Does anyone have a clarification on what the new junk feature does? I would infer from the description that it only stores the 18 most valuable duplicate items and writes over items of lesser value. Is that the case?
It's actually one of the better Patch fixes. When you get duplicate items, instead of discarding them like before it keeps them in your "junk" pack for you to sell later in a town. Basically it means more money for you and your friends...or your wife....or whatever bum is trying to hit you up for a little whip. At the very least some of the thieves in town will try to snag some from you! :D

I think what he meant was this example.
Let's say I start a new game and I have 18 specific items that I build up. But for whatever reason I don't sell them. I then go to a new area where the monsters are dropping better stuff. Does the 18th item ie the cheapest actually disappear to make room for the new more expensive item or is there some sort of other logic here.

I think automaticaly the "junk" keeps the more precious/expencive item.

Yeah. That would explain the 17 Goblin Warmasks in my invertory after the Sewers, but before I got in the Theatre. The Masks are 50 gold each, and most everything else in there was cheaper than that.
