv.6+ chest without the skills.
Why is the game so short?
The random events are stupid, why can't there just be mobs around the game? I nodiced there is nothing in the map, only random mobs that you know are comming when you lag.
What's the point of backstab if you can't even get behind your target?
What's up with the low population of people in the multiplayer area?
How come ninjas don't get any hand-to-hand combat weapons?
Where are the good weapons found at?
Why can't i use a map?
Why is there a map option in the /? help menu.
Why isn't the letter 'M' on my keyboard opening the map?
Why do I keep getting the same kind of mobs but with differnt names?

I don't feel like continuing. -.-

Tip : For multiplayer

Needs:
2 pcs, 2 savegames with 2 diffrent chars
each computers must have this 2 savegames

Recipe :
1st pc host a game
2nd pc join the game
1st pc load a game (which contains 2nd players char)
2nd pc create a level 1 char
start the game
save and exit current game
when 2nd pc hosts a game after that; the 1st pc's char is in the list at the right, select it.
2nd pc load a game (which contains 1st players char and the game you want to play)
1st pc join the game

Notice : I think the mages are strongest, if they have lots of money or spellbooks (can be copied in multiplayer)

Wish List:
1-)Pull a character out of savegame :
"Load Character" button can be turned to "Pull character"

2-)When on a quest, the NPC's about the quest might be highlighted. And there can be an arrow to locate the player.

3-) IMPORTANT ABOUT PERFORMANCE : THE TEXTURE FILES MUST BE CHANGED TO JPEG FILE and/or COMPRESS THEM IN TO "A FILE". MORE FILES WILL DECREASE THE PERFORMANCE. I like the Diablo 2 from this way: it has at most 15 files!

4-)THERE MUST BE A "LOADING SCREEN" WITH A "PROGRESS BAR"

enough for now :D

I think they should just make it into a supplement module with new content and major fixes. Don't need to have patch 1.xxx. Call it Dungeon Lords: The Return of Evilllllll!!!! :D . But, seriously, have new music which would change with the actions of your PC. Say when you are in combat. Also, make more ecounters area specific. Not just your average 50 bats or rats that come in and chew you to shreds. . Had that happen to me. Just some ideas.

Few things I think needs to be added to the list.

Limiting monsters flight times. Some monsters I see could actually stay airbornue for a few minutes at a time, making it impossible from the fighter class do some good damage to the monster. Most of my damage comes from my sword not from the arrows. If they are a flying monster sure they should fly but they should stay up for maybe 30 seconds but have to be on the ground for 30 seconds.

Limiting monsters to push you back. I really hate this since Im a fighting class when a monster use a flame spell or something and push me back for a several feet, then I have to run back, hopefully I dont get pushed back some more, to kill the monster.

The dragons Ive actually killed. For their experience for being only 200,000 its too low for the difficulty of this monster. If this monster have to be so hard for its experience, either nerf the dragons difficulty or raise the exp to 400,000. With the few dragons Ive faced I end up using 10-15 high quality healing potions. Ive a few monsters that are worth 200,000 and they are actually easier then the dragons.

Offer a scroll bar on the dialogue window while talking to NPCs, this feature would be very useful when talking to Voraatus in the tomb of souls. During that little mastermind game we have to do, the information we need to know on how many we got right is quickly and easily missed.

One more thing, of all the relics of power, Im not really impressed with the shield, I think its a big lacking for being the "relic of power." Maybe give us 100% pro flame while we are using it. Wow if that was done, this we be truely something to be worth fighting for.

If we're actually posting a real WISH list, then we might as well go for broke and wish big. Here's my list. :D

1. Dreamcatcher goes bankrupt trying to pay for the patch and spares gamers any future disasters hidden in PC game boxes.

2. The excecutive team at DC winds up on the street selling their bodies for crack money.

3. We all get our money back, plus $100 to pay for the wasted hours trying to slog through this mess while waiting for patches.

4. The 1.4 patch actually rewrites the entire game, making it playable, fun, interesting, and worth finishing.

5. Moongates are activated at the start of the game, do not require moonstones, and are located at every dungeon and IN every city (Skuldoon).

6. All voice actors involved with this game are fired and never allowed to work as voice actors again.

7. All script writers involved with this game are fired, etc. etc.

8. Any game reviewers who gave Dungeon Lords more than a 50 out of 100 score (or equivalent) are exposed as drooling retards, and locked safely away in institutes so they can cause no further harm.

8. Every retail chain and website that sold this game offers a lengthy written apology and promises to never again sell merchandise so foul that it literally blackens the display racks with corruption.

9. A mod is released to unlock hidden pornographic scenes with the hot chicks in the game, like in GTA.

10. Folks that think the game 'really isn't all that bad' see what the game SHOULD have been, and awaken into a new level of consciousness and truth...where the rest of the human population is.

I'm pretty sure any of these ten wishes have about as much chance of happening as a 1.4 patch. :)

Iparnell, Sleth Silverbane is a Zaur (lizard man). But you can only fight him if you're with the guild of mystery. Here's what needs to be done to the game:

Open the rest of the inside of Vartugg's fortress. I was just in there and used the automap to see if there were any extra rooms. There's quite a bit that I uncovered. Also, when I was in the room where Vartugg is located, I was looking through the slits in the wall that act like windows and the one closest to Vartugg on the right I could hear something growling. So there's definitely something there.

Add scout to the rogue core class in character customization. This is a part of the bigger problem. The reason for this is because scout is actually supposed to be a basic skill.
